Roger William BECK, 60, passed away at Community Hospital on Saturday, May 19, 2001 at 9:33 p.m. Roger was born at home in Clark County, Ohio, (on March 23, 1941), the eldest son of Daniel J. and Alberta E. BECK*, who preceded him in death. He attended Northwestern High School. He was a veteran of United States Army. Survivors: Daughters Karina of Georgia and Sue of Tennessee; three grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter; seven sisters; Thelma and Raymond SCHROTH of Troy, Mary and Albert BOYD, Barbara STAPLETON, Joan MADDY, all of St. Paris, Viola and Melvin HARVEY of New Carlisle, Ellen and Steve CARDOZA of Springfield, Linda PARTHEMORE of Sidney; and three brothers, James BECK, Richard and Linnie BECK, all of Springfield, and Ronald BECK and Shelby BECK of New Carlisle. Marcus Julius (Moon) BITTNER, 83, went into God's caring hands on May 24, 2001. He was born in a house on the North River Road near Clifton, Yellow Springs area and worked for 36 years at Wright Patterson Air Force Base as a Civil Engineer and Maintenance employee. Charter Member of the Clifton Fire Department that was started in 1946. He served as the Fire Chief for several years. He was a Master Sergeant in the Army and veteran of World War II.....Served as Chief of Police from 1952 until 1967. Married for 36 years, three children, daughter and son-in-law, Rosina and James (Pete) KEIHL of Springfield, daughter and son-in-law, Jams and Connie BITTNER of Brown Deer, Wisconsin and daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and Ronald DOBBELS of Woodhull, Illinois. He has two grandsons, three granddaughters; and two great-grandsons. He is also survived by his sister, Ema CAUPP of Clifton and a sister-in-law, Marcella BITTNER of Springfield. He owned and operated Bathroom Magic for 20 years and prior to that time worked at Wright Patterson Air Force Base for 17 years. She was born January 24, 1909 in Clark County, the daughter of Harry E. and Mary A. (GOWER) NICKLIN. She graduated from New Moorefield High School in 1927. After graduation, she worked at the Crowell-Collier Publishing Company until her marriage in 1935. On June 1, 1935, she was united in marriage with Robert MERCER of Springfield, Ohio, in Richmond, Indiana. They were farmers in Clark County, Ohio all of her life, except for a short time in Champaign County, Ohio. She was a homemaker and retired from the Springfield Local School System as Cafeteria Supervisor after many years of service. Amy attended the Sinking Creek Baptist Church and was a member of Green Special Hommakers Club and Farm Bureau. She is survived by one daughter, Norma Carol MERCER, of Springfield, one niece, Rita J. MASON of Dunedin, Florida and several cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband, Rob MERCER. Funeral services at Littleton & Rue Funeral Home, Springfield on Wed. Nancy ARBOGAST FAUST, 88 of Hudson, Michigan, formerly of Springfield, Ohio, died at the Hillsdale County Medical Care Facility in Hillsdale, Michigan on Nov. 4, 2001. The descendent of a pioneer Clark County family, she was born in Springfield on December 8, 1912. Her parents were Clarence and Marie DAVIES ARBOGAST. She attended Ridgewood School, graduated from Springfield (now South) High School, received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Ohio Wesleyan University and a Masters Degree in Education from Ohio State University. She was employed by the Springfield School System for 35 years as an elementary teacher and principal of Jefferson and Simon Kenton School, retiring in 1977. She was a member of Christ Episcopal Church, where she was a Lay Reader and Chalice Bearer. She was also a member of Altrusa Club Clark County and Ohio Retired Teachers Association, Clark County Historical Society, and the Animal Welfare League. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Virginia and Dr. Joseph P. BENDER of Hudson, Michigan; one grandson, Dr. Jeffrey A. BENDER of Tiffin, Ohio; a granddaughter, Michele HOVERMAN (Chris) of Coldwater, Michigan; a great-granddaughter, Katelyn Rose BENDER and some cousins, Geoff and Linda SHARP of Los Altos, Calif. Her body was entrusted to the Woods-Allgier Funeral Home. Page 32. Mary Esther HOKE, 95, of New Carlisle, died Monday, November 5, 2001 at Dayview Care Center in New Carlisle, Ohio. She was born October 29, 1906 in Bethel Township, Clark County, Ohio. She as the first daughter of Harry Bucher HOKE and Ida May WALTER. Mary grew up with her three younger sisters, Frances, Ruth, and Naomi, and one brother, Sam and helped her parents in their business of the New Carlisle Dairy. Mary loved the farm and animals, especially the cows. She milked the cows until she was in her 70's. Mary graduated from New Carlisle High School in 1924, then completed two years at the Springfield Business College where she received special honors for her penmanship. Mary worked for a short time in the offices at theNew Carlisle Sun before beginning studies at Fort Wayne Bible College. She graduated after three years in 1930. During the 1930's through the late 1940's, Mary answered her calling to work as a missionary. She began in Breathet County, Kentucky. She became an approved ministering sister in the Mennonite Brethern in Christ Church. From Kentucky she was asked to pastor churches in Pennsylvania, first at Altoona, later Fairmont and Greenburg. In 1947 Mary was called home to care for her sick mother an then stayed to care for her father until his death in 1969......nine nephewsand nieces, 22 great nieces and nephews........She and her youngest sister, Naomi, lived on the family farm on New Carlisle Medway Road for over 50 years.......Funeral services 11 a.m. Saturday, November 10, 2001 at the New Carlisle Missionary Church......Burial at New Carlisle Cemetery....

She loved her profession of teaching which she did for over 30 years at Enon Elementary School. Hazel was a homemaker most of her life. Survivors include two daughters, Diann Shelton and Linda K. Cernetic. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin in August of 1978. He was born January 1, 1926, in Pike County, the son of Edgar and Minnie (GIFFORD) MCKINLEY. Harold was a member of the Bethel Baptist Church. New Carlisle Pike, where he served as head usher for many years. He retired from Heat Training, Inc. after 22 years of service. Harold served in the United States Arm during the occupation of Japan. He loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Survivors include his wife, Helen A. (CURRENT) MCKINLEY whom he married December 9, 1944; one daughter, Phyllis Kerr and her husband, Billy of Beavercreek, Ohio; one son, Walter H. Mrs. MYSER married Homer Willard MYSER on August 28, 1954 and he preceded her in death on July 9, 1982.
