Bell av. died Saturday at 8:40 p m. at the City Hospital, where he was taken Thursday following a fall at his home in which he suffered a broken hip. Surviving are" his widow, Mrs. Laura FRENCH of Dayton four sons John FRENCH of the "U. S. Army, stationed at Jeffersonville, Ind., and Clyde, Harold and Orville FRENCH, all of Springfield; and four daughters, Mrs. Ethel BOYER of Dayton, and Mrs. Emma MERRIMAN, Mrs. Anna BOOTH and Mrs. Opal RINKER, all of Springfield. The body was removed to the Coffman Funeral Parlor. The obit: FRENCH--Martin L. French. 78, of 120 N. Bell Av., died at the City Hospital Saturday, Nov. 18, 1933. Of a fractured hip suffered in a fall near his home. Funeral services will be held at the Coffman Funeral home at 2 p m. Tuesday. In charge of the Rev. F. L. Blevins of the Church of God on Hillside Av., Burial will be made in the Fletcher Chapel Cemetery.

WHITTINGTON Killed-Third Man Severely Injured in Crash. ...Those killed were: Joseph N. WHITTINGTON, 63, of 1145 Oak St., Springfield, a U.S. mail carrier,...Whittington was fatally injured Friday at 3 p.m. while his was carrying his route when he was struck by an automobile driven by William A. DeMint of Detroit, Mich. The accident occurred on E. Main St. just east of Roseland Av. WHITTINGTON died at the Springfield City Hospital at 11:15 p.m. Friday..... An investigation of the death of Mr. WHITTINGTON is being made by Coroner Austin Richards. WHITTINGTON sustained a fractured skull, severe head lacerations, a compound fracture of the left leg, possible fracture of the right leg, and severe body bruises. Several hours after the accident an operation was performed in an effort to save his life. DeMint, who was enroute to Dayton, reported the accident to Springfield police. He said that he was driving west on Main St. when he saw the pedestrian step into the street from the north side of Main street and into the path of his car. The driver said he sound the horn of his automobile and swerved the car in an unsuccessful attempt to Miss WHITTINGTON. DeMint said he was driving about 30 miles and hour at the time, according to police. After making the statement to police, DeMint was released, but remained in the city while the police investigated the accident and submitted their report to Coroner Richards. Mr. Whittington had been an employee of the government since 1910. He was a member of the Second Lutheran Church and Springfield Council, No. 240, Junior Order United American Mechanics. His widow, Sarah Catherine WHITTINGTON; one son, Roger; ; and a step-son, Seemer BYERMAN, of Springfield; and two grandchildren survive. Funeral Services will be held at the residence at 2 p.m. Monday in charge of the Rev. Dr. Carl A. Sundberg, pastor of the Second Lutheran Church. Burial will be made in Ferncliff Cemetery.

Born in North Hampton, Mr. Argabright had lived in Clark County all his life, and for the last 40 years had resided on his farm on the Miller Rd. His widow, Mrs. Jennie (should be Effie) Argabright; a son, C. A. Argabright, and one daughter, Miss Glenna M. Argabright, survive. The body was removed to the Jackson funeral home, where funeral services will be conducted at 10:a.m. Wednesday. Burial will be made in Vale Cemetery.

Funeral services for Mrs. Caroline FISCHER, 79, who died Monday at her home, 1129 West Jefferson Street, following an illness of more than two years, will be held Wednesday at 8:30 a.m. at the St. Mary Church. Burial will be made in the St. Bernard Cemetery. Mrs. FISCHER was born in Springfield, and had lived here all her life. She was a member of the St. Mary Church. Four sons, Frederick FISCHER, Leo FISCHER, Nicolas FISCHER and William FISCHER; two daughters, Mrs. Louis FRANKLIN and Mrs. George KRIEGBAUM, all of Springfield, and a sister, Mrs. Mary SPANGENBERGER, of Springfield, survive. Following a three-day illness of pneumonia, Eugene Walker Polk, 57, died at 2 a.m. Thursday at his home, 1 Rose alley. His widow, Mrs. Virginia Polk; two daughters, Mrs. Emma Sproler and Miss Eugenia Polk, both of Chicago, Ill.; and three grandchildren survive. The body was removed to the Patterson funeral home.

Joyce Hornberger, three-year-old daughter of Mrs. And Mrs. Henry Hornberger of 1700 Woodward av., died at 12:05 p.m. at the home of her parents following an illness of four days with intestinal influenza. Surviving are her parents and one sister, Jean. Funeral services will be held Sunday at 1 p.m. at the residence. Burial will be made in the Grape Grove cemetery near Jamestown.

Henry Sandmann, 61, a retired Indianapolis, Ind., policeman, died at 6 p.m. Thursday at the home of his son, Willoughby Sandmann of 352 Stanton av. Mr. Sandmann had made his home with his son in this city for the last six weeks. He was a member of an Indianapolis Catholic Church. Besides the son at whose home he died, his widow, Mrs. Bertha Sandmann of Indianapolis; two sisters, Mrs. Lena Wright and Mrs. Jennie Wright, both of Indianapolis, and a granddaughter, Helen Van Cleave, of Indianapolis, survive. The body was removed to the Jackson funeral home, and will be sent to Indianapolis Friday for funeral services and burial.

Mrs. Sarah Ellen DAVIS, 83, died at 5 a.m. Friday at the home of her son, Elmer DAVIS, in Dialton, following a stroke of paralysis which she suffered two weeks ago. She was a life-long resident of Dialton and had been an active member of the Dialton Reformed Church. Her husband, Edmond, died seven years ago. Besides the son at whose home she died, Mrs. DAVIS is survived by two other sons and one daughter, Oran and Evan, of Dialton, and Mrs. Pearl HARTMAN, of Tulsa Okla. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Dialton Reformed Church by the pastor, the Rev. O. E. Koepp. Burial will be made in the Tremond City Cemetery.

Death claimed Mrs. Mary Alice O'CONNOR at 4 a.m. Sunday at her home, 310 W. Euclid av. Born in County Cavan, Ireland, Mrs. O'CONNOR came to America when she was 16 years old, settled in Springfield and has lived here since that time. Her husband, Michael O'CONNOR, Springfield; two sons, the Rev. Fr. John O'CONNOR, a priest in St. Anthony Catholic Church, Dayton, O., and Raymond O'CONNOR, Springfield, and one brother, Owen GRAHAM, Chicago, survive. Mrs. O'CONNOR was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church and a member of the Married Ladies Sodality of that congregation. Funeral services will take place in St. Joseph Church Wednesday at 10 a.m. with burial being made in Calvary Cemetery. Members of the Sacred Heart Sodality of the St. Joseph Church will meet at the residence at 8 p.m. Tuesday.

Ex-Resident Dies Dies -- Joseph Stevens, 73, a former resident of Springfield, died Friday morning at the home of his son, Herbert H. Stevens, in Minneapolis, Minn. He was the husband of Mrs. Ellen Stevens, who dies two years ago. Since that time Mr. Stevens had been making his home with his son. He leaves another son, Clarence Winchell, of Oak Park, Ill. During his residence in Springfield he was a member of the Church of the Heavenly Rest, Episcopal and of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows Lodge. The body will be brought to this city Saturday evening and taken to the Coffman Funeral Home.

Henry C. SIPE, 80 died at his home near Christiansburg, Ohio at 3:45 p.m. Wednesday, after an illness of two years. He had been seriously ill the last four days. Mr. SIPE was the son of Martin and Lydia SIPE. He was born at York Pa., October 19, 1853. He came to Ohio in 1876, and was married December 23, 187, to Mary Catherine SHROYER, who survives him. To this union eight children were born, Alfred D., of near Casstown, O.; Mrs. Grace NELSON of Kansas City, Kan.; Pearl M., of near Cedarville, O.; Ross R., of near Springfield.; and Raymond L., at home. One daughter, Mrs. Bertha SMITH, and two infant sons preceded him in death. He also leaves nine grandchildren and three great grandchildren. He was a blacksmith by trade, and for many years resided at Anlo, Clark County, Ohio. In August 1906 he with his family moved to North Dakota, where he resided 11 years. Upon returning to Ohio, he lived in and near Springfield until March, 1933, when he moved wife and son Raymond L., to a farm near Christiansburg, O. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at the Doom Funeral Parlors, in New Carlisle, O., with the Revs. I. B Shoup and Harrison Franz, both of North Hampton, officiating. Burial will be made in New Carlisle Cemetery.

Don Henry WILDS, 35, of Spring-field, died in a Lansing, Mich. hos-pital Thursday of injuries sustained Wednesday afternoon in a truck ac-cident, according to news dispatches received in this city. WILDS is reported to have been trave1ing with a show when a trailer on which he and a companion were riding broke loose from a truck and crashed into a ditch. The companion, Robert ECKLAND of New York, was also injured. C. M. Patterson and Son, local funeral directors, will return the body to this city for funeral services and burial.

Pg. 6. Asa B. RICE, 39, of 713 E. North-ern av., died at 4 p. m. Thursday at the City Hospital, where he had been a patient since April 25. He underwent an operation at the hospital after being admitted. RICE was a veteran of the World War, and saw service with the U. S. Navy. Born in Springfield, he had lived in Co1umbus most of his life, returning to Springfield two and a half years ago to make his home. He was a member of the Westgate lodge, Free and Accepted Masons of Columbus, and of the United Breth-ren Church of that city. His widow, Louise; two daughters, Irene and Dorothy; a son, Edward; two brothers, Leon RICE, of Sioux City Ia., and Charles RICE of Columbus; and two sisters, Emma and Josephine RICE of Columbus, sur-vive. Short funeral services will be held at the residence at 12:30 p. m., Sat-urday. Further services will be held at 2:30 p. m. at the Burgess Avenue United Brethren Church in Colum-bus. Urbana. May 26. - Harry C. RICE, 67, native of Springfield, and well known Urbana business man, died this afternoon at his home on N. Main st., following a stroke of paralysis suffered Thursday. Mr. RICE was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Clay RICE, well known Springfield residents of the past generation. He had lived in Urbana for 24 years, conducting a business of manufacturing cigars. His widow, Elizabeth, and three children, Earl R. RICE, Albany, N.Y.; Mae FORMAN, Urbana, and Leo RICE, deputy Champaign County treasurer, survive. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the residence, with Rev. Samuel Furrow, pastor of the First Baptist Church, in charge. Burial will be made in Ferncliff Cemetery at Springfield.

Carl FULLER, 26, a lifelong resident of North Hampton, died Saturday at 5 p.m. in the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J.C FULLER, North Hampton. He died after an illness of one week. Born and reared in North Hampton, FULLER is survived by his parents, three sisters, Helen, Marietta and Ruth FULLER, and five brothers, Estol, Glenn, Robert, Richard and J. C. FULLER, Jr. Funeral services will be held at the residence Monday at 2:30 p.m. with burial in the Lawrenceville Cemetery.

LUSK, PARNELL, RICHARDS, STJOHN Name of Newspaper is Daily News, Springfield, OH on Tuesday, May 29, 1934

Instantly killed in a freak accident when an automobile he was repairing slipped from a jack and fell on his head, the body of Elmer STJOHN, 40, rear of 22 N. William st., was pinned to the floor of his garage in the rear of the address for over five hours before being discovered at 6:45 p.m. Monday. The accident may also prove fatal to the victim's mother, Mrs. Maggie ST JOHN, 65. The mother, who returned home from the City Hospital May 23 after a period of illness, suffered a relapse after learning of her son's death and had to be returned to the hospital. Her condition was reported to be fair late Monday. ST. JOHN was found at 6:45 p.m. by Byran LUSK of 1422 W. Main St., who went to the garage to close the doors so that a group of boys could use a hoop nailed to one of the doors for a basketball game. He called the police. Police, reconstructing the accident with Coroner Austin RICHARDS who also made an investigation, said the victim had been lying on his side at the rear of the automobile, using a jack to hoist the left rear part of the car. There was no left wheel on the machine. It is believed that the machine slipped off the jack without giving ST. JOHN a chance to move. A portion of a clip fastening the left rear spring pierced his temple, fracturing his skull. Police and bystanders moved the machine from the body. Coroner RICHARDS said the man had apparently died instantly, and had been dead about five hours when discovered. LUSK told police he saw ST. JOHN alive at noon Monday. Besides his mother, a sister Hazel PARNELL of Spring Valley survives the victim. The body was removed to the Jackson funeral home.

Mrs. Anna JUNG, 69, of 2532 E. High Street, died at her home at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday following an illness of several weeks. Mrs. JUNG was born in Germany, and had lived in Springfield for many years. Her husband, John JUNG, died several weeks ago. Three daughters, Mrs. Edward MONAGHAN, Mrs. George SCHAFER and Mrs. Edward DERRY, all of Springfield; three sons, John, Albert and Alphonese JUNG; 14 grandchildren; and one sister, Mrs. Mary BURKHARDT of this city survive. The body was removed to Degenhart's Funeral Home and will be taken to the residence of her daughter, Mrs. MONAGHAN, 121 N. Bellaire Avenue, at 6 p.m. Wednesday. Funeral services will be conducted at 9 a.m. Friday at the St. Bernard Church, with burial in St. Bernard Cemetery.

He is survived by his parents, one sister, Eloise; two brothers, Marcus Jr. and Paul; and a grandfather, Joseph MYERS, of Lawrence County, [Ohio]. Page 14. Lewis J. LAYBOURNE, 90, a lifelong resident of Clark County, died Thursday at 7 a.m. at the home of his daughter, Mrs. F. C. SHAW, Springfield, Route 5, southeast of this city. His death was due to advanced age. Mr. LAYBOURNE was born in Green Township, where he spent the early years of this life. During the Civil War, he served in both the Army and Navy, and after the war, returned to this county, where his activities were confined to farming. His wife, the former Miss Jennie BIRD, preceded him in death in 1884. Surviving are the daughter with whom he resided, and three grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at the residence Saturday at 10:30 a.m. in charge of the Rev. E. N. Long, of Delaware, O. Burial will be made in the Fletcher Chapel Cemetery.
