Page 8. Mrs. Eva L. PENETON, 81, died at 7 p.m. Sunday in the home of her son Virgil W. PENETON of Tremont City, with whom she had lived for several years. Mrs. PENETON was the oldest member of the Tremont City Methodist Church. She was the daughter of Amos and Elizabeth BOTKIN, pioneers in the Tremont City vicinity, and was born Aug. 20, 1862. She was the widow of Forest E., who died in 1927. She had been in failing health for 13 years, an was seriously ill for two days. Surviving are four sons, Virgil W. of Tremont City, Orval F. of Route 3 and Raymond A. of Route 1, Springfield, and Howard T. of McComb; three sisters, Mrs. John L. PENCE of New Carlisle, Mrs. Samuel J. NEFF of Route 2, Urbana, and Mrs. Frank M. CALDWELL, Dialton; two brothers, L. K. BOTKIN of North Hampton and J. G. BOTKIN of Urbana; 12 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. The body was removed to the Jackson-Lytle funeral home and will be returned to the residence in Tremont City Monday evening. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Tremont City Methodist Church conducted by Rev. W. H. Fields, pastor of Story-Hypes Methodist Church, Springfield. Burial will follow in Mt. CAMPBELL, 82, a native of County Mayo, Westford, Ireland, but a resident of Springfield since she was five years old, died in her home, Route 1, Sugar Grove Hill, at 9:30 p.m. Saturday. She was a member of St. Mary's Church; St. Ann and St. Rose Sodality; and the St. Mary Alter Society. Mrs. Campbell was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James O'BRIEN, also natives of Ireland, but residents of Clark County for many years. Her husband, John CAMPBELL died six years ago. Surviving are two daughters, Helen and Margaret of Springfield; four sons, James of Fort Bragg, Calif., and John, Thomas, and Joseph, of Springfield; one sister, Mrs. Margaret STEWARD, Springfield; and ten grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 9 a.m. Wednesday in St. Mary's Church with burial in Calvary Cemetery. Rosary services will be held at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in the residence. She is survived by her daughter, Mrs Glendon MICHAEL, of Springfield; and four* sons, Perce, Craig and Willard EUBANKS of North Hampton; 11 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Burial was in the Lagonda av Cemetery. Mr DOYLE, active in Democratic political circles in Springfield for many years, served at one time as a ward councilman. He was a native and lifelong resident of this city. Prior to his retirement several years ago, he was owner of the Doyle Monument Works at Spring and Main sts.

Mrs. RAWSON was born Nov. 21, 1853, in Fairview, Pa., and had resided in Elyria, previous to entering the Masonic Home April 18, 1937. She was sponsored by King Solomon Lodge No. 56 F. & A. M., of Elyria. The body was removed to Littleton funeral home, and will sent to Elyria for services and burial.

Mrs. Roy GAYNOR, 40, who was born in Enon, Sept. 21, 1903, died in the Clark County Sanatorium at 9 p.m. Friday following several years of illness. She was the daughter of William and Jennie Murphy MITMAN and had resided in Clark County almost her entire life. She was a graduate of Springfield City Hospital's Nurses Training School. Mrs. GAYNOR is survived by her husband, one son, Roger, and one daughter, Patricia all of Memphis, Tenn; four sisters, Mrs. Lucy TAYLOR, Mrs. Mary SMITH and Mrs. Nina PENNINGTON of Springfield, Mrs. Elizabeth ARK of Donnelsville; and by six brothers, Perry, Rueben, and Dolph of Enon, John and Ernest of the U. S. Army, and Harold. The body was removed to the Richards Memorial Home, where services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday. Burial will be in Enon Cemetery.

During this time, he was employed as a stationary engineer in the Clark County Children's Home. He was a member of the Asbury Methodist Church, near Catawba. Besides his widow, Etta, he is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Valorous PERRY; one foster son, Earl PATTON; one brother John C., supervisor of factory and building inspectors with the Department of Industrial Relations of Ohio, all of Springfield; two sisters, Mrs. Lillie COLLINS, Mechanicsburg; Mrs. Lulu POWELL, Columbus; three grandsons, Corp. Vaughn SANDY, Camp McCall, N.C.; Corp. Kenneth PERRY, with the U. S. Armed Forces in Italy; Pfc. J. Earl PATTON, Jr., Buckley Field, Colo.; and three great-grandchildren. Her husband, Leminson, died 17 years ago. Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. SHEELEY of Cleveland, O., Mrs. Fanny PALMER of Chauncey, O., Mrs. Emma MENDENHALL and Mrs. PARISH, of Springfield; seven sons, Isaac of Bristol, Ind., Frank of Cincinnati, John of Spokane, Wash., William of New York, Benjamin and Earl of Detroit, Mich., grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Miss SONBERGER was born in Springfield, Ohio, April 29, 1922, but had made her home with her aunt, Mrs. Edith AMES, 423 Adams Street. The body was brought to the Gerner & Wolf funeral home, Washington Street, where funeral services were held yesterday afternoon at 1:30 with the Rev. Russell Linton officiating. Burial was made in Union cemetery, Elmore, Ohio. The deceased is survived by her father; one sister Virginia, and her aunt, Mrs. Edith AMES.

Born in Plattsville, O, Oct. 19, 1864, Mr. BOTKIN had been a retired farmer for the last 18 years. He had been in failing health for more than four years but had been seriously ill only two weeks. Mr. BOTKIN had been affectionately known as "Doc" all his life. He was a member of the Asbury Methodist Church at North Hampton, and a member of the White Star Lodge, No. 292, Knights of Pythias. He is survived by his widow, Sally A,; two daughters, Mrs. Thurman HECK of New Carlisle, and Mrs. Alva HOPKINS of Oak Park, Ill. Five sons also survive, Ralph of Wooster, O; Paul of St. Paris O; Homer, East Liberty, O; Wendell of Columbus, and Elden of Medway, O. Three sisters are also among the survivors, Mrs. J. L. PENCE of New Carlisle; Mrs. S. J. NEFF, Urbana, and Mrs. F. M. CALDWELL of Springfield. A brother, J. G. BOTKIN of Urbana survives along with 19 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. The body was removed to Jackson-Lytle funeral home. It will be returned to the residence Friday evening. Sunday, from 1 p,m. to 2:30 p.m., it will lie in state in the Asbury Methodist Church. Funeral services will follow. The Rev. Charles E. Cramer, pastor of the church will officiate, assisted by Rev. James F. Walston. Burial will be in Newson Chapel Cemetery. Page 1 & 2. Another Springfield Soldier, Staff Sergt. Harry E. BYERMAN, has given his life for his country, it was disclosed Thursday night. Sergt. BYERMAN, previously reported as missing in action, was killed December 1, according to word received by his wife, Mrs. Harriet F. BYERMAN of 460 Selma rd. Notification of his disappearance reached Mrs. Byerman on Dec. 13, and notification of his death came in a telegram dated Jan 5. The subsequent letter from the Adjutant General, dated Jan. 11, read in part: "Information has now been received from the German government through the International Red Cross stating that he was killed in action on Dec. 1, 1943. This would indicate that he was killed in action on the date he was previously reported missing in action, and it has been so recorded on the records of the War Department."I realize the burden of anxiety that has been yours since he was reported missing in action and deeply regret the sorrow this message brings you. May the knowledge that he made the supreme sacrifice for his home and country be a source of sustaining comfort for you." Sergt. BYERMAN was trained at the Las Vegas, Nev. Gunnery School, and had been overseas since June 1, where he served with the Eighth Air Force as a tail gunner on a Liberator bomber. He attended Springfield High School and was formerly employed by Robbins and Myers, Inc. He is survived by his widow; his parents, Mr. & Mrs. Harry BYERMAN, Sr. of 1516 N. Belmont Av.; a nine month old son, Jack; a three year old daughter, Judy, a brother, Russell of Camp Haan, Calif.; and two sisters, Verna Mae BYERMAN and Mrs. Martha MOSHIER, both of Springfield.

James G. CALLISON age 43, a resident of Terre Haute about 24 years died at 7 AM Friday at Mercy Hospital, Springfield. Mr CALLISONwas born 3-3-1916, son of Andrew and Alice Hubbard CALLISON. He was a member of the Terre Haute Methodist Church and a former employee of International Harvester Company in Springfield. He had been employed by Dingledine Trucking of Terre Haute for 10 years. Survivors include his widow Esther and three daughters: Mrs. Sandra MASSIE of St. Paris, Miss Sue Ellen CALLISON and Miss Elizabeth Ann CALLISON both at home. He is also survived by four sons: Jerry L., Steven D. and Rodney D all at home and James D. of Urbana. Other survivors are his mother, Mrs Alice (CALLISON) HARDMAN of Springfield, two sisters, Mrs. Mable CLINGAN of Tipp City and Mrs. Gladys LEONARD of Sharon, Pa and two brothers Clarence E. of Springfield and William E. of Springfield RT 2 and three grandchildren. His body will be taken to Don A. Neff funeral home in Urbana where friends my call until noon Monday when the body will be taken to Terre Haute Methodist church to lie in state until time for the service at 2 PM Monday. Henry Schell formerly of Springfield and a graduate of Wittenberg College, died in his home in Newark, NJ on January 21. Mr Schell, who was born in Springfield, was preceded in death by his wife, Nora, who died in Newark on August 9. Mrs Schell was the niece of Mrs J.C. MECHLIN of 18 W Clark St and had been born and raised in Springfield. Services for both Mr and Mrs Schell were held in Newark. Their ashes will be shipped back to Springfield for burial in Ferncliff Cemetery.

Ella L. GEIGER Taken By Death Long Illness Fatal To Former Teacher At Age 79 Miss Ella L. GEIGER, 79, a teacher in the Springfield public schools for 25 years, died at 7 a.m. Monday after a lingering illness in her home, 469 Woodlawn av., where she was born and had lived the greater part of her life. Born Nov 3, 1864, the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. H.R. GEIGER, she had resided most of her life in Springfield. She was educated at Wittenberg College, where her father was then professor of science, and graduated in the class of 1886. Miss GEIGER began her life work as a teacher in Buena Vista Seminary, Luray, Va., where she taught Latin for several years. She then returned to Springfield and was affiliated with the public schools here for the next 25 years, interruped only by a year's absence in 1910 when she continued her study of Latin at Columbia University. In 1927 she was able to continue her studies in Europe. She was a life-long member of the First Lutheran Church, and was a member of The American Association of University Women, The Gardner Chautauqua, The Woman's missionary Society of the Unite Lutheran Church of America, and the Y.W.C.A. Surviving are one brother, Judge Frank W. GEIGER, of this city, and several nieces and nephews. Another sister, Alice died in 1942. Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Wednesday in the residence, and will be in charge of the Rev. John W. Rilling, pastor of the First Lutheran Church. Burial will be in Ferncliff Cemetery. Friends are asked to omit flowers.

SCOTT was a member of Lagonda United Brethren Church. Surviving in addition to his wid-ow, Margaret V.; are one son, H. F. SCOTT, Warsaw, Ind.; four daughters, Mrs. D. W. MCARTHUR, Tulsa, Okla., Mrs. J. B. GOODLETT, Toccoa, Ga.; Mrs. Darrell NEEDLES and Mrs. James G. MEYERS, both of Springfield; one sister, Mrs. Flossie WALTON, also of Springfield, and a brother, Thomas, of Lakeworth, Fla. He was the grandfather of six children. The body was re-moved to Jackson-Lytle funeral.

Funeral services for Miss Margaret A LONEY, 79, who died at 7:30 pm Sunday in her home, 1814 Longview Dr, will be conducted at 9 am Wednesday in St Teresa Church. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. The body was taken to the O'Brien Funeral Home where it will remain until time for the services and where it may be viewed from Monday evening until time for the services. Miss LONEY, who had been ill about two weeks, was a life long resident of Springfield. She was a member of St Teresa Church. Her brother, the Rev. Father Michael J. LONEY, who served for 31 years as pastor of St Joseph Church, succumbed in 1935. Miss LONEY is survived by two nephews and one niece.

She was a member of the First Lutheran Church, a member of Neal Chapter, O.E.S. and was affiliated with Manito Shrine, No 27, White Shrine of Jerusalem. Survivors are her husband, Albert GELSENLITER; one daughter, Mrs Earl L. CRIST of Springfield, and two grandsons, Richard and Robert CRIST of this city. The body was removed to the Littleton Funeral Home where it will remain for services at 2 pm Wednesday. Burial will be in Ferncliff Cemetery.

Euclid Ave., following a three month illness. Mr. STEWART was born in Concordia, Ky, on Oct. 25, 1871, and resided in Springfield 23 years. He was employed by the Montgomery Ward Co. here until he became ill. Surviving Mr. STEWART besides his daughter, are: one son, GUTHRIE of Oakland, Calif., one sister, Mrs. E. M. CLAYTON of Buffalo, Okla., and four grandchildren. The body was removed to the Richards Memorial Home where services will be held at 10:00am, Monday by the Rev. He is survived by three sons, Robert, Frank, and Peter R., Jr. all of Springfield, and three daughters, Miss Mary GARRITY, Mrs. William H. COLLINS, and Mrs. Matthew SHERIDAN, also of Springfield, five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. The body was removed to the O'Brien funeral home but will be returned to the residence Sunday to lie in state until time for services at St. Raphael Church, Tuesday at 9 a.m. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.

He is survived by his wife, Nora; three sons, Thomas H., Paul and Joseph, all of Springfield; one brother, John of Iowa City, Iowa; and three sisters, Mrs. Margaret SLATTERY of Columbus, Mrs. Mary SLATTERY of London, and Mrs. Catherine CONWAY of West Jefferson. Griffith BEVAN, 68, of Youngstown, died at 9:20 a.m. Wednesday in the Springfield City Hospital, following a three-day serious illness. Having been in ill health for several months, he was admitted to the hospital Saturday, and underwent an operation Monday. Born in Wales, July 14, 1875, Mr. BEVAN had lived in Youngstown for a number of years where he was a member of the Congregational Christian Church and the Bricklayers' Union. He came to Springfield a week ago to visit his daughter, Mrs. O. W. PRICE, 903 E. High st. Besides the one daughter, he is survived by a son, Haydn, of Battlecreek, Mich. The body was removed to the Richards Memorial Home and will be sent to Youngstown Thursday morning for services and burial.

He ahd lived in Springfield for the past 30 years where he was a member of Grace Methodist Church and was formerly employed as a sawfiler by the Oliver Farm Equipment Co. Mr. MICHAEL is survived by his widow, Lulu V.; two daughters, Mrs. Bernice BLEW and Mrs. Goldie KOOGLER of Springfield; two sons, Edward Owen and Losee L. or Springfield; two brothers J. C. MICHAEL of Lakeworth, Fla., and Leslie MICHAEL of Bowersville; one sister, Mr.s Rachel SHEPHERD of Kelso, Wash.; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Mrs. Mary Belle (RICE) MCDONALD, 88 of 1203 Linden av., died in her home at 5:30 p.m. Monday where she had been in failing health for several years and critically ill seven weeks. She was born in Springfield on Feb. 27, 1856, the daughter of Alonzo and Mary AULT RICE, who were among the pioneer settlers of Clark County and for whom RICE st. in Springfield in named. Mrs. MCDONALD had spent her entire life in Springfield except for 19 years when she lived in St. Marys. She was the widow of Wesley MCDONALD who died in Springfield in 1925. Two sons also preceded her in death. Mrs MCDONALD was a member of the First Baptist Church. She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Arthur FOLEY of Springfield; one step-daughter, Mrs. Bertha FOLEY of Canon City, Colo.; two granddaughters and one great grand-daughter.

Raymond MURPHY, 36, retired farmer, died at 4:25 p.m. Monday in the City Hospital where he had been taken Monday morning for treatment. Having been forced to quit his occupation last September because of ill health, Murphy had moved to Springfield on April 29 to make his home with his sister, Mrs. Lena SWAYNE of 1544 N. Belmont av. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles of Wilmington, his former place of residence and the Second Church of God of Springfield. Mr. MURPHY is survived by his widow, Martha; a daughter, Dorothy; two sons, Roger and Robert; his mother, Mrs. Iona MURPHY, all of Springfield; three sisters, Mrs. Opal KELLER of Tucson, Ariz, Mrs. SWAYNE, and Mrs. Lucille MAHONEY, both of Springfield; and a brother, Vernon of Springfield, Route 1. Mr. LUECK was a member of St. john's Evangelical and Reformed Church, Champion Aerie No. 397, F.O.E., and was employed by the Champion Co. Survivors include his widow, Vera M., and a brother, Walter, both of Springfield. The body was removed to the Littleton funeral home and will be returned to the residence Saturday afternoon.

Joseph J. PERRY, 64, of 149 Fostoria ave., a Springfield resident for about 50 years, died at 10 a.m. Monday at the City Hospital after a brief illness. Mr. PERRY was born in Ireland, the son of Michael and Eliza PERRY. He was a member of St. Raphael Church and of the Holy Name Society. Mr. PERRY was a former foreman for the Home Telephone Co. and for the past 25 years was a telephone and telegraph signalman for the D. T. and I. Railroad. Besides his widow, Katherine, Mr. PERRY's survivors are a daughter, Louise, at home, and a brother, James, of Springfield. The body was removed to the O'Brien Funeral Home and will be returned to the residence later.

William A. CULTICE, 74, died at 11 p.m., Wednesday, in his home in Terre Haute, following a two-year illness. Mr. CULTICE was the father of George A. CULTICE, first Clark Countian killed in World War One and for whom Cultice-Ward Post No.l 6, American Legion was originally named. He is survived by two sons, Noah and Courtney, and a daughter, Mrs. Bertha OGDEN, all of Route 5, two brothers, Fred of Clark County and Homer of Greene County; three sisters, Mrs. Ethel HOLL, Mrs. Myrtle HATTON and Mrs. Effie POWELL, all of South Charleston. The body was removed to the Littleton funeral home.
