She was a member of St. Teresa Catholic Church, Catholic Ladies of Columbia number 207, Altar Rosary, Sodality and volunteered at St. Vincent DePaul Thrift Store. Survivors include her husband of 49 years, Eugene H.; five children and spouses, Anne M. and James BROOKS of Dayton, Martin E. BELT of Moberly, Missouri, Philip A. and Diane BELT of Dover, Delaware, Gregory A. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1955 to 1959. On Nov. 20, 1982, he married Toni STRAWSER at White Pigeon United Methodist Church. He was employed four years at RC Cola in Sturgis. After retiring from White Pigeon Schools on July 11, 1996, he delivered papers for the Sturgis Journal. A member of the White Pigeon United Methodist Church, he also was a member of the White Pigeon Men's Bowling Association, the Tuesday Night Golf League, and participated in adult softball and served as a Little League coach. Robert F. �BOB� HIGGINS, 82, of Oak Run Township near London, died Saturday, May 2, 1998 at 4:47 p.m. in Madison County Hospital, after a long battle with cancer. He was born March 9, 1916 in Madison County. He was the son of Daniel F. and Catherine F. (CONNOR) HIGGINS. He was a retired lifetime farmer. He was a member of Saint Patrick Catholic Church, London, the Knights of Columbus, Father Reidy Council number 1786, and was also a member of the Madison County Farm Bureau. He is survived by sisters, Catherine HIGGINS at home, Mary M. CHARTERS and Ruth (DAN) LACEY of Springfield; brothers, James Richard (Mary Ellen) HIGGINS of London and William HIGGINS at home; 21 nieces and nephews; and 38 great-nieces and great-nephews. He ws preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, John in 1963, Paul in 1993, and infant Daniel in 1921. The family invites friends to call at the Rader-Lynch and Dodds Funeral Homes, London on Tuesday 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. with the rosary to be recited at 7:45 p.m. Funeral mass will be celebrated Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Saint Patrick Catholic Church in London with Father Donald Maroon and Father Romano Ciotola officiating. She was born January 23, 1911 in Fayette County, the daugher of Charles Herbert JUDY and Grace Fern (MARTIN) JUDY. In 1937, she married Fred W. KALBFUS who preceded her in death in 1983. A graduate of the Springfield business College, Garnet was employed by Chakeres Theaters, and later by Edward J. Wren Department Store as Supervisor of Accounts Payable, and then as Buyer of Women�s and Misses� dresses. She was a member of the Woman�s Town Club, the Springfield Club, and the High Street United Methodist Church. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Warren WALDREN of Sommerville; five grandchildren, Bonnie (ANGUS) SULLIVAN, Grace (ANGUS) HASSETT, Stephen F. ROBBINS, Phillip N. ANGUS, and Jennifer Jane ROBBINS; a sister-in-law, Helen LEWIS KALBFUS; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brother, Virgil JUDY; and daughter, Nancy Jane ROBBINS. He was born February 19, 1930 in Springfield, the son of Anthony and Lara F. (CARR) WOODS St. He was retired from DESCI and had operated an accounting office here in Springfield. He was a member of the Zion Hill Baptist Church and was a veteran of the United States Armed Forces, having served in the Army. He was past president of the Frontiers and was a member of the American Legion and the Papa's Club. Mr. WOODS is survived by his loving family including his devoted wife of 37 years, Alice L. (SPARKS) WOODS; three daughters, Anita L. (Fred) GILKEY of Riverside, Ohio, Patricia L. (Larry) ROUSE of Danville, Illinois and Diane M. (Hiram) JOHNSON of Springfield; one sister, Geneva (Earl) HARDING; one brother, Melvin WOODS, both of Springfield; one aunt, Margie WOODS of Springfield; 13 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Rose BRIM and Catherine WOODS; and one brother, Harold WOODS. Thomas E. GRIFFITH, 84 formerly residing with his daughter at 1024 Villa Road and recently of the Oho Pythian Home, died Thursday, June 4, 1998 following an extended illness. He was born May 22, 1914 in Springfield, the son of Brady L. and Esther (DELONG) GRIFFITH. Mr. GRIFFITH served in the navy and then the Army during World War II, retired from the Clark County Commission Maintenance Department with 38 years of service, worked as a Special Deputy with the Sheriff's Department for a number of years and was a life member of the Enon Post Veterans of Foreign Wars. He is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Lavina and Mark CHURCH of Springfield and Rosalyn NIGER of St. Louis, Missouri; one brother, Brady L. GRIFFITH of Minneapolis, Minnesota; two grandchildren, Anthony Scott BYERMAN of Springfield, Thomas Frederick BYERMAN, Jr. of Indianapolis, Indiana; two step-grandchildren, Rebecca and Jeremy CHURCH of Springfield; several great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel L. GRIFFITH; and sister, Viola STEELE. Mr. GRIFFITH was a good-hearted and loving father and grandfather known for his "orneryness," and liked by all who knew him. He will be greatly missed by his dog "Paws: and cat "snowball." V. Ruth (DIXON) WILLIAMS 56, of Springfield, went to be with Jesus on Thursday, June 4, 1998 in her residence. She was born December 13, 1941 in Pike County, Ohio, the daughter of Clyde and Gracie (GRAGG) DIXON. She was a 1959 graduate of Shawnee High School. She worked closely with her husband, B. Jack WILLIAMS, as proprietors of funeral homes in the communities of Cedarville, South Charleston, Springfield and Yellow Springs. She was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene, the Bible teacher and leader of The Ladies Koffee Kup Bible study which was held in her home on a weekly basis. She was currently attending the Central Church of the Nazarene where she was serving as the church pianist and was active in the church choir. Ruth wrote a song entitle "Victory" about how God got her through her battle with cancer and how He held her up as she claimed her victory through Christ. She was a devoted wife, mother, daughter, grandmother and a loving sister. She was a friend to everyone, a counselor to the hurting, a giver of hugs and kisses, a lender of smiles and an encourager. She is survived by her loving and faithful husband of 34 years, B Jack WILLIAMS, whom she married November 9, 1963; three daughters, Sherri (Mark) MORGAN of Springfield, Renee (Greg) BURTON of South Charleston and Tara (Tim Carnes) WILLIAMS of Yellow Springs; three granddaughters, Sarah Anne, Katie Lynn, Erica Danielle MORGAN; a grandson, Mitchell David BURTON; and an expected granddaughter in August, Hannah Ruth; her mother, Gracie Belle DIXON; her father and mother-in-law, Bradie and Bettie WILLIAMS: a brother, Melvin (Ruth) DIXON; four sisters, hazel and Mary DIXON, Linda (Tom) MIDKIFF, all of Springfield and her twin sister, Thelma (R.W.) WILLIAMS of Bethlehem, Georgia; a brother-in-law, Bradie Lee (Marilyn) WILLIAMS of Arlington, Texas; several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and a great host of friends. She was preceded in death by her father, Clyde Merritt DIXON in March 1969; and an infant brother, Paul Eugene.
