Page 18. Orrin H. ZIEGLER, Lifelong Resident of Clark County, Succumbs. Following an illness of two weeks with influenza, Orrin H. ZIEGLER, 45, a lifelong resident of Clark County; died at 1 p. m. Wednesday at the home on the National pike west. Mr. ZIEGLER was employed as chief engineer at The American Seeding Machine Co. plant at the time of his death. He had held that position for more than five years. Prior to that he was employed in the same capacity by The Ohio Edison Co., The Springfield Metallic Casket Co., and the Springfield Railway Co. Born in Springfield, Mr. ZIEGLER had spent practically his entire life here. He was a member of the Church of the Brethren at Shaffer and Columbia sts. Surviving him are his widow, Mrs. Edith ZIEGLER; five children, Ellsworth, Cleda, Frances, Thelma and Eldon ZIEGLER; and one brother Alva ZIEGLER of Phillipsburg, O. Funeral services will be held at 2 p. m. Saturday at the Church of the Brethren in Springfield, with the Rev. J. J. Johnson, pastor in charge. Burial will be made in Vale cemetery.

Funeral services for Frank POOLE, 72, who died at 12:05 p.m. Monday at the home of his son, William POOLE, Route 9, will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Jackson funeral home. Burial will be made in Ferncliff cemetery. Mr. POOLE, who was almost a life-long resident of Springfield, died after a week's illness with bronchial pneumonia. He had been in failing health, however, for several years. Charles L. AULT, 53, former resident of Springfield and war veteran died at 3:15 p.m. Sunday at Ft. Robinson, Neb. according to word received by relatives in Springfield. For 30 consecutive years, Mr. AULT had served with the United States army. He first enlisted in the Spanish-American War, and following the war he remained in the army. At the time of the World War he was transferred to France, where he served throughout the entire war with the Rainbow Division. Mr. AULT remained in service after the World War. The last two years he had spent at Ft. Riley, Kan., and he was only recently transferred to the Nebraska post, where he died of pneumonia. He leaves two brothers, John H. AULT, 431 E. VERMILLION, 56, former motorman of The Springfield Railway Co., who died at 11:40 p.m. Sunday at his home, 102 Latta av., Columbus, will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Coffman funeral home, where the body will be brought Monday night. Burial will be made in Ferncliff cemetery. Mr. Vermillion was employed by The Springfield Railway Co. for 14 years as a motorman. He was forced to give up his position a year ago on account of an injury to his back. Last June he and his family moved to Columbus, where his health continued to fail until his death. He was affiliated with Waterloo Lodge, No 532 F. and A. M., of Waterloo, O., where he at one time resided. The body of John T. JONES, 85, who died at 9:45 p.m. Sunday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Pearl ESHENSELDER, 557 E. Madison av., after a long illness will be taken at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday to his former home in Huntington County near Warren, Ind., where funeral services will be held at (unreadable), Wednesday. Mr. Jones was born Feb. 21, 1831 near Warren Ind., and had spent his entire life there until he came to Springfield four years ago to make his home with his daughter. Mrs. Anna SHAFFER, 83, active church worker, died at 1:40 a.m. Monday at her home, 201 Montgomery av., after an illness of seven weeks. She had suffered an attack of influenza, which developed later into pneumonia. Born in Mercersburg, Pa., she spent the very early years of her life there. She came to Springfield 46 years ago from near Medway, where she had resided for some time. Her name prior to her marriage was Miss Anna SHAFFER, and her birthday and that of her husband, Samuel SHAFFER, Civil War veteran who died 13 years ago, both were on Valentines Day. Mrs. DIGAN had been ill only a week following a stroke of paralysis. She was the wife of T. J. DIGAN, with whom she and her family left Springfield about 20 years ago. Mrs. DIGAN was former member of the St. Raphael Church, in which she was always an active worker. Besides her husband, she leaves the following surviving relatives; two daughters, Miss Nelle DIGAN and Mrs. Alex SCHAEFFER, both of Pittsburg; her son, S. C. DIGAN of The DIGAN Cleaning and Dyeing establishment of Springfield; her sister-in-law, Mrs. Annie KELLY; a niece, Mrs. J. N ROBINSON, both of this city; a nephew, James S. Page 11. South Vienna, May 20 - Lemuel SMITH, 74, retired farmer, this city, hanged himself early this morning from a rafter in his barn. The body was found by his daughter, Miss Glenna SMITH, who lived with him. Miss SMITH missed her father this morning and went to his room to call him. She found the bed empty and became alarmed. She searched other rooms in the house and finally went to the barn where she saw his body hanging from a rafter in the haymow. A small piece of rope had been used and the noose was secured with an iron ring. Coroner Theodore F. SCHAEFER had not made his investigation of the tragedy yet this morning, but it is thought that Smith committed the act about 4:30 a.m. SMITH had been losing his eyesight for some time and his hearing was almost entirely gone. This is believed to have been responsible for the suicide. Two daughters survive SMITH, Miss Glenna and Mrs. Ruth MITCH of Catawba. Funeral announcements will be made later. Death Notice was published the next day, Tuesday, May 21, 1929: SMITH - Lemuel Smith, 74, committed suicide by hanging Monday morning, May 20, 1929, in his barn at South Vienna. Phillip J. SCHNEIDER, 48, Taken by Death While Working In Office Urbana, June 1,--Phillip J. SCHNEIDER, secretary of the Urbana Manufacturers' Association died from a stroke of apoplexy yesterday morning in his office. He was born in Springfield in 1881 and came to Urbana in 1907. While in Springfield he was engineer for the telephone company. In 1914 he formed The American Tool and Die Co., with the aid of H. P.Creighton. Two sons, Earl and John are students now at Wittenberg College. Mr. SCHNEIDER accepted the post of safety director under the former mayor, John Bucher, and helped to perfect the police and fire departments of this city. He was a former president of the Kiwanis Club and member or the American Society of Mechanical Engineers. He is survived by his widow and five children, Earl, John, Paul and Hugh at home, and Mrs. Ned KIRBY in London. After an illness of only a few hours, Ralph A BOYD, 57, lifelong resident of Springfield, died at 4 pm Friday at his home, 527 S Fountain Ave. Apoplexy was the cause of death. Mr Boyd had been in good health prior to Friday. Mrs Boyd had spent the afternoon downtown shopping and upon returning home was informed by her aunt, Mrs Margaret BOYD, who makes her home with them, that Mr Boyd had been slightly ill during the afternoon but had seemingly recovered. When Mrs Boyd went to her husband she found him dead. Born in Springfield, Mr Boyd had spent his entire life here. He was born Nov 11, 1872, in the house in which he died. For the last seven years he had been employed at The Springfield Metallic Casket Co as a timekeeper. He was a member of Anthony Lodge, F and AM, and was also a knight templar. He was affiliated with the High Street ME Church. Besides his widow, Mrs Nina BOYD, he leaves a son, Edward BOYD of Birmingham, AL; a step daughter Mrs Mildred DYE of this city; and a sister, Mrs Anna TUCKER of Salem, O. Mr Boyd was a nephew of OH ANDERSON, local real estate dealer. Funeral services will be held at 2 pm Monday at the residence. Burial will be made in Ferncliff Cemetery.

Mrs Martha Dollison, 83, a resident of the Knights of Pythias Home for the Aged, died at 5 am Friday at the home after a lengthy illness. She was admitted to the home Nov 14, 1925, from Byesville, O her former home. Two sons survive her. They are: BF DOLLISON of Bakersfield, CA and JA DOLLISON of San Francisco, CA.

Pg 20. Miss Ella KISSELL, for the last 36 years a teacher in Springfield public schools, died at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at her home, 235 W. Euclid Av., after an illness of only one week. Miss KISSELL was a teacher in the primary grades of the Emerson School for more than 12 years. Hundreds of her former pupils will mourn her death. William Roberts, principal of the school, paid her the following tribute in speaking on behalf of the teaching staff of the school: "We are deeply grieved by the loss of Miss KISSELL. She was a conscientious and able teacher and is sure to be missed. Her death was a shock to all of us." Miss Kissell was an active member of the First Lutheran Church and of the Women's Town Club. Surviving are four brothers, Charles M., South Charleston; John Earl, Galion; and Samuel J. and Ralph E. of Clark County; and two sisters, Villa M. and Anna R., both of Springfield. Funeral services will be held at 2:30p.m., at the residence, with Dr J. B. Markward, pastor of the First Lutheran Church, officiating. Burial will be made at Ferncliff Cemetery.

Miss Mae SAUTER, 40, WAS FOUND DEAD Monday at her home, 1245 East Main Street, Coroner Theodore F. Schaefer, who was called to investigate, attributed death to natural causes. She is believed to have been dead five or six days. The body was removed to the Jackson funeral home. The body was found by William FOX, son of Mr. and Mrs. Adolph FOX of 1239 East Main Street, who were neighbors and friends of Miss SAUTER. They had sent the boy to Miss SAUTER'S home to find out if there was anything wrong as she had not been seen about for some time. According to friends, Mrs. SAUTER was born in Springfield and had lived here her entire life. At the time of her death she was making preparations to vacate the house and to join her sister in Panama, where she would have made her future home. Her sister, Mrs. Minnie ELLIS, wife of First Sergeant Charles B. ELLIS of Battery A. Field Artillery, Fort Davis, Panama, is her only immediate relative. The body was removed to the Jackson funeral home, where funeral arrangements await the arrival or word from her sister.
