James V. DITTY, 76, of 707 Selma rd., died unexpectedly 8:45 p.m. Friday in City Hospital. Mr. DITTY was born Sept. 26, 1885, in Wellston, a son of John and Lana RICHARDS DITTY. He had been a Springfield resident for the past 52 years and prior to his retirement was a tool and die maker for 30 years at the International Harvester Co. He was a member of Local No. 402 UAW-CIO and attended First Church of Christ Scientist. Following his retirement from the International Harvester Co. he was employed by the Chakeres Theaters, Inc. Survivors include his wife, Mabel H.; a son, Allen V. of Detroit, Mich.; two daughters, Mrs. Laura BOYLE of Springfield and Mrs. Marjorie BURNS of Elkhart, Ind.; a sister, Mrs. Ella SWATS of Hinton, W.Va.; seven grandchildren; a great-grandson, and several nieces and nephews. His body was taken to the Jackson-Lytle funeral home where friends may call after 12 noon Sunday. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday in the funeral home with the Rev. Maynard Stull, pastor of the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, officiating. Burial will be in Ferncliff Cemetery. Comment by submitter, Mary K. Thomas Jefferson Baker, 70, of 209 Neosha Ave. died in his residence about midnight Thursday after a lengthy illiness. Cause of death was apparently a heart attack. Mr. Baker, a member of the Blessed Hope Baptist Church was born in Portsmouth, April 5, 1891, the son of Thomas J. and Harriet Spence Baker. He had lived in Springfield about 50 years. His wife, Edna Vuker Baker, died Jan. 11, 1961.

Mrs. Ruth M. Castor, 58, of 535 S. Fountain Ave. , died at 8 A.M. Saturday in her residence following several years of failing health. Mrs Castor was born September 5, 1903 in Roundhead Ohio, a daughter of Charles and Maude Neal. She was a member of the United Missionary Church and was a Springfield resident most of her life. Survivors include her husband James; three daughters, Mrs. Rita Hanaway of Springfield, Mrs. Virginia Harrison of Bluffton, Indiana, and Mrs. Jacquelyn Haywood of Springfield ; two brothers John Neal of Columbus and Hershel Neal of Phoenix, Arizona, and 13 Grandchildren . Sol Cochranm 66, of 241 E. North St. died in City Hospital at 10:03 P.M. Friday after an illness of 12 weeks. Mr. Cochran, who was a custodian for the Ohio Welding Co., is survived by his widow, Ida. His body was taken to the Dennis L. Porter Funeral Home.

URBANA - Luther C. Kelley, 63, of 535 Scioto St. ,died at 7:30 P.M. Friday in Mercy Memorial Hospital where he had been a patient since Oct.1. Mr. Kelley was born July 17, 1898 in Urbana, a son of Elmer and Adelia Boyer Kelley. He was the owner of the Kelley Coal and Gas Co. of Urbana for the past 30 years and was a graduate of Urbana High School and attended Dennison and Ohio State Universities. He was a member of the Church of the Epiphany and was a vestry-man of the church. He was a member of American Legion Post No. 741 of Urbana, the Urbanas Lion Club, Harmony Lodge 8, F & AM, Urbana No. 34, R. and A.M. Urbana Council Council No. 59, R. & S. M. and the Scioto Consistory of Scottish Rite of Columbus. Survivors include his wife, Ruth; two daughters, Mrs. Robert A. LAWYER of Omaha, Neb. and Mrs. James B RAMINGER of Broomfield, Colo., and a grandson, Robert S. LAWYER of Omaha, Neb. His body was taken to the Humphreys Funeral Home where friends may call from 7 P.M. Saturday until 1 P.M. Monday. The body will lie in state at the Church of the Epiphany from 1 P.M. Monday until services at 2:30 P.M. Monday with the Rev. William H. Schneiger, rector, officiating. Burial will be in Oak Dale Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Alice D.; five daughters, Mrs. Howard CLARK of Laurel, Ind., Mrs. BYRAM OLER of Springfield, Mrs. Eugene WORLEY of Centerville, Ind., Mrs. Frank LATELLO and Mrs. Bernice TIPPETT, both of Richmond, Inc.; two sons, Ewel THOMPSON of Springfield and Price THOMPSON of Richmond, Inc.; seven stepsons, Billy THOMPSON of Richmond, Ind., Robert MAINE, Kenneth, Glen, Roger, Philip and James, all of Springfield; a brother, the Rev. Waldemar Haupt pastor of High Street Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Rosehill Cemetery. Mrs. KRUEGER died at 1:15 a.m. Tuesday in the IOOF Home Hospital. She was the mother of Dr. Raymond L. KRUEGER, professor of mathematics at Wittenberg University. Mrs. KRUEGER had been in failing health for the past year. She was born in Leavenworth, Kan. of Dec. 8, 1879, a daughter of Alonzo and Agnes TREMAINE SMITH. She had resided in Springfield for six years, having lived in Chicago previously. Survivors besides the son include one grandson, Ross T. Krueger, a student at the College of Wooster. Mrs. KRUEGER'S husband, Fred R., died on Dec. 2, 1960. Friends may call at the funeral home from 3 to 5 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday.

Anson A. COST, 68, a former Springfield resident died n an Englewood, Calif., near Englewood, for the past two and a half years, Mr. COST moved there from Dayton where he had worked with the McCall Publishing Co. Previously he had been associated with the Crowell-Collier Co. in Springfield. He was a member of St. Luke Lutheran Church in Springfield and with the Red Star Lodge, No. 205, Knights of Pythias. He was born in New Carlisle Sept. 27, 1893. Survivors are his widow, Ellen Marie; one son, Calvin of El Segundo, and three grandsons of California. His body will be brought to the Richards Memorial Home.

Ernest J. SHUMAN, Jr. 37, of 1902 Pond dr. died in City Hospital at 10:30 a.m. Thursday following one week's serious illness. He had been in failing health for six months. A graduate of Ohio State University, Mr. Shuman worked for the Internal Revenue Service for three years before holding positions as a public accountant for several Springfield firms. Recently he had opened his own public accounting office. Mr. SHUMAN, who served with the U.S. Army in the European Theater of operations during World War II, was a Springfield resident 12 years. He was a member of Central Christian Church. A native of Fostoria, he was born July 23, 1924, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Joy SHUMAN. Survivors are his wife, Marilyn, Barbara, Beverly, Judith, James and Robert; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. SHUMAN, Sr., of Sarasota, Fla.; and one brother, Robert of Cincinnati. His body was taken to the Jackson Lytle funeral home. The body then will be taken to the Mann funeral home in Fostoria where services will be held Saturday afternoon. Burial will be in a Fostoria cemetery.

SOUTH VIENNA - Clifford W. DILLARD, 69, of South Vienna, Route 1, died at 3:55 a.m. Friday in Springfield City Hospital following a three week illness. Mr. DILLARD was born Feb. 12, 1892, in Pike County, O., a son of William and Victoria DILLARD. He had been a farmer in the South Vienna vicinity since 1928 and was a member of the Springfield Evangelistic Tabernacle. Survivors include his wife, Edith; four sons, Edward, Verlyn, David and John, all of South Vienna; six brothers, Thomas, Herbert and Luther, all of London, O., James and Hinton, both of Springfield and Desloyes of South Vienna and tow sisters, Miss Russie M. DILLARD of London, O. and Mrs. Joanna KNOFF of West Liberty. A brother, Ralph, preceded him in death. His body was taken to the Ingling funeral home in South Charleston and will be taken to his residence Friday evening where friends may call. His body will be taken to the South Solon Church of Christ in Christian Union at noon Sunday and will lie in state in the church until services at 2:30 p.m. Sunday. Burial will be in South Solon Cemetery.

John L. KREIS, 71 of 1531 Pythian av. died at 12:45 p.m. Wednesday in Mercy Hospital. He was born May 19, 1890, in Marysville, O., but had resided in Springfield most of his life. He was the son of Martin and Margaret KREIS. He was an active member of First Lutheran Church, a veteran of World War I, a member of St. Andrews Lodge No. 619, F, and A.M., the Antioch Shrine and the Scottish Rite, Valley of Dayton. Mr. KREIS was a 50-year member of the International Photoengravers Union and was employed by the Crowell-Collier Publishing Co here for many years. He was active in Boy Scout work a number of years ago. Survivors include his widow, Catherine E.; two sons, Kohler M. of Louisville, Ky., and John C. of Springfield; four sisters, Mrs. Amelia GRAFF, Ann and Mary KREIS, and Mrs. Marguerite ROMIG, all of Springfield, two nieces and four grandchildren. His body was taken to the Jackson-Lytle funeral home. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in the funeral home with the Rev. Lawrence T. Mr. BISHOP was born Jan. 15, 1895 in Springfield, a son of Staulding and Mary BURNS BISHOP. He had been a Springfield resident all of his life and was a 50-year member of the Plumbers Local No. 57. He was a veteran of World War I and was assistant Plumbing Inspector for Springfield for 5 years. He retired last year. Survivors include his wife, Beulah; two sons, Robert and Richard, both of Sprnigfield; two daughters, Mrs. Genevieve HEINZEN and Mrs. Rosemary RAPP, both of Springfield; a brother, Hanford of Detroit, Mich; a sister Mrs. Gladys MORTENSEN of Austin, Minn; seven grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. His body was taken to the Littleton Funeral Home.

Mrs. Birdie DEATON , 71, of Yellow Springs, formerly of Springfield, died at 9:45 p.m. Saturday in City Hospital where she had been a patient four days. She had been in failing health since suffering a coronary attack last March. She was the widow of Glenn DEATON , Yellow Springs hardware store proprietor who was killed when struck by a car in 1949. She lived at 120 E. Limestonest., Yellow Springs. She was born Dec. 28, 1890, in Enon, a daughter of Charles and Elizabeth MUMMA SWANEY. She lived in Springfield before moving to Yellow Springs in1937. Mrs. DEATON was a member of the Yellow Springs Methodist Church and Home City Chapter, Order of Eastern Star, Springfield. Surviving are a son, Wilbur W. DEATON of Yellow Springs, owner of the Deaton Hardware; a brother, Henry SWANEY of Toledo, and two grandchildren, Melanie and Randall DEATON of Yellow Springs. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Yellow SpringsMethodist Church by the Rev. Donald MORGAN, pastor. Burial will be in NewCarlisle Cemetery. Friends may call at the Coffman funeral home, Yellow Springs, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday. The body will lie in state in the church from noon Tuesday until services. LEHMAN Name of Newspaper is Daily News, Springfield, OH on Tuesday, January 2, 1962

Ogden R LEHMAN, 67, a retired electrician for the City of Springfield, was found dead in his residence at 730 W Second st about 5:30 pm Monday. Death was attributed to a heart attack which apparently struck Mr Lehman Sunday morning. Coroner Austin Richards said Mr Lehman had been dead for about 34 hours when his body was discovered on the floor of his home by a neighbor. Mr. Lehman was born in Dialton. He was a veteran of World War I and was a member of the First United Church of Christ in Springfield and of Mt Olivet Lodge, F and A M, in Christiansburg. Mr Lehman had been living alone since the death of his wife, Pearl, in 1953. He was the last living member of his family and had no immediate survivors. His body was taken to the Richeson-Wickman funeral home in St Paris for services at 2 pm Thursday by the Rev Kenneth Murphy. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery at Troy. Friends may call at the funeral home after noon Wednesday. Masonic lodge services will be conducted at a time not yet scheduled.

Mr. FISHER was born Sept. 9, 1887, in Union County, the son of Thomas B. and Josephine PARISH FISHER. He was a member of the Central Methodist Church, and the official board of the church. Also, he was a member of St. Andrew Lodge No. 619, F. and A. M. Mr. FISHER attened Transylvania College, and Wittenberg University. A veteran of World War II, Mr. Montjar had been president of the Reserve Officers Association here eight years. Mr. NOMTJAR was a native of Moscow, O., the son of Dr. KAUFMAN and Cora Rice NOMTJAR. He was born Aug. 39, 1905, and moved to Springfield 13 years ago from Cincinnati. Survivors include his widow, Lucille; two sons, Mark and Dwight, both at home, and two sisters, Mrs. Eva OTTING of Cincinnati, and Mrs. James CUNNINGHAM, Los Angeles, Calif. He was born in Waverly, Jan 6, 1892, a son of Alex and Martha STRAIN. Formerly of West Jefferson, he had resided in Springfield for 50 years. When he came to Springfield, Mr. STRAIN was associated with the Springfield Street Railway Co for 14 years. He joined the Police Division Oct. 1, 1926, and served for nearly 29 years, retiring as a sergeant in April, 1955. Mr. FOLEY, a retired farmer, lived all but one year of his life in Moorefield Township of Clark County. He was born in Moorefield Township, March 16, 1880 the son of Henry C. and Virginia ERNST FOLEY. The New Moorefield Council, No 107, J.R.O.U.A.M., was begun Feb. 14, 1898, with Mr. FOLEY as one of the charter members. He is believed to have been the last surviving charter member of the organization. Survivors are his widow, Hattie, one daughter, Mrs. June KARL of Springfield; two sons, Arnold of New Moorefield and Cecil FOLEY of Springfield; four step-daughters, Mrs. Margaret YEISER of Kentucky, Mrs. Viola NAWMAN of North Lewisburg, and Mrs. Ora Jane GEIS of Yellow Springs and Mrs. Pauline DESELEM of Springfield; five step-sons, Francis, Ralph and Merlin of Springfield, Harold of Mount Vernon and Millard RAFERTY of Hinville, Ga; nine grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. Russell Albert BADER, 58, of 212 W. Columbia st., one time member of the Ringling Bros. Circus band, died at 7:50 p.m. Wednesday in Mercy Hospital following an illness of one week. Together with his brother, Lewis, he joined the band of the Sells-Foto Circus. �In 1923 Lewis took his trombone over to Ringling Bros. Circus and when Russell heard of an opening for a trumpet player on the Ringling band, he also made the switch. Russell came from a family of musicians. His father was once described as "one of the best square-dance fiddlers around the little Indiana town where he lived," and his mother was a piano teacher. All 10 members of the family played some musical instrument. �A native of Williamsport, Ind., Russell was born Dec. 19, 1903, the son of John D. and Belle THOMPSON BADER. He was a veteran of World War II, and a member of Musicians Local, No. 160. He was a clerk of the State Liquor Store, No. 67, in Springfield. Survivors are two sisters, Mrs. Glenn LEICHNER of Columbus and Mrs. James FENNESSY of Springfield; and two brothers, John R. of Detroit and Lewis W. Bader of Springfield. His body was taken to the Littleton funeral home where friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m. Friday.
