Page 1 and 4. Wilbur P. BYERMAN, Springfield businessman, died at 4:40 a.m. Friday in the City Hospital. Mr. BYERMAN of 103 W. Perrin av., was 69. Death followed an extended period of failing health and was attributed to a heart aliment. He was admitted to the hospital last Saturday. Mr. BYERMAN was president of The Springfield City Lines, Inc., operator of the local street bus system, and president of W. P. Byerman, Inc., a local trucking, storage and furniture merchandising firm. Long one of the leaders in the Springfield business activities, Mr. BYERMAN was one of the principal organizers of the local bus system. His associates in that successful venture were the late Charles F. Jackson, local funeral director, and the late J. Miller Pogue, a transportation expert. Mr. BYERMAN also was the organizer of W. P. Byerman, Inc. He started the trucking business 37 years ago and since that time the business was expanded into its present position. At one time Mr. BYERMAN was a director of the Springfield Federal Savings and Loan Association. However, ill health forced his retirement from that position several years ago. Besides his business interests, Mr. BYERMAN maintained an active association in several other fields. These included the Kiwanis Club in which he was a former director, the Springfield Automobile Club in which he was a vice president, and the Springfield community Chest in which he held a prominent position as a successful fund-raiser in many of the organization's yearly campaigns. Mr. BYERMAN's other affiliations include St. Andrew's Lodge No. 619, Free and Accepted Masons; Springfield Chapter No. 48, Royal Arch Masons; Springfield Council No. 17; Royal and Select Masters; Palestine Commandery No. 33, Knights Templar; Ingomar Lodge No. 610, Knights of Pythias; and Springfield Lodge No. 51, Protective Order of Elks. His church association was a life membership in the Second Lutheran Church. In addition to all his other interests, Mr. BYERMAN was a race horse fancier and breeder. At one time, he maintained a stable of prize-winners. However, in recent years he only raced two horses. Mr. BYERMAN was born in Springfield Feb. 12, 1881, a son of John H. and Susan E. DUDLEY BYERMAN. He obtained his education in the Springfield public schools. Mr. BYERMAN for a time was employed at the International Harvester Co. after competing his education. He started in the trucking business in 1913. Mr. BYERMAN is survived by his widow, the former Della M. RUMMEL of Springfield; two brothers, C. Ray BYERMAN, office manager of the Clark County Board of Elections, and Howard S. BYERMAN, also of Springfield, and three sisters, Mrs. Nettie HAERR, Mrs. Goldie S. TRITLE, and Mrs. Hazel HORTON, all also of Springfield. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday in the Jackson-Lytle Funeral Home. The Rev. Paul P. Anspach, pastor of Second Lutheran Church, and the Rev. Robert W. Ulstick, pastor of the First United Presbyterian Church will officiate. Burial will be in Ferncliff Cemetery.

FRAHER, MCNAMARA Name of Newspaper is Daily News, Springfield, OH on Saturday, September 16, 1950

Paul Leo MCNAMARA, 47, of 224 Oakwood pl., an employee of The Crowell-Collier Publishing Co. for 20 years, died at 12:25 a.m. Saturday in Mercy Hospital. He was admitted to the hospital Friday afternoon. Mr. MCNAMARA worked as an etcher at The Crowell-Collier Publishing Co. for 20 years. A native of Springfield, he was born here Aug. 26, 1903 and was the son of James and Nora FRAHER MCNAMARA. He was a member of St. Raphael Church. Surviving are two brothers, Thomas H. of Springfield and Joseph of Mishawaka, Ind., and a niece, Mary Therese MCNAMARA, also of Mishawaka. The body was taken to the O'Brien-Kenney funeral home. Solemn requiem mass will be held at 9 a.m. Tuesday in St. Raphael Church. Burial will be in St. Patrick Cemetery, London, O.

Page 15. William C. BOWERS, 82, of 127 Fostoria av., a fruit grower and nursery enthusiast for many years, died suddenly in his home at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday. A native of Maryland, Mr. BOWERS was born Oct. 12, 1867. He had resided in Springfield 40 years and for some time was employed by the Reed Furniture Co. here. Mr. BOWERS became interested in fruit growing and nursery stock after he lost a hand in an industrial mishap. Until his death he kept an orchard of considerable size at his home known as the Maplewood Orchards and Flower Gardens. Mr. BOWERS was a member of the Third Lutheran Church and Springfield Lodge No. 33, IOOF. Surviving are his widow, Christie; a sister, Mrs. Carrie MIDDLEKAUFF of Hagerstown, Md., and two brothers, Lewis L. BOWERS and Charles BOWERS, both of Hagerstown. The body was taken to the Richards Memorial Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday in the funeral home by the Rev. Wilbur HARMONY, pastor of the Third Lutheran Church. Joseph P. REINHEIMER, Head of Water Department, Dies
Funeral services for Joseph P. REINHEIMER, 57, superintendent of the City Water Department, will be held at 3:30 p.m. Monday in the Littleton Funeral Home with the Rev. Frederick Mueller, of the First Lutheran Church, in charge. Burial will be In Ferncliff Cemetery. Mr. REINHEIMER, who was a lifelong resident of Springfield, died suddenly at 7:45 p.m. Friday in Mercy Hospital. He was admitted to the hospital for observation Wednesday. He underwent an abdominal operation Thursday following several hemorrhages. His condition was reported as "fair" by hospital attaches following the operation but the physician sated that he did not respond as expected to the operation. He had been a member of the official municipal staff for 38 years, starting with the engineering department as a rodman in 1912. Mr. Reinheimer advanced in positions and was serving as assistant city engineer when he was named early in 1942 to head the Water Department. He had held that position ever since. City officials who have known him for a long time expressed words of sorrow and regret upon hearing of his death Friday night. City Engineer William E. LUCAS, under whom he first worked when he joined the city staff, said he "was a highly-respected citizen and a valuable city employee." Special City Counsel Thomas D. HODGE said of Mr. Reinheimer: "I knew him throughout his lifetime and considered him not only an intimate friend whose death I consider a personal loss, but the most efficient departmental official which the city has ever had." During a brief period in his life, Mr. Reinheimer was associated with the Ohio Edison Co., as assistant resident engineer on the construction of an addition to the Mad River plant. In addition he served an county sanitary engineer. During this time he was in charge of the installation of a water system in the Rockaway area. He attended local public schools and was a graduate of Springfield High School. He later attended Ohio State University where he was enrolled in the engineering school. For many years prior to his death he was active in functions of the First Lutheran Church of which he was a member. He served as a councilman or a period and more recently had been conducting a boys' class in the church. He was also an active Mason being a member of Anthony Lodge No. 455, F.and A.M. He served as high priest of the Springfield Chapter No. 48, Royal Arch Masons, and illustrious master of Springfield Council No. 17, Royal and Select Masters. Mr. Reinheimer also held membership in the American Society of Mechanical Engineers. Surviving are his widow, Dorothy of 240 E. McCreight av.; a son John of Wooster, and three daughters, Mrs. R.J. PATTERSON, Hollywood, Fla., Mrs. Hall Wesley COMPTON, Dayton, and Miss Mary Lou REINHEIMER, a teacher in the Huntington, W.Va., public school system. About a week prior to Mr. Reinheimer's death, another well-known city official died. Francis X. SADLIER, also for many years affiliated with the engineering department, died in Mercy Hospital. Mr. Reinheimer's body was taken to the Littleton Funeral Home.

Charles F. ROBINSON , Sr., 65, of 221 S. Race st., died at his home at 10 p.m. Sunday following an illness of six years. Born in Springfield Feb. 14, 1885, a son of Charles and Rose Moss ROBINSON , he retired in 1944 from his work as a metal polisher for the Steel Products Engineering Co., 1205 W. Columbia st. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Elsie ROBINSON ; a daughter, Mrs. Bertha WAITS, Springfield; three sons, Richard and Charles, Jr., both of Springfield, and George, Lakeview, O.; seven grandchildren and two brothers, Albert and Samuel, both of Springfield. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Jackson-Lytle funeral home by the Rev. E. E. KOEPP, pastor of the Grace Evangelical and Reformer Church. Dewey THACKER, 51, of 14 S. Williams st., died unexpectedly of a heart attack in his home about 2 p.m. Sunday. Born in Ross County, O., Sept. 3, 1889, he was the son of George and Florence THACKER, and lived nearly his entire life in Springfield. He was a member of the local Fraternal Order of Eagles. Surviving are the widow, Mildred; two daughters, Mrs. Robert BOWSER and Miss Cora Eileeen THACKER; a son, Edgar Gene THACKER, all of Springfield; his mother, Mrs. Forence MERWINE of Marion, O.; one sister, Mrs. Mable CRABLE of Columbus; two brothers, Elmer of Chillicothe and Welby, address unknown; three grandchildren. The body was taken to the Richards Memorial Home.

SCHMIDT, SCHWERS Name of Newspaper is Daily News, Springfield, OH on Monday, September 25, 1950

Mrs. Rosa Augusta SCHWERS, 81, a native of Springfield, died at 10:45 a.m. Sunday in the home of a son, Arthur M. SCHWERS of Youngstown, where she had resided about 13 years. Mrs. SCHWERS was born Oct. 11, 1868, and had resided in Springfield until 1937. Her husband, George SCHWERS, died here in 1930. Mrs. SCHWERS was a former member of the St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church. Surviving besides her son are a sister, Mrs. Grace SCHMIDT of Springfield, and two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. The body will arrive Tuesday at the Littleton Funeral Home for services there at 8 p.m. Tuesday in charge of St. John's Church. It then will be taken to Billings, Mo., for burial.

She suffered a cerebral hemorrhage about midnight Friday. Born in Plattsville, April 8, 1879, she was a daughter of Amos an Elizabeth VORESS BOTKIN. Mrs. CALDWELL had lived most of her life in Clark County and was a member of the Evangelical and Reformed Church in North Hampton. Surviving besides the husband are five sons, Harold of North Hampton, Cloyd of Springfield, Fred and Elwood of Columbus and Russell of Urbana; one daughter, Mrs. William MCGUIRE of Columbus; one sister, Mrs. Samuel NEFF of Westville; nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. The body was taken to the Jackson-Lytle funeral home where services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday by the Rev. M. P. Schoepfle, pastor of the Evangelical and Reformed Church of North Hampton. Clinton MCCANDLESS, 59, of 271 Deardorff av., and employed of the Crowell-Collier Publishing Co. for 32 years, died at 8:20 a.m. Tuesday in his home of coronary thrombosis. He had been ill since Sept. 16. Mr. MCCANDLESS was a member of Local no. 348, International Printing Pressmen and Assistant's Union, AFL. He was a member of Champion Aerie No. 397, Fraternal Order of Eagles, and was a veteran of World War I. He attended the Church of God in Madison County. A son of Marion F. and Ella PATTON MCCANDLESS, he was born in Wrightsville, Madison County, July 18, 1891. He is survived by his wife, Lee M. MCCANDLESS, three foster children, Mrs. Evelyn MCFARLAND and Charles QUICKEL of South Charleston and Edwin QUICKEL, at home; one sister, Mrs. Gladys BAKER of London, O.; seven grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews and cousins. The body was taken to the Littleton funeral home where the Rev. C A. Sundberg will conduct services at 1:30 p.m. Friday. Burial will be in Rose Hill Burial Park.

Tremont city - Harry C. BOBO, a retired farmer of Tremont City, died in a Dayton hospital at 10 AM Saturday after an illness of four years. He was 68 years old. Born in North Hampton, he was the son of Norton and Ann LEHMON BOBO and is survived by his widow, Nellie; six sons, Willard, Jackson, Michigan; Claude, Tremont City; Elbert, Springfield; Fred, Springfield, Route 4; Woodrow and Vernon both of New Carlisle; a brother, Glendon BOBO, Springfield; three sisters, the Misses Elsie and Emma BOBO, Dialton, and Mrs. Mary HOWARD, Springfield and thirteen grandchildren. Mr. Bobo's body was removed to the Littleton funeral home in Springfield.

John P. QUIRK, 71, of 1569 East Main Street, was pronounced dead on arrival at City Hospital about 2:15 p.m. Monday, probably of a heart condition. Mr. QUIRK was stricken at 1815 E. Main Street. The Fire Division emergency squad was called for aid at 2:07 p.m. A retired molder, Mr. QUIRK was born in London, Ohio. He was a member of St. Bernard Church here. Survivors include his widow, Mary; two daughters, Mrs. Helen TRIEB, Seattle, and Mrs. Margaret MCWILLIAMS, Dearborn, Mich.; a son, John, Jr., of Springfield; a sister, Mrs. Mary ULLIMAN, Springfield, and six grandchildren. Harvey G. PIERCE, 2325 Tavenner av., an employee of International Harvester Co. for 40 years, died suddenly of a heart attack at 7:20 a.m. Wednesday in his residence. Mr. PIERCE, a Springfield resident for approximately 41 years, was employed in the wood mill at the local IHC plant at the time of his death. He was a member of the Lagonda Evangelical United Brethren Church and served as president of the men's class of the church until two years ago when he resigned this post because of failing health. A son of Aeries and Jane PIERCE, he was born in Meigs County. Surviving are the wife, Mary L.; two daughters, Mrs. Eula WHITE AND Mrs. Jean STOLL of Springfield; two sons, Asa of Springfield and Kenneth of South Charleston; six grandchildren, on great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews. Chester E SMITH, 68, of 538 Tibbetts Ave, a former employee of the Ridgely Trimmer Co, died at 4:17 am Tuesday in the Fairborn Rest Home where he had been a patient three months. He had been in failing health 18 months. Mr Smith, a press operator for The Ridgely Co 28 years, retired more than a year ago because of ill health. Born in Oak Hill, Oh November 23, 1882, he was a son of Robert and Elizabeth KELLY SMITH. He had been a Springfield resident for approximately 30 years and was a member of the Clifton Avenue Methodist Church. Survivors are three daughters, Mrs Mary HAMPTON, Mrs Ruth DUDLEY, and Mrs Doris RILEY all of Springfield; three sons, Ralph of Waterloo, OH and Robert and Frederick of Springfield; nine grandchildren and one great grandchild. The body was taken to Woods Funeral Home where friends may call after Wednesday afternoon.

Edward ANDERSON, 68, a retired farmer, died at 2 am Tuesday in his residence, 189 Willis Ave, following several months illness. Born in Clark County, Dec 15, 1881, he was a son of William and Mary HOUCK ANDERSON. He farmed for many years in Champaign County, before moving to Springfield three years ago. He is survived by his wife, Hattie; a son, Clarence E of Springfield; one granddaughter; one sister, Mrs Rella PALMER of Springfield; one brother George ANDERSON of Mechanicsburg, and several nieces and nephews. The body was taken to Humphrey Funeral Home, Urbana, where services will be held at 2 pm Friday, with Dr Earl McKinney, pastor of Oakland Community Presbyterian Church, officiating. Burial will be in Oak Dale Cemetery there.

Page 17. Sister Mary Leonard, 62, formerly of Springfield, died in the Mt. Saint Joseph on-the-Ohio, Cincinnati, mother house of the Sisters of Charity at 3 p.m. Thursday. She had been ill for two months and death and death resulted from a heart attack in her room. She was Clara KAMPMAN before entering the convent 46 years ago in 1904. She was born in Springfield on April 7, 1888, the daughter of John and Mary KAMPMAN. She taught grade school classes in Springfield at St. Joseph School, and in Dayton, Detroit, Cincinnati, and Madisonville, O. Surviving are a sister, Mrs. William WHITACRE of Springfield; six brothers, Frank of Springfield, George of Xenia, Leo of California, Fred of Detroit, Joseph of East Orange, N.J., and Brother Louis, S.M., of the University of Dayton. The body will remain at Mt. Saint Joseph on-the-Ohio for services at 9 a.m. Saturday. Burial will be in the convent cemetery.

Page 17. Mrs. Myrtle BOWERMEISTER, 64, of 522 N. Light st., died of leukemia at 9:45 a.m. Friday in City Hospital where she had been a patient since Nov. 27. She had been ill two years. Born Jan. 4, 1886, in Gap Mills, W. Va., she was a daughter of Robert and Angela MILLER ROSS. She had resided in Springfield for 35 years and was a member of the Christian Church of Bowersville. Her husband, Howard BOWERMEISTER, died in August, 1948. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Dorothy MULLER and Mrs. Elva WLOSHINSKI; two sons, Robert, all of Springfield, Route 2; five grandchildren, Frank David and Robert Carl MULLER and David and Dean BOWERMEISTER, all of Springfield, and Stanley WLOSHINSKI, stationed with the army at Fort Bliss, Tex.; one sister, Mrs. Minnie BROWN of Dayton, and three brothers, Earl ROSS of Springfield, Ralph ROSS of Jamestown, and James ROSS of Lancaster, Pa. Services Slated Friday For L.H. PICKERING. DONNELSVILLE - Funeral services for Lester H. (Pick) PICKERING, 56, who died at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Springfield City Hospital, will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday in the Trostel funeral home, New Carlisle, by the Rev. Raymon Konkright, pastor of the Donnelsville Methodist Church. Burial will be in Glen Haven Memorial Gardens. Mr. PICKERING was admitted to the hospital Monday after a heart attack. He was operator of Pick's Garage here, president and day captain of the Donnelsville Community Volunteer Fire Department and a member of the Village Council. A World War I veteran, he was 1948049 commander of the Second District of the Disabled American Veterans. He was a member of the Jr. OUAM at Donnelsville. Surviving are the widow, Lena ANDREWS PICKERING; a daughter, Mrs. Elizabeth PARKS, Lexington, Ky.; two sons, Robert E. and Jack PICKERING, both of Donnelsville; his mother, Mrs. Jeanette PICKERING, Donnelsville, and two grandchildren. The body was taken to the funeral home, and will be returned to the residence here Wednesday evening. Friends may call at the residence anytime Thursday. Born near Donnelsville on Jan. 17, 1869, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew LEFFEL, Mrs. Botkin was a resident of Springfield for the past quarter century. She was the widow of William H. BOTKIN. Mrs. BOTKIN was a member of the First Church of God. Survivors include two sons, Albert B. and Horace F. Mrs. BIXLER resided most of her life at North Hampton and was a member of the North Hampton Methodist Church. Surviving are a son, Ralph D. Mrs Clara W HOBERTY, 74, died at 8:15 P.M. Tuesday in her residence on the Dalton Rd, Springfield Route 2, following an illness of one year. Mrs Hobarty was born August 18, 1876 in Champaign county near Terre haute. She had lived most of her life in Clark and Champaign counties with the exception of 14 years spent in New Jersey. She was a member of the North Hampton Evangelical Reformed Church and of Faith Council 198, Daughters of America, in Urbana. The former city commissioner had been a practicing attorney in Springfield since 1912. He served as a city official from 1933 to 1935. He had been an unsuccessful candidate for Clark County Probate and Common Please Court judgeships. Mr. LORENTZ was a director and former president of the Springfield Federal Savings and Loan Association. He also was a former president of District Two, Ohio Buildings Association League. He was a member and former president of the Clark County Bar Association and also was a member of the American Bar Association. He was a member of the law firm, of TODD, TEHAN and LORENTZ, which he helped to organize in 1927. He formerly served as worshipful master of St. Andrew's Lodge No. 619, F. and A. M. and as eminent commander of Palestine Commandery No. 33, Knights Templar. The attorney resided on Redmond Rd., Springfield, Route 6. He was born in Quaker City, O., on July 16, 1887. He married Eliza WOOLISTON. Mr. LORENTZ received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Marshall College, Huntington, W. Va. and his Law degree from Ohio State University in 1910. He was admitted to the Ohio Bar in 1911 and practiced for one year in Columbus before coming to Springfield. Survivors include his widow and a son, Philip, and two grandchildren. HARSHMAN, 85, of 4 Harshman blvd., a member of the SNYDER family which donated SNYDER Park to Springfield in 1895, died at 4:30 a.m. Thursday in her residence. She had been ill for the past eight weeks. Mrs. HARSHMAN, the widow of Johnothan Small HARSHMAN, was born Nov. 29, 1865 in Snyderville, a daughter of Henry and Annie HERTZLER SNYDER. However, she moved to Springfield at an early age and resided here the rest of her life. Here, she was affiliated with the First Congregational Christian Church and during her earlier life took a great interest in civic affairs. The large grant of land which her family gave to the city was only one of many acts of philanthropy which the family performed in Springfield. Some of the SNYDER property was sold to a development firm and utilized as an addition to the city and was named the HARSHMAN addition. Still another portion of the property was sold to be used as a site for certain portions of the Ohio Masonic Home. Mrs. HARSHMAN'S husband was one of the persons who helped to found the old Dayton and Urbana Traction Co. Survivors include one son, George W. of Cincinnati; two daughters, Mrs. Anna H. HUFFMAN and Mrs. Virginia H. DILLARD, both of Springfield; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. The body was taken to the Littleton funeral home.

On March 1, 1935, he became associated with the Springfield Savings Society. Prior to that time, he was employed by the old Mad River Bank and the American Trust and Savings Bank, which merged into the First National Bank. Mr. MELLEN had been vice-president of the Savings Society since Jan. 8, 1945, and served as assistant secretary in the bank before that time. An active Mason, Mr. MELLEN was a member of all York Rite lodges, including Springfield Chapter No. 48, RAM; Springfield Council No. 17, R. and S. M. and Palestine Commandery No. 33, Knights Templar. He also served as treasurer of Anthony Lodge No. 435, F. and A. M., and was a member of Antloch Temple, AAOMMS, Dayton. Mr. MELLEN, who attended Wittenberg College and Wooster College, Wooster, O., was a member of the First Congreational Christian Church, retiring from church activities approximately eight months ago due to ill health. Mr. MELLEN served as Sunday School superintendent, church moderator and in various capacities on the church's board of trustees. At one time, he also instructed a Sunday School class. John L. ROSS, 58, formerly of Springfield, died at 11 a.m. Wednesday in his home in Dayton. A tool maker, he had worked in many Springfield factories and was employed by General Motors Corp. at Dayton for the last 17 years. Surviving are his widow, Mildred, a son, John T. of Springfield; three daughters, Mrs. Clarence PARK, Mrs. Ben HILER, and Mrs. Russell MCKEE, all of Springfield; two step-sons, Edwin of Springfield and David of Dayton; five grandchildre4n and five step-grandchildren. The body was taken to the Hoyne funeral home in Dayton.
