During the Civil War he served with the 60th Ohio Battery, and was a member of the Grand Army of the Republic. He was also affiliated with the New Carlisle Masonic and Odd Fellow orders. Besides his widow, Mrs. Mary MIRANDA to whom he was married just a few days before he was taken ill, he leaves two children, M. D. MIRANDA of Columbus, and Mrs. Mabel CLIPPINGER of Dayton; five grandchildren and several great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Doom funeral home in New Carlisle, where friends may view the body from Wednesday until the time of the funeral. Burial will be made in New Carlisle.

Page 14. New Carlisle Official Dies. T. J. MIRANDA, Justice of the Peace for Last 25 Years, Succumbs. Following an illness of three weeks with pneumonia, Thomas J. MIRANDA, 83, well known resident of New Carlisle, died at 3 p.m. Monday at his home in that place. Mr. MIRANDA had been justice of the peace of New Carlisle for the last 25 years, and was a candidate for mayor of that town four different times. He had always taken an active part in the town administration. He was born near North Hampton, and had lived in Clark County practically all his life. During the Civil War, he served with the 60th Ohio Battery, and was a member of the Grand Army of the Republic. He was also affiliated with the New Carlisle Masonic and Odd Fellow orders. John A. Spang, 18, formerly of this city, died Wednesday morning, Jan. 8, 1930 in Orient. O. The body was brought to Springfield to the home of his sister, Mrs. Raymond H. Gaier, 737 E. Madison st. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the St. Raphael Church. Burial will be made in St. Bernard Cemetery.

Word has been received in Springfield of the death of John A. Spang, 18, formerly of this city, which occurred Wednesday morning in Orient, O. Mr. Spang was born in Springfield and had lived here until a short time ago. He leaves two sisters, Mrs. Raymond H. Gaier and Miss Gretta Spang; and a brother, Fred Spang, all of this city. Mrs. Margaret Brennan, 67, Of 1 W. North St. Dies --Injuries received when she was struck by an automobile Tuesday morning resulted in the death of Mrs. Margaret Brennan, 67, of 1 W. North st., at 3:35 p.m. Wednesday at the City Hospital, where she had been a patient since the accident. Mrs. Brennan, who was employed as a cook at a local cafeteria, was struck by a car driven by Pearl Thomas of South Charleston, while she was crossing the intersection at Main and Limestone sts. Following the accident she was removed to her home and later taken to the hospital. Born in Clark County, Mrs. Brennan had spent practically all her life here. She made her home with Mr. and Mrs. Harry Records, Mrs. Records being her daughter. She was a member of the St. Raphael Church. The body was removed to the O'Brien funeral home.

Clarence E. WHITE, 51, died unexpectedly at 12:20 p.m. Sunday at his home, 26 S. Wittenburg Ave. He had been ill only a short while. Mr. WHITE was born in Clark County and had spent most of his life here. He was a member of Golden Rod Council No. 146, Junior Order of the United American Mechanics. BUSINESS MAN TAKEN BY DEATH. S. C. DIGAN, 54, Succumbs at His Home, 1230 S. Limestone St. S. C. DIGAN, 54, proprietor of the S. C. DIGAN Cleaning and Dyeing Establishment on E. High Street died at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at his home, 1230 S. Limestone Street. Mr. DIGAN had been in failing health for several years. His condition became more serious a week ago. His unexpected death will come as a great shock to his scores of friends and acquaintances, to whom it will also bring sincere sorrow. When his condition became critical a week ago, a consultation of physicians was held, and it was believed that he would rally favorably. The turning point in his illness came about 3 a.m. Tuesday. Mr. DIGAN was one of Springfield's well known business men, having been in the dry cleaning and dyeing business for almost a quarter of a century. His business had been located at various places on High Street had been conducted there for the last 15 years. Born in Springfield, Mr. DIGAN lived here his entire life. He received his education in the St. Raphael School, and was also a devout member of the St. Raphael Church and the Holy Name Society of the church. He was also affiliated with Springfield Council No. 624 Knights of Columbus; the Fraternal Order of Eagles, and the Moose Lodge. Fifteen years ago next July, Mr. DIGAN was married to Miss Nelle DOOLAN of this city, who survives him. Besides his widow, he leaves three children, Mary Abigail, Jeanne and Thomas James DIGAN; his father, Thomas DIGAN of Pittsburgh, Pa.; two sisters, Miss Helen M. DIGAN and Mrs. Alex SCHAEFER, both of Pittsburgh; his aunt, Mrs. Annie KELLY of Springfield; and two cousins, Mrs. James N. ROBINSON and James S. KELLY, both of this city.

Mrs. Maria HORNICK, 62, of South Charleston, O., died at 9 p.m. Monday in Dayton, where she had been a patient since June. She had been in poor health for the last year. The body was taken to South Charleston to the home of her mother, Mrs. Thomas HENRY, where she lived. Funeral services will be held at 9 a.m. Thursday at St. Charles Church in that place. Burial will be made in Xenia, O. Mrs. HORNICK at one time lived in Yellow Springs, O., and later in Xenia. After the death of her husband, Christopher HORNICK, she went to South Charleston to live wit her moth. Besides her mother, she leaves a daughter, Miss Regina HORNICK of Dayton; a half-sister, Mrs. George S. GRAHAM of Xenia; and a half-brother, John W. HENRY of Springfield.

David Edwin WEST, 52, of Route 8, Rebert Pike, died suddenly Tuesday at his home. Coroner Theodore F. Schaefer, who was called to investigate the death, gave a verdict of probable heart injury caused by over exertion. Mr. WEST, who was a farmer and janitor at the Oak Grove School house on the Fairfield Pike, was taken ill Monday while endeavoring to crank and engine controlling the light plant at the school. Tuesday morning when he got up he complained of the same illness, and a short time afterwards died suddenly.

DEAR, EVILSIZER Name of Newspaper is Daily News, Springfield, OH on Monday, February 10, 1930

The body of John DEAR, 88 years old, was found lying in Cedar Creek, near Bowlusville, about a mile from his home, at 8 a.m. Monday by one of a group of a dozen neighbors who instituted a search when relatives found his bed unoccupied Monday morning. It was only the third time in the last 10 years that Mr. DEAR has left the farm on which he resided. Bowlusville is north of Springfield. When Warder DEAR, a son, and Frank EVILSIZER, a son-in-law, did not see Mr. DEAR in his bed at 5 a.m., they started searching and later called neighbors for assistance. The two men, together with EVILSIZER's wife, who is a daughter of Mr. DEAR, live in the farm house, located on the River rd., one-half mile west of Bowlusville. It is not known at what hour he left home. The body was found lying in the creek at a bridge on the County Line rd., which separates Clark and Champaign Counties. He was found in Champaign County. Members of the family reported that he has not been in unusually poor health, and that he seemingly had no undue cause for worry. He has lived in the Bowlusville neighborhood all of his life. In addition to his son, Warder, and his daughter, Mrs. Mabel EVILSIZER, who lived at home, he is survived by a grandson, Russell DEAR, of Dayton. Mr. DEAR is said to be the last Civil War veteran to apply for a pension, never having been willing to accept money from the government until about two months ago. He made application at that time and received his first check about a month ago. He served with the Union forces for 34 months, with Co. I, 44th Ohio Infantry, and later with the Eighth Ohio Cavalry. Funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday from the EVILSIZER home, with burial in the DEAR private cemetery, located on the farm.

John WREN, 74, one of this city's respected citizens, died at his residence, 930 S. Fountain av., at 3:15 p.m. Tuesday. Mr. WREN was born at his ancestral home at Littor House, County Kerry, Ireland, on June 24, 1855, the son of Thomas and Mary ENIGHT WREN. He came to America in 1872, and was one of the 11 survivors of the transatlantic tragedy of the steamship "Atlantic" which was sunk off the coast of Newfoundland with a loss of over nine hundred lives, the greatest sea disaster to the date. He came to Lancaster, O., where he was associated in business with the firm of Wren & O'Neil, the former being his brother, the late Edward WREN of this city. Mr. WREN cam to Springfield in 1877 where he established his own dry goods store .with success for many years. Mr. WREN was married to Miss Iceline KERN of Cardington, O., on Feb. 5, 1877 and two children were born to them, John Thomas, deceased in 1898 and George H., now living in this city. Besides the widow and son, two grandchildren, Mary I. and Thomas WREN survive him. For twenty years Mr. WREN was associated with the Edward WREN Co., retiring two years ago on account of ill health. Mr. WREN was a gentleman of the old school, genial and beloved by a host of friends. He loved the great outdoors and was a great horselover. He was the owner of the great world's champion of her day, the famous "Jenny Wren". He was probably the best known man in the dog world by reason of his ownership of the famous Mad River Kennels here where he developed many of the show-winning fox terriers of his day. His reputation as a judge of this breed brought to him a world-wide distinction and for many years he presided in that capacity at the Madison Square Kennel shows in New York. He was a great friend of the late August BELMONT of New York, their love for high-class dogs being commonground of likemindedness. The funeral will be held at St. Raphael Church at 9 a.m. Friday and burial will be made in this city.

His wife preceded him in death just one year ago, and during the present year he sustained the loss of his son, the late S.C. DIGAN, and his sister, Mrs. Anna KIGAN KELLY, both of Springfield. He leaves two daughters, Mrs. Alex SHAFFER and Miss Helen DIGAN, both of Pittsburgh; and two brothers, John H. DIGAN of this city, and James F. DIGAN of Logansport, Inc.; besides a nephews, James S. ACCIDENTAL DEATH VERDICT IS GIVEN Coroner Finds Victim Slipped On Structure and Fell On Head Joseph UNDERWOOD, 40 of 410 May st., met accidental death at 6:10 a.m. Saturday when he fell off of Bridge No. 294 at the Sandusky division Big Four crossing at McCreight av., causing a fracture of his skull. Underwood, who was employed a a labor boss at the Robbins and Myers, Inc. plant, was on his way to work, and was walking along the right of way of the railroad, when he slipped and fell from the bridge. James WEST, 310 May st., also an R. and M. employee, witnessed the tragedy. Patterson's ambulance was called by WEST. Upon finding the man dead, Coroner Theodore F. SCHAEFER was summoned. Mr. Schaefer pronounced death due to a fractured skull resulting from the accidental causes. The body was taken to the Patterson funeral home. Mr. UNDERWOOD had lived in Springfield for the last seven years, coming here from Terre Haute, Ind. He was a member of Champion Lodge, F. and A. M., and Mr. Zion Church of this city. Surviving him are his widow, Mrs. Willie UNDERWOOD of 806 Dilbert av.; his father, George UNDERWOOD of Evansville, Ind.; and a niece, Gladys MORROW of Evansville.

Mrs Mary E Boolman, 86, for many years a resident of Clark County, was found dead at 7:30 am Monday at her home in Clifton. Coroner Theodore F Schaefer was called and attributed the death to apoplexy. Mrs Boolman lived alone, being cared for by a son living next door. The body was discovered by the granddaughter who went to the house Monday morning. She was the widow of a Civil War veteran and for many years was a devoted member of the Methodist Church. Three children survive her. They are; Mrs Edna GRAM and Lewis BOOLMAN of Springfield, and L.W. BOOLMAN of Clifton. She also leaves two step-sons, Frank BOOLMAN of Indianapolis, and Harry BOOLMAN of Greenville, O, and 10 grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 pm Wednesday at the residence. Burial will be made in Clifton Cemetery.

She was born August 10, 1884, and had lived all of her life in or near Clifton. Mrs Boolman was a member of the Methodist Church formerly here. Survivors are her husband; two daughters, Mrs Esther VAN ATTA of Akron and Mrs Helen SNYDER of Springfield; and three sisters Mrs Fred STRETCHER of Yellow Springs, and Mrs Omer SPARROW and Mrs Bert HOPPING, both of Clifton. The body will remain in the residence until the time of the funeral there at 2 pm Monday. Burial will be made in Clifton Cemetery.
