Mrs. Belle KIRKPATRICK, 88, formerly of 1706 Kenton St., died at 6:20 p.m. Saturday in the I.O.O.F. Home. Death followed a brief illness. She was born Aug 8, 1886, in Jackson, the daughter of George and Fannie CLAAR GAST. She was retired from Robbins & Myers, Inc. She was a charter member of Story-Hypes United Methodist Church. Survivors are a daughter, Mrs. Harry (Helen) GARBER of Springfield, a son, Leonard C. KIRKPATRICK of Mississippi, a sister Mrs. Helen CLARK of Jackson, two grandsons, Lee and Larry GARBER of Springfield, four grandchildren of Mississippi, seven great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Her husband, Hiram, died Aug 19, 1941. Her body was removed to the Jones Funeral Home.

Mrs. Neppie R. WHITTINGTON, 106, of 2345 Shawnee Blvd., died at 5 a.m. Thursday in her residence following seven years of failing health. In an interview on her birthday last year Mrs. Whittington attributed her longevity to a "combination of hard work, and faith." She was born Nov. 26, 1868, near Burketsville, Md., the daughter of Henry and Sarah MINNICK BYERMAN. She was a member of Covenant Presbyterian Church, the Philathea Class and the Women's Sewing Guild of the church. On Jan. 25, 1893, she married Benjamin T. WHITTINGTON, who died June 28, 1952, at the age of 85. A daughter and two sons are deceased. Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Elmer P. (Gladys) COOL, with whom she resided and Mrs. Bertha BARCLAY of Springfield; three grandchildren; five great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was the last survivor of her family. Her body was taken to the Littleton Funeral Home. There will be no visitation. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday in the funeral home in the charge of Rev. Harry C. Fox, pastor St. Luke Lutheran Church. Burial will be in Ferncliff Cemetery.

He was a retired employee of the International Harvester Co where he worked 48 years. Mr. VERMILLION was born in Lawrence County march 20, 1893, a son of William and Jane BLAGG VERMILLION. He lived in Springfield most of his life. Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Wayne ROBERTS; two granddaughters, Wendy Ann and Karen Louise ROBERTS, all of Springfield; and one half-brother, Orville DINNEN of Ironton, [Oh]. His wife Ruth Evelyn, died last Jan 17. Mr. VERMILLION's body was taken to the Richards Memorial Home where friends may call from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 pm Sunday. Services will be held at 1:30 pm Monday in the memorial home with burial in Ferncliff Cemetery.

Mrs. STEWART, 91, had lived in Clark County from 1910 to 1949, and leaves a son, John STEWART of 6069 Yeazell rd. She was born in Waterloo, O, on Aug 19, 1883, the daughter of William B and Ella BAKER WILSON. She had been a member of the First Baptist Church in Ironton. Her husband, Harley, died in 1959. Her survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Robert MCDONALD of Bellefontaine, Mrs. Wayne ANDERSON of Dunedin, Fla, and Mrs. Floyd STEWART of Ironton. Another daughter, Ruth, died in infancy. She also leaves two brothers, Hobart and John WILSON, both of Gallipolis, and two sisters, Mrs. Irene LAMBERT of Ironton, and Mrs. Jose WISEMAN of Waterloo. Mrs. STEWART's body was taken to the Phillips Funeral Home in Ironton, where friends may call Sunday. Funeral services are to be held Monday in the funeral home. Survivors include three sons, Leo J. of South Vienna, Eugene F. of Springfield and Robert E. of Cleveland; five grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was a member of the U.S. Army World War I Veterans organization. Mr. Sites is a retired employe of Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, having completed 23 years of service there in 1959. Survivors in addition to his wife, Flossie, are five daughters, Mrs. Raymond (Rosslyn) STULTZ and Mrs. Kenneth (Madge) BROCKMAN, both of Phoenix, Ariz.; Mrs. Melvin (Margaret) STAGGS of Enon and Mrs. Richard (Anna) STUCKEY and Mrs. Wayne (Helen) VANWEY, both of Springfield; a son, Robert of Fairborn; 25 grandchildren and 37 great-grandchildren. She was born in Springfield, March 30, 1892 to George C. and Ida M. DAILEY RHODERICK. During the depression, she worked as a supervisor for Miller-Frock Co. From l942-l957 she worked at Sears, Roebuck and Co., and then at Wittenberg University Bookstore following retirement. She was a life member of First Lutheran Church of Springfield, a member of American Assn. of Retired Persons, Lewis Senior Center, and Zion Lutheran Church. She lived most of her life in the Springfield area. She was very active and enjoyed camping. Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. John (Phyllis Ann) REINHEIMER, Wooster; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Walter (Harriet) LARSON of Toledo. Her husband, Arthur, died in 1957. A sister also died previously.

An autopsy was to be performed Saturday to determine the official cause of death of James WHITACRE, 21, of 2750 Wellsford Lane, who was found dead of gunshot wounds in his home late Friday night. According to police reports, the gunshot wounds apparently were self-inflicted. A small caliber rifle was found near the body in a basement utility room. The man's body was discovered by his girlfriend and a friend of hers about 9:30 Friday night. They summoned a Fire Division emergency squad to the scene, but WHITACRE was dead when squad men arrived. The victim is the son of Robert W. WHITACRE of the Wellsford lane address. The Conroy Funeral Home is in charge of service. He was born in Springfield, October 20, 1953, the son of Robert and Mary Ann MOORMAN WHITACRE, and was a life resident of Springfield. A 1972 graduate of Catholic Central High School, he was a student at the University of Cincinnati. He was a member of St. Teresa Church. Survivors include his father and stepmother, Mrs. And Mrs. Robert WHITACRE; a sister, Mrs. Terry (Debra) CANARD of Cincinnati; two brothers, Thomas of Springfield and Mark at home; a step-sister, Mrs. Karen WILLIAMSON and a stepbrother, Rick KEPLER, both of Springfield, and one niece. Although Mr. RANKIN suffered an extended illness resulting from physical disability sustained during World War I in France, death came unexpectedly. He served with the Medical Corps overseas for two and one half years. Mr. RANKIN was born in Springfield, September 20, 1893, the son of Harry M., former Springfield Fire Department Captain, and Anna RITTER RANKIN. A graduate of Springfield High School, he played on the school football team in 1912-13-14. Survivors include her husband, Ellsworth; one daughter Mrs Phyllis HUFFMAN of Denver, a son, Lawrence BURDEN of Denver; two sisters Mrs Clara BLACK of Springfield, and Mrs Virginia ALLENDER of Denver; two brothers, Paul D THOMPSON of Oakland, CA, Norman THOMPSON of Springfield; her mother, Mrs Delma THOMPSON of Springfield; and five grandchildren. Her body was taken to the Jackson, Lytle and Coffman Funeral Home where services will be conducted at 2 pm Wednesday, the Rev Beverdean F Owens officiating. Burial will be in Mt Calvery Cemetery, Tremont.
