Page 1 & 8. Four persons were killed in area vehicle collisions on Monday. A local man, James G FIFE, of 417 N Yellow Springs st, was killed when the truck he was driving was struck by a train just after 1 pm Monday, [...] Fife, 43 was pronounced dead at the scene of the mishap at the Detroit, Toledo and Ironton Railroad crossing on St Paris pike. FIFE was driving a dumpster for the Kasle Steel Compressing Co, 1002 S Burnett rd, when an 80-car freight slammed into him, spinning the truck around and knocking it some 100 feet into a cornfield. According to Lt John Loney of the Clark County Sheriff's Dept, the impact of the collision tore the truck apart, ripping off both the bed and the front end, and throwing FIFE out (see Four Killed on page 8) the window of the driver's door. [...] FIFE was born in Gallia County, O, on June 29, 1935, the son of Gerald and Thelma WALLS FIFE, but had been a resident of Springfield and Clark County for most of his life. He was a veteran of the Korean War and was a member of VFW Post No 1031, the Fraternal Order of Eagles and the Union Club. He is survived by his wife, Bonnie RADER FIFE; his parents; a son, Chris, and a daughter, Mrs. Steven (Julie) ADAMS; a brother, Victor FIFE, and a sister, Mrs. Ronald (Peggy) SHROYER, and a grandson, all of Springfield. Mrs. Eva E. WEISHEIMER, 70, of 1910 E. High St., died unexpectedly at 9 a.m. Tuesday in Mercy Medical Center. She was a graduate of the Community Hospital School of Nursing, a former employee of Community Hospital and a 15 year employee in the pharmacy of mercy Medical Center. A life resident of Clark County, she was born March 9, 1908, a daughter of C. A. and B. Anna LUTZ ARGABRIGHT. She was a member of the First United Church of Christ and the Home City Chapter No. 258, OES. Survivors include a sister, Mrs. Fred (Ruth) SHOOK, Troy, and a nephew. Services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. in the Littleton Funeral Home by Dr. Kenneth Murphy, pastor of the First United Church of Christ. Burial will be in Glen Haven Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Faith B. SMITH, 81, died at 7:47 P.m. Tuesday in the Rickly Hospital of the Ohio Masonic Home. She was born Sept 17, 1897 in Cleveland and entered the Masonic Home on Sept 25, sponsored by George A. Holly Lodge No. 745, F& A.M. of Willoughby, Ohio. Mrs. SMITH is survived by two sons, David S. SMITH of Shaker Heights, and Stiles C. SMITH III of Sandusky. her body was taken to the Woods-Allgier Funeral Home for cremation. There will be no calling hours, Services and burial are scheduled Monday in Mentor, Ohio.

She was born in Suitor, O, May 17, 1894, a daughter of Eli and Mary DILLON ROACH. Her husband, Carl, died in October of 1973. She was a member of the St Paris First Baptist Church and of the auxiliary of Keith Cretor's American Legion Post 148, here. Survivors include three sons, Warren K of Fairborn, Carl, Jr of Enon, and Harry L of Van Wert; 8 grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. The Rev Lynn Roberson, pastor, will conduct services at 1 pm Monday in the First Baptists Church, here. Burial will be in Honey Creek Cemetery , Christiansburg. Survivors include four sons, William of New Carlisle, Eddie of London, Lester of Lucas, and Melvin of Mansfield; three daughters, Mrs. Josephine WINTERS and Mrs. Mildred TAMBURRINO, both of Mansfield, and Mrs. Betty THOMAN of Columbus; three sisters, Mrs. Tera SMITH of Athens, Ala., Mrs. Ethel NORWOOD of Leesburg, Fla., and Mrs. Naomi ROBERTS of Toledo, 24 great-grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Burial followed in Greenland Cemetery in Perrysville.

Home J. BAGFORD, 81, of 3738 Cloverdale Drive, Medway, died at 1 a.m. Wednesday in Mercy Medical Center where he had been a patient for the past two weeks. He was born on February 21, 1897 in Osborn in Green County (now known as Fairborn), the son of John and Della WILSON BAGFORD. He was a retired plant protection employee at the Frigidaire Corp. in Dayton. He was a member of new Carlisle Lodge No. 100, F. and AM. and the Fairborn Junior Order of United American mechanics. Survivors include his wife, Kathleen; one son, David, of New Carlisle; two sisters, Mrs. George (Martha) BOWMAN and Mrs. Fred (Catherine) BOBO, both of Springfield, and two grandchildren. His body was removed to the Trostel-Chapman Funeral Home in New Carlisle where friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday. Services are scheduled for 1 p.m. Friday in the funeral home with the Rev. Ralph L. WAGNER, 83, of 1902 Lexington av., died at 5 p.m. Saturday in Mercy Medical Center after a lengthy illness. He was born in Urbana, O., on July 31, 1895, the son of Leonard and Emma BALTE WAGNER and had resided in Springfield most of his life. He had been employed as a supervisor for the Ohio Steel Foundry Co. for 36 years before retiring in 1965. Following that retirement he worked in occupational therapy at the Ohio Masonic Home from 1967 until 1971. He was a member of Central Christian Church, St. Andrews Lodge No. 619 Shawnee Chapter no. 237, the Palestine Commandery No. 33, and the Antioch Shrine. He is survived by his wife, Wave M. WAGNER, and a son, Rex L. WAGNER, of Mansfield, O. His body was taken to the Conroy Funeral Home

Mr. BALLENTINE was born in Springfield March 23, 1898, a son of John and Christina BALLENTINE and had resided here his entire life. He retired from the White Motor Co. in 1961 and was a member of International Association of Machinists Local 155, Clark Lodge No. 101 F. and A.M. and Calvary Baptist Church. He was the last member of his immediate family. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy JUSTICE BALLENTINE; one step-son, William E. LEMLEY, stationed in Indonisia; three step-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Arrangements are pending at the Richards Memorial Home.

She was born Sept. 22, 1887, in Union City, Ind., a daughter of Charles and Lucille SPRING GUNCKEL. Miss GUNCKEL was a member of the Urbana united Methodist Church and came to Urbana in 1932 after serving 20 years as art supervisor in Union City Schools. She resided in Urbana until 1972 when she moved to New Jersey. Survivors include one nephew, James E. GUNCKEL, Somerville, N.J.; a niece, Joan ESCHELMAN, Celina. Her body was brought to Walter Funeral Home, Urbana. There will be no visitation. Her body will be taken to the Urbana united Methodist Church one hour prior to services which will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday.

Carl E. BAGFORD, 63, of 1119 Redbud ln., died unexpectedly at 7:50 p.m. Tuesday in mercy Medical Center. He was born Aug. 11, 1915, in Spring Valley, a son of Clarence E. and Carrie JENSON BAGFORD. He was a member of the Springfield Polka Band and the 44th Ohio Volunteer infantry. He had been employed the past 38 years at the Speco Division of Kelsey-Hayes Co. Survivors include his wife, Margaret PHILLIPS BADFORD; a daughter, Mrs. Donna SPENCE; a son, Rodney L., both of Springfield, and two granddaughters. Two children, Tina Marie and Carl, Jr., are dead. He was born December 24, 1904, in Cleveland, the son of John William and Della MCKEEVER, and spent winters in Weslaco, Texas, and summers in Dyers Bay, Ontario, Canada. He was a candidate for Greene County Commission in the 1960s and his memberships included the Salvation Army board and Kiwanis Club of Xenia. He married the former Leona BUTLER, a Springfield native, in 1935. Surviving besides his wife are a daughter, Pam MCKEEVER CURTIS of Trotwood; a son, Victor MCKEEEVER of Xenia; three grandchildren; a sister, Lenora MCKEEVER of Urbana, and two brothers, William of Westville and Robert of Springfield. Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at McColaugh Funeral Home, Xenia, by the Rev. Gordon Kester of Westminster Church. Buruial will be in Woodland Cemetery. In addition to her husband she is survived by two sons, Raymond D. and Thomas L. both of Piqua; one daughter Mrs. Orville FRANCIS (Patrica) of Piqua; four brothers, Robert YOUNT of Eaton, Samuel YOUNT of Bradenton, Fla.; Richard and Carl YOUNT of Bradford; seven grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. One daughter, Esther, two brothers and two sisters preceded her in death. Services will be held Thursday at 1 p.m. in Jamieson Funeral Home, 333 W. High St., with the Dr. Robert Sinks officiating. A 26-year-old Springfield man was found dead this morning in an automobile behind his 1829 Summit St. residence. Dennis NANCE was found lying across the front seat of a parked automobile about 9 am today. Police, including officers from the crime lab, Fire Division paramedics, and Rick Dunbar of the Clark County Coroner's office were called to the scene. A Fire Division report said the ignition of the automobile was off when the body was found. When the Squad arrived on the scene at 9:24, no vital signs could be detected.
