Mrs. Inez Wert died late Sunday night at her home, six miles west of Springfield. She leaves her husband, Earnest Wert, and one son, James. She is also survived by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. James A. Keplinger, and the following sisters; Miss Minnie Keplinger, at home; Miss Blanche Keplinger, of Dayton; Mrs. Fern Overholser, of near Lawrenceville, and Mrs. Rebecca Kerns of Miamisburg. The funeral will be held at the residence at 1-:30 a.m., Wednesday. Burial will be made in Vale cemetery.

Martin Hornberger, 55, died Sunday afternoon at his home, 226 E. College av. He had been ill for two months. Mr. Hornberger was born in Germany. He was a machinist by trade. Mrs. Cora ILIFF, 85, died Tuesday night at the home of her son, George ILIFF, in Clifton. She was born in Clifton and had lived there all her life. She was a member of the Methodist Episcopal church at Clifton. Besides the son at whose home she died, she leaves four daughters, Mrs. Sarah ????? and Mrs. A. S. BOWEN both of Clifton; Mrs. Jessie BAKER of Kansas and Mrs. Edith RANDALL of Cedarville.

Mrs. Margaret DESORMOUX, 73, died Wednesday morning at her home in the King building. She had been in failing health for a year. Mrs. DESORMOUX was a woman of generous and lovable character, always ready to help those in need. Mrs. DESORMOUX as born in West Virginia. She had lived in this city since a young woman. She was a member of the Central Methodist Episcopal church. Mrs. DESORMOUX leaves two sons, Harvey of this city and Charles of Milwaukee.

The body will be brought to this city for funeral and burial.

Mrs William H GROVES, 84, died Monday morning at her home, 5 E North St. She was born in Champaign County, two miles east of Urbana, Feb 12, 1839. Mrs Groves had lived in Springfield since 1873. She was a devoted member of the United Brethren Church in Lagonda. She was the last of her family. She leaves three sons, William Forest of Kansas, Clifford Neal and Charles R, both of Springfield. The body was taken to the home of Mrs Groves son, Charles R, 123 N Fountain Ave, where funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2pm. Burial will be made in Ferncliff Cemetery. Both funeral and burial will be private. Friends may view the body between 9 and 11 am Wednesday.

Burns Result In Death Of Woman. Mrs. Isabelle MARSHALL, 79, of 311 Stanton Avenue, died Thursday night at the city hospital. Her death resulted from burns received February 18, when her clothing caught fire from a gas heater at her home. Mrs. MARSHALL was a member of the Covenant Presbyterian church. She leaves no relatives. The body was removed to the Jackson funeral parlors, where funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday. Burial will be made in Ferncliff Cemetery.

BURKHARDT, KILE, REIBOLD Name of Newspaper is Daily News, Springfield, OH on Friday, April 27, 1923

John R. BURKHARDT, 63, died at his home, 126 North Bell Avenue, Thursday at 10 p.m. following an illness of 11 months. Cancer of the stomach was given as the cause of his death. Mr. BURKHARDT was a native of Switzerland and came to Springfield about 40 years ago from Paris, France. He was a member of Goethe lodge, 331, of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows and also a member of the St. John Evangelical church. He is survived by his wife, three sons, Rudolph, Cark and Julius BURKHARDT, all of Springfield; three daughters, Mrs. Charles REIBOLD, Mrs. William KILE and Miss Kathryn BURKHARDT, also of Springfield. Funeral services will be held at the residence Monday afternoon at an hour to be announced later.

Mrs. Martha BUCHWALTER. Luther WAHL, 18 East Grube Road, has received word of the death of his sister, Mrs. Martha A. BUCHWALTER, aged 76, who died at her home in Hallsville, Ohio, Thursday at 7:30 p.m. Death was due to heart trouble, according to work received by her brother. Mrs. BUCHWALTER had been a life-long resident of Hallsville and was a member of the Methodist church of that town. She is survived by her brother, Luther WAHL, of Springfield; one son, Frank BUCHWALTER, of Hallsville, and one daughter, Mrs. Albert MAGG, also of Hallsville. The funeral services will be held at the home in Hallsville, Saturday, at 1:30 p.m. Burial will be made in the Hallsville cemetery.

Main at Monday afternoon at 3 O'clock. Burial will be made in Nettle Creek Cemetery, south of Westville.

Jacob BAKER, 89, a retired farmer, died Monday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. George SULTZBAUGH, in the Urbana Road. He was born in Maryland. Mr. BAKER was a member of the First Lutheran Church and of the Junior Order of United American Mechanics lodge of this city. He leaves the daughter at whose home he died, another daughter, Mrs. Anna YOUNG, of Springfield, and three sons, H. C. BAKER of Cleveland, C.M.F. BAKER and I.S. BAKER, both of Clark County, besides 17 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2:30 p.m. at the First Lutheran Church. Burial will be made in Ferncliff.

Page 1, col. 2 [edited]. DEATH OF MRS. GERLAUGH'S FATHER. Mr. and Mrs. Arthur GERLAUGH were recently called to Springfield, Ohio, on account of the death of Mrs. Gerlaugh's father, Mr. C. J. BUTT. We quote from a Springfield newspaper the following account of his death and brief sketch of his life: Heart disease caused the death on Saturday of C. J. Butt, 75, of 460 E. Cassilly St. Mr. BUTT had been resident of Springfield for the past five years and had been a traveling salesman for the American Seeding Machine Co., for 30 years. Eleven years ago he was placed on the pension list. He was a former mayor of Osborn, O., and had served on the city council of that place for 25 years, and was on the Republican central committee of Greene county for some time. Mr. Butt was a member of the Evangelican Lutheran church of Osborn and on the I. O. O. F. lodge of that town. He also belonged to the United Commercial Travelers. Mr. Butt was twice married. In 1887 he was married to Margaretta MARSHALL, and three children were born to them of whom two died. Following the death of his first wife, Mr. Butt married Cora Arbogast who survives him with one or two children born to the union. The survivors are his wife and Miss Lella Butt and Mrs. Arthur Gerlaugh of Martinsville, Va. Funeral services will be conducted at the residence Monday. A second service will be held at the Beaver Reformed church in Xenia. Burial will be made in Beaver cemetery.

Word has been received of the death of Charles Robert Hill, 33, as former resident of this city, Tuesday afternoon at his home in Toledo. He died of pneumonia. Miss Marjorie MYERS, 27, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. He. E. MYERS of the National pike, died Thursday morning at the home of her parents. Miss MYERS was a young woman of sterling character, a devoted church worker and a faithful friend. She was born in Springfield. Miss MYERS graduated from the Springfield High School and also the Williss Business University. Later she became a teacher in the commercial department of the Williss School and at the time of her death was bookkeeper for the Carter garage. She was a member of the Central Methodist Episcopal Church and took and enthusiastic part in its activities. She also belonged to the Ivor Rebekah Lodge, No. 415. Miss MYERS leaves her parents, Mr. and Mrs. H. E. MYERS, and three sisters, Mrs. Dwight WIANT of Springboro, O., and Mrs. Ralph AGLE of Plattsburg and Miss Jean MYERS, living at home. Former Employe of News is Dead. Orville MCLAUGHLIN Pass Away At Dayton Sanitarium. Orville C. MCLAUGHLIN, 44, former member of The Springfield News reportorial staff, died Monday morning at Still water sanitarium, Dayton, after along illness. MCLAUGHLIN came to Springfield from Dayton, where he had been a newspaperman for 10 years. An attack of pleurisy suffered several weeks ago aggravated lung trouble of long standing and resulted in his death. For a number of years MCLAUGHLIN was court reported for The Dayton News and other newspapers in that city. For several months he was also employed on The Springfield News. He came there from Portland, Ind., his home, where he had been city editor of a paper. MCLAUGHLIN was an honor graduate of the University of Indiana law school, but had never practiced steadily as an attorney, although he was a member of both the Ohio and Indiana bars. He is survived by his wife, Alice E. MCLAUGHLIN, and two children, who are living in Englewood, near Dayton, and his father in Portland.

C. R. MALOWNEY Taken by Death... Department Head of Local Plant Dies Sunday Afternoon.... Charles R. MALOWNEY, 40, manager of one of the departments at Crowell Publishing Company died at 5:05 p.m. at his home, 1518 S. Limestone Street. He had been ill for about one year. Mr. MALOWNEY had been born and reared in Springfield and had lived in this city all his life. He was well liked by all her knew him. He had always taken part in the activities of fostered by the Champion Aerie of Eagles of which he was a member. Besides this lodge, he belonged to Springfield Lodge No 51, Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, Springfield Council, Knights of Columbus and St. Raphael's Church. He had been employed by the Crowell Publishing Company Plant for the past 15 years. For several years he had been manager of one of the (pattern) departments. Elizabeth W. GAZAWAY, 69 died at her home, 926 West North Street, at 3:30 a.m. Wednesday following a stroke of paralysis. She had been ill about four months. She was a member of the North Street A.M.E. church and Household of Ruth No. 623, woman's lodge of the colored Odd Fellows. She is survived by her husband, Rev. John W. Mary Florence HORNEY, 24, died at the home of her parents, Mr and Mrs T.P. HORNEY, 351 E High St, Tuesday at 9:35 pm following an illness of about a year. Death was due to nephritis. She was a member of the Clifton Ave ME Church, having attended that church for many years. She was a life long resident of the city, having been born and reared here. She is survived by her parents and one brother and sister, Homer H HORNEY, Johnson City, TN, and Audrey HORNEY of this city.

John Park KUNKLE, 46, of 414 Stanton Ave, died at 4:10 am Saturday at the City Hospital. An operation was performed on Mr Kunkle earlier in the week in an effort to save his life. Mr Kunkle was a public accountant and was employed in the offices of William Grimm. He was born in Lancaster, PA. He was a member of the Clark Lodge, Free and Accepted Masons, and of Ingomar Lodge, Knights of Pythias. He was affiliated with the First Lutheran Church. He leaves his wife, Mrs Eleanor BOOLMAN KUNKLE, and two children, Ruth and Edwin; two sisters, Mrs Frank SMITH of this city and Mrs Anna ROBINSON of Pasadena, CA, besides a brother, Elwood KUNKLE also of Pasadena. The body was removed to the Jackson Mortuary and will later be taken to Mr Kunkle's home.

She was a native of Kentucky, had been a resident of Springfield 24 years and had been ill for five years. She was a member of North Street A.M.E. Church. Besides her son at whose home she died, she leaves a daughter, Mrs Mary Belle CRAWFORD, of Detroit; three granddaughters, Mrs R.M. SWAYNE of Springfield; Mrs Mabel BEATTY and Mrs Minnie SMITH of Detroit; one sister, Mrs Ella PENCE, Chaplin, KY, and two brothers, Charles SELECTMAN, Lexington KY, and George W SELECTMAN of Oklahoma. The body was removed to Burns Funeral Home but will be returned to the late home some time Sunday.

WILDASINN Name of Newspaper is Inyo Register, Bishop, CA on Thursday, December 27, 1923

Charles Fell WILDASINN, pioneer lumberman and rancher of this county, died last night at his home in Bishop. He had been in precarious health for some time, but on Christmas day was able to be on the streets. The end came suddenly, for he fell while walking about in his home. He was born in Springfield, Ohio, October 31, 1840, therefore was aged 83 years, 1 month, 25 days. He came west at an early age, and is said to have crossed the plains no less than eighteen times before the advent of the railroad. He came to Owens Valley in 1870, and became a resident of Round Valley. When Mammoth became a camp he went there and operated a sawmill, continuing that business for some years after the camp's decline. Finally he sold both his sawmill and ranch properties, and moved to Bishop. Besides putting up a commodious --me here, he built what is now the Bishop Theatre, later disposing of that also. Mr. Wildasinn was one of the early members of the Odd Fellows here, and was also a member of the Masonic bodies up to and including the Mystic Shrine, receiving the latter during a pilgrimage to the city of Mexico. He was a citizen of high character and rigid financial honesty, and leaves a memory that will be cherished by those who came in contact with him. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Nell Wildasinn, who has the profound sympathy of all friends in her bereavement. The funeral will occur from the family residence on East Line Street at 2 o'clock to-morrow (Friday) afternoon; interment at the Masonic cemetery. Charles is listed in the "Early Clark Co., Ohio Families, Vital Statistics" pg. 143, Volume 1. His father was Solomon Wildason (born about March 1816) who married on January 10, 1841 to Sarah Jane Gregory (February 16, 1816 - March 19, 1910). Charles's siblings were James K. born 1/28/1846; Lee Richmond born 7/22/1851 and Elizabeth born 7/9/1910. The 1850 German Twp., Clark Co. Census pg. 031, list his parents as Solomon and Sarah J. Willison with two additional sons: Harry 13 (born abt. 1837) and John B. Weller 2 (born abt.1848).

Word has been received in London of the death of Miss Margaret FOSTER, 82, at her home in Santa Barbara, Calif., Friday night. Miss FOSTER was born in Madison county, and for several years lived in Springfield, but about two years ago moved to California with her brother, Thomas FOSTER, and her sister Miss Sarah FOSTER, who survive her.

"D. KING GOTWALD. Funeral services of DR. D. KING GOTWALD 63, who died suddenly of heart disease Thursday evening at this home, 505 N. Fountain av., were held at the residence at 2 p.m. Monday. Burial was made at Ferncliff Cemetery. The services carried out with the Lutheran ritualistic observance and were most impressive. REV. E. G. HOWARD pastor of the Fourth Lutheran Church to which DR. GOTWALD belonged, preached the funeral service in which he eulogized the deeds of DR. GOTWALD, who was known for his fine work among the needy and poor of Springfield. DR. HOWARD was assisted by REV. B. E. GREENAWALT, a close personal friend of DR. GOTWALD. DR. GREENAWALT offered the prayers of the service. Handsome floral tributes in all of nature's choicest blooms were received in great quantity at the GOTWALD home. Hundreds of messages of condolence were also received, showing the high esteem in which DR. GOTWALD had always been held by friends in this and other cities. Pallbearers were intimate friends of DR. GOTWALD. They were: JOHN L. ZIMMERMAN, SR., DR. J. A. LINK, WILLIARD BRAIN, H. C. WISEMAN, DR. HARRY T. MILLER, and VOLNEY TROUT. DEATH OCCURS AT AGE OF 57 YEARS. He E. MYERS, Former Robbins & Myers Official, Succumbs. He E. MYERS, 57, prominent business, church and lodge man and one of the organizers of the Robbins and Myers Co. died of heart disease at 5 p.m. Sunday at his home near South Vienna, He had been ill for about two years. Mr. MYERS was active in local and state Independent Order of Odd Fellows' affairs, being one of the trustees of the grand lodge of Ohio. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. at the residence, and burial will be in Ferncliff Cemetery. Rev. Dr. J. F. Hoffman will officiate at the services. For a long period of years he was secretary of the Robbins and Myers Co., and when he retired some years ago, he became a farmer. He had lived in Springfield. He was owner of the Beaver Creek farm of 500 acres, situated in the national pike, eight miles east of the city. He was born near Jamestown, Greene County, July 27, 1866. He lived on the farm until he was 19 years of age. His first business activities was that of a bookkeeper in the Robbins and Myers Co. Subsequently he acquired an interest in the business and from 1886 to 1916 a period of thirty years, he was secretary and vice president of this corporation. He sold his interests and had been living a quiet life on his farm. He was married to Miss Mary E. GRIFFITH of this city, March 23, 1889. To this union were born five children; Mrs. Gladys WIANT, Miss Marjorie, Mrs. Dorothy AGLE, Miss Jean MYERS and Clarence MYERS. Of these children, two, Miss Marjorie and Clarence are dead. Besides his wife and children mentioned, Mr. MYERS is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Eliza GANOE and Mrs. Laura BRYAN, both of Springfield, and a brother, Frank MYERS of Xenia. Mr. MYERS was devoted member of the Central Methodist Episcopal Church. He served on the building committee, which built the present structure. He was at one time a teacher of the Women's Bible class of the church. He was a member of Anthony Lodge, no. 456 Free and Accepted Masons; thirty-second degree of Scottish Rite of Dayton, a member of Antioch Temple of the mystic Shrine at Dayton; past master and one of the trustees of Ephraim Lodge, No. 146, Independent Order of Odd Fellows; Ivor Lodge of Daughters of the Rebekahs and a member of the Mad River Encampment.

C. E. JONES Dies in City Hospital From Effects of Wound in Abdomen. Widow,Expecting Visit From Stork, Grief-Stricken Through Tragedy. Charles E. JONES, 34, lies a corpse in Jackson's Undertaking Parlors. Clyde FENT, 40, is a prisoner in County Jail, facing a charge of first degree murder. On the outskirts of Springfield, near Oesterlin Home, sits a widow with five orphaned children - the eldest 10 and expecting another visit from the stork in a few weeks. This tragic drama of real life is due to a trivial quarrel about a cow. Charles E. JONES, farmer at the Oesterlin Home, was shot down because he wanted to make his own yard a safe place of play for his own children. That's the story of J. W. SMITH, Gladison St, the only witness of the shooting. JONES was shot down in his own yard, which is directly across the road from the Oesterlin Home, at 6:15 o'clock Tuesday night. He died in City Hospital at 1:45 o'clock p.m. yesterday. The bullet which caused the his death entered his abdomen, causing internal hemorrhages. During the time he was in the hospital he had brief periods of consciousness. As the end approached JONES talked with his sobbing wife and sister, who remained at his bed side. He evidently realized that he was mortally wounded.The JONES home last night was a picture of desolation. Mrs. JONES was in despair. With Mrs. JONES were a brother and sister of the murdered man, and her five fatherless children. No tears were to be seen in her eyes, but her face bore lines of suffering.The three eldest children couldn't understand why Daddy wasn't coming home.The two youngest mere babes, were too young to realize the tragedy which had entered their humble home. "I don't know what I'm going to do," Mrs. JONES kept repeating. JONES' brother was outspoken regarding the crime. "This is cold-blooded murderand the man who killed my brother should be made to pay," he said. FENT in County Jail, did not appear to be greatly concerned when informed that the man he shot had died. Thus far he has issued no statement. Funeral arrangements will be announced.

DEATH FOLLOWS SHORT ILLNESS Mrs. Grace HATFIELD of 28 W. Southern Av. Succumbs Mrs. Grace HATFIELD, 38, wife of William E. HATFIELD, died at 7 pm Friday at the city hospital, following a short illness. She lived at 28 W. Southern Av. Mrs. HATFIELD was one of city's highly respected young women. She was born in Clinton county and had spent the greater part of her life in Springfield. Besides her husband, she leaves an infant son and her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Mark SMITH, all of this city. She was a member of the Woman's Auxiliary of the George Cultice post, American Legion. Members of the Legion Auxiliary will hold a memorial service for Mrs. HATFIELD at her home at 28 W. Southern av. Sunday evening. They will meet at the auxiliary rooms in the Legion home at 7 pm.

Mrs. Elizabeth COBERLY--better known as "Grandma"--died at the home of her grandaughter, Mrs. Dennis CLIFFORD, 135 E. North st., Wednesday morning at 9 o'clock, at the age of 99 years and a day. Mrs. COBERLY had lived in CLARK County for 93 years, 15 of which were spent at South Vienna, her home, where the body was taken Wednesday afternoon by C. F. Jackson, undertaker, for funeral services Friday norning at 10 o'clock at the South Vienna Methodist Episcopal Church, of which she had been a member for more than 80 years. Until six weeks ago Mrs. COBERLY enjoyed good health. At that time her illness was not serious and did not become precarious until three weeks ago. "Grandmother" COBERLY was born August 19, 1825, at Hagerstown, Md. She married Samuel COBERLY, who died 41 years ago. She was the mother of four children, two of whom, Mrs. Wallace ANDREWS of this city and D. U. Coberly of South Vienna, are still living. Mrs. COBERLY had 15 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Until recently Mrs. COBERLY had been a teacher in the Aged Men's Bible Class at the South Vienna Methodist Episcipal Church. Following the public funeral services in the church Friday morning, burial will be made in the Paint Township Cemetery, near London, O.
