Death followed about four months of illness. Survivors include the widow, Sally; a son, Herbert W., and a daughter, Mrs. Nellie FRANTZ, all of New Carlisle Route 2. The body was removed to Doom Bros. funeral home, but will be returned to the residence Tuesday afternoon.

The death of Cletus TOSSEY, 72, of Marysville Route 3, occurred at the home of his brother, D. F. TOSSEY at Springfield at 6:30 o'clock last night. He had been ill for the past five and one-half months suffering from a heart ailment. Born in Van Wert county, March 11, 1872, Mr. TOSSEY was the son of Zibe and Delia Ann BROWN TOSSEY. He was a retired schoolteacher, having taught for 35 years of which 34 were in Union County and one in Delaware county. He also served as a teacher examiner for ten years. He was married at Ashley in 1897 to Elsie SHAW, who survives. He was a member of the Pharisburg M. F. church. In addition to his wife, Mr. TOSSEY is survived by two sons, Gerald TOSSEY of Springfield and Cleland TOSSEY of near Ostrander; seven grandchildren; one brother, D. F. TOSSEY of Springfield and a sister, Mrs. Zella MICHAEL of Marysville. One brother, Marvin TOSSEY, is deceased. Funeral services will be held Monday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the L. H. Miller funeral home. Burial will be in Oakdale cemetery. Friends may call at the home of the son, Cleland TOSSEY, north of Ostrander on the Ostrander -Warrensburg road from Sunday noon until 10 a.m. Monday and then at the Miller funeral home. STIVERS Funeral Will Be Monday. Funeral services for Carey A. STIVERS, 62, of the Fletcher Chapel Road, will be held at 2 p.m. Monday in the Jackson-Lytle funeral home with the Rev. George H. Heizer, pastor of Grace Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Vale Cemetery. Becoming suddenly ill with a heart condition, Mr. STIVERS died en route to the Springfield City Hospital at 7:30 p.m. Friday. Mr. STIVERS was born in Sabina November 13, 1882, and resided in Springfield for approximately 35 years. A machinist by trade, he was employed for 30 years by the Mast Foos Co., and for the past five years by the Steel products Engineering Co. He is survived by his widow, Maude; two sons, Arthur M., of Springfield, and Edgar W., serving with the Third Army overseas; one daughter, Mrs. A. J. HERBY, of Springfield; two grandchildren, and two brothers, Bert C., of Hayes, Kan., and Lewis, of Collinsville, Okla.

Miss Mabel BENNINGER, 56, died in her home, 927 West Columbia Street, at 10 p.m. Friday. She was a member of the St. Mary's Church and of the Altar Society. Survivors include her sister, Mrs. Joseph JUNG, of Springfield; two brothers, Frank and Ray, both of Springfield, three nieces and none great nephew. The body was removed to the O'Brien funeral home, where friends may call Saturday evening and until time of services. The Rosary will be said at 7 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home and services will be at 9 a.m. Monday in St. Mary's Church.

Mrs. Thomas KEOGH, 82, died at 8:50 p.m. Monday in her home at 526 Scott st., following an extended illness. Mrs. KEOGH was born in Cincinnati and came to Springfield about 62 years ago. She was a member of St. Joseph Church. A widow for a number of years, she is survived by two sons, Thomas and A. D., both of Springfield. The body has been moved to O'Brien funeral home.

Funeral services for William Frank PERRIN, 90, will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in the home of his daughter, Mrs. Bertha WERST, 1204 S. Fountain av., where he died at 1:30 p.m Monday, following an illness of one week. Mr. PERRIN was born June 23, 1854, in Loganville. He had been a resident of this community for over 65 years. He was a member of the Central Methodist Church. Mr. PERRIN was an employe of the former Thomas Manufacturing Co. for 34 years, and following that he was employed by the Reed Manufacturing Co. for 17 years. He retired eight years ago. He is survived by his daughter; one son, Frank Elwood, of this city; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren, and one ...(cut off?) Jacob Geron, 68, widely known retired farmer of 823 S Main St, Urbana, died at 12:05 a.m. Tuesday in Springfield City Hospital where he had been a patient for several weeks suffering from heart disease. A native of Clark County, Mr Geron had spent most of his life in the Urbana community as a farmer, and had been a resident of Urbana for the last 23 years. He was a member of the Junior Order of United American Mechanics and of the Urbana Lutheran Church. Surviving are his widow, Martha; a son, A Everett Geron of Springfield; a brother, Phillip Geron, Springfield; a sister, Mrs Samuel Karg of Springfield, Route 3, and one grandson. The body was removed to the Humphrey funeral home where it will remain for services at 2 p.m. Thursday, with the Rev Edward Driscoll of the Urbana Lutheran Church officiating, Burial will be in Oak Dale Cemetery.

Mrs. Edith IMMEL, 68, of Chicago, formerly of Springfield, died Monday in a hospital in Kamokee, Ill., according to word received in the city. While Mrs. IMMEL resided in Springfield, she lived with her son, Thaddeus JACOBS, who died last summer. Survivors are a sister, Mrs. Jessie BEANS of Chicago; a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Betty JACOBS of Springfield, and two nieces. The body is being sent to Woods funeral home. Committal services will be conducted in Ferncliff Cemetery Thursday.

Michael O'CONNOR, 76, of 310 W. Euclid av., died at 5 a.m. Tuesday in his home. Formerly employed by the International Harvester Co. as a molder, h had been retired for the past ten years. Survivors are two sons, Raymond A. of Springfield and the Rev. John P. of St. Martin's O., and three sisters, Mrs. John FITZMARTIN, Mrs. Charles SMYTH and Sister Anthony, all of Dayton. The body was taken to the O'Brien funeral home, where it will remain until the services at 10: a.m. Friday in St. Raphael Church. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.

Forrest HAWK, 56, died at 8:10 p.m. Wednesday in his home, 282 Franklin st., after one week's serious illness. He had been in failing health for the past two years. Born Dec. 8, 1888 in Springfield, he was the son of Mr. and Mrs. John and Missouri GOINGS HAWK, He lived all of his life in Springfield and was employed as a custodian in Springfield public schools for 12 years. Surviving are his widow, Minnie M., three sons, John and Paul Edward, both of Springfield, and Chris who is with the U:.S. Army in the Philippines; four daughters, Mrs. Thelma BRICKMAN, Mrs. Elnora PATTON, Mrs. Betty JUDY, and Mrs. Mary TESCHZ, all of Springfield, two brothers, Clarence and Walter, both of Springfield, and eight grandchildren. The body was removed to the Littleton funeral home.

Mrs. Alice HOKE, 84, widow of Aaron HOKE, died at 11:30 a.m. Monday in her home at 201 N. Scott st., where she had resided for th last 28 years. She had been seriously ill for the last three months. Her husband died approximately 20 years ago. Survivors include two sons, Harry B. HOKE of New Carlisle Route 3 and J.W. HOKE of New Carlisle Route 2; four daughters, Mrs. Anna COX and Mrs. Ada STEELE of New Carlisle Route 2; Mrs. Emma BALDWIN of Dayton Route 9 and Mrs. Carl HUFFMAN, who resided with her mother; also a brother, George BUCHER of New Carlisle Route 2. The body was taken to the Doom Brothers funeral home and returned to the residence Tuesday afternoon. Services will be conducted Thursday at 2:30 p.m. in the New Carlisle Mennonite Church, of which Mrs. HOKE was an active member, with the Rev. Albert Taylor in charge. Burial will be in New Carlisle Cemetery.

Mrs. Lou BEARD, 89, mother of Charles BEARD, 581 Selma rd., died at 7:15 p. m. Monday in a nursing home on W. McCreight av. Mrs. BEARD was born in Miami County and had lived near Troy all of her life with the exception of the last two years which were spent in the home of the son in Springfield. She was the widow of Hiram BEARD, who died two years ago. In addition to her son, she is survived by four grandchildren. The body was removed to the Irvin funeral home in Troy for services at 10 a. m. Thursday. Burial will be in Riverside Ceme-tery, Troy.

Pg. 20. John T. CAMPBELL, 57, of Sugar Grove Hill, died at 5 p. m. Wednesday in the house in which he was born. Mr. CAMPBELL served 23 months in World War I with Heavy Artillery Battery D, Regiment 324. He saw action in France and Germany. He was a charter member of Iron Molders Union, Local 72, and a former employee of the Acme Pattern and Tool Co, Dayton. Mr. CAMPBELL was the son of the late John and Ellen CAMPBELL and was a member of St. Raphael Church holy Name Society. He is survived by two sisters, Misses Helen and Margaret, both of Springfield; three brothers, James, of Ft. Bragg, Calif., Joseph and Thomas of Springfield, and a number of nieces and nephews. The body was removed to the Degenhart funeral home, and taken to the residence Thursday afternoon. Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday in St. Raphael Church, with burial in Calvary Cemetery.

Funeral services for Oran Peter MITMAN, 73, who died at 10:15 p.m. Monday in his home, 723 Ardmore rd. following a four-day illness, will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday in the Littleton funeral home. The Rev. Carl Shanor, pastor of Fourth Lutheran Church, will officiate, and burial will be in Ferncliff Cemetery. Mr. MITMAN was a retired bank cashier, having worked in the Osborn Bank. While associated with the bank, he also engaged in farming. Mr. MITMAN was born February 20, 1872, in Greene County, the son of Lewis and Laura MITMAN. His grandfather, Peter MTIMAN, was a pioneer of Green County, having come from Pennsylvania in a covered wagon. Mr. MITMAN came to Springfield from Osborn 25 years ago. He was a member of Fourth Lutheran Church and was treasurer of its Sunday School for 15 years. He also was treasurer of Lutheran Oesterland Home for Children for 15 years. Mr. MITMAN was graduated from Wittenberg College in 1893, and was a member of Beta Theta Pi Fraternity. He was a member of new Carlisle Lodge No. 100, F and A.M., and the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite, Valley of Dayton. Survivors are the widow, Edith MOUK MITMAN; a daughter, Mrs. Mildred MCINTIRE of Springfield; a son, Clarence L. of Springfield, and one grandson.

John W. HAAS, 81, of 1231 Highland av., died at 6:30 a.m. Tuesday in the home of his daughter, Mrs. Florence ESTERLINE, 26. W. Southern av. Death was caused by pneumonia, after a few days illness. A resident of Springfield since 1918, Mr. HAAS had been employed at The William Bayley Co. for about 13 years as a sheet metal worker. Previous to that he was employed by the Buckeye Incubator Co. He was a member of St. Bernard Church. Survivors are two daughters, Mrs. Kenneth OSTER and Mrs. ESTERLINE, both of Springfield; three sisters, Mrs. Frances SMITH of Sedalia, Mrs. Allie BAKER of Columbus, and Mrs. Barbara GRIEB of Springfield. The body was removed to the O'Brien funeral home.

SOUTH SOLON - George CLARK, 50 died unexpectedly of a heart attack at 11:30 p.m. Monday in the family residence. Proprietor of a grocery store here for the last four years, he previously conducted a grocery business at Selma for 12 years. He was a member of the Selma Methodist Church and the JOUAM of Pitchin. For 10 years previous to going into business for himself, Mr. CLARK was a salesman for the Midland Grocery Co. of Springfield. He was a native of Ross County. Surviving are his widow, Jessie; two sons, Champ, at home, and Gail of Dayton; three sisters, Mrs. Frances MOORE of West Jefferson, Mrs. Mabel WALLY of Bainbridge and Mrs. Floyd SMALLEY of Jackson Center; and two brothers, Wolfe of Linworth and Guy of Cleveland. The body was taken to the Sprague funeral home in South Charleston and was returned Tuesday morning to the residence, where services will be conducted.

Mr. SCHAFFNER was born in historic Pennsylvania House on W. Main St., which his parents were operating at the time. He had resided on Clark County all of his life. Eldon Edwin EVANS, 8, of801 N. Florence st., died unexpectedly about 5 p.m. Tuesday in Champaign County Hospital. He recently had undergone a tonsillectomy. Born in Springfield, he had resided here all his life. Eldon was a member of the Lagonda Congregational Christian church Sunday School. Next autumn, he would have been a third grade pupil in Washington School. He is survived by his father, George E., in the Navy in the South Pacific; his mother, Dorothy of Springfield; a brother, Thomas Edward of Springfield; his paternal grandfather, Fred EVANS of Springfield; his paternal grandmother, Mrs. Mildred ROSS of Dayton; his maternal grandfather, Harold HILL of Springfield, and his maternal grandmother, Mrs. Edna HILL of Springfield. Miss Effie B. BRADBURY, 75, of 1524 S. Yellow Springs st., died at 8 a.m. Wednesday in a nursing home at 1212 E. High st., where she had been ill for two years. Born October 16, 1869, in Springfield, Miss BRADBURY had spent her life in this city. She was a member of Central Methodist Church. Two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Ela BRADBURY and Mrs. Adelaide BRADBURY, both of Springfield, are the only survivors. The body was removed to the Littleton funeral home.

Charles Dillard, Farmer, Succumbs. William E. DILLARD, 81, died in his home, four miles east of South Charleston, at 9 a.m. Saturday. A native of Pike County, he had lived in Clark County for the last 40 years. He was a large land owner. He is survived by eight sons and two daughters; the Rev. Ralph, Clifford, Thomas, Okey and Desloyes, all of South Vienna; Luther, of Jeffersonville; Hinton, of Springfield, Route 2; Herbert, of Urbana, Route 1; Mrs. Joanna KNOFF, West Liberty, and Russie DILLARD, at home; 24 grandchildren and three great grandchildren. The body was removed to the Sprague funeral home in South Charleston and will be returned to the family home Sunday afternoon. She was the widow of Finley O. CUMMINGS, who died Sept. 4, 1922. One son, Wilbur L. CUMMINGS, and a grandson, Wilbur L. CUMMINGS, Jr., a casualty of World War II, preceded her in death. She was a member of the High Street Methodist Church. Survivors are two daughters, Mrs. Dallas V. HALVERSTADT of Hollywood, Calif., Mrs. William BRUCE of Springfield; and five grandchildren, Capt. Born near Bellefontaine, on April 3, 1879, he resided in Springfield for a number of years, and was employed as a meat cutter for the E.W. Fulmer Co. He went to Toledo four years ago, where he was employed by The Great Atlantic and Pacific Tea Co. Survivors are his widow, Louise; two brothers, Harry W. 322 S. Wittenberg Av, George A. of Clear Lake, Iowa, and several nieces and nephews. He entered the home April 12, 1942, sponsored by Bellefontaine Lodge No 209, F. and A.M. Survivors are two daughters, Mrs. SERLIES, whose address is not known, and Inez of Springfield; and four sons, Paul of Tucson, Ariz., Gale of Wabash, Ind., Don of Bellefontaine, and Russell. The body was removed to the Woods Funeral Home, and was to be taken to the Kennedy funeral home in Bellefontaine, Monday afternoon for services 4 pm Wednesday. Burial will be in DeGraff.

Jacob Hawver, 87, of 1123 Garfield av., died at 6:40 a.m. Sunday in the City Hospital, following a three-week illness. He was a past chancellor-commander and trustee of Red Star Lodge No. 205, Knights of Pythias. Mr. Hawver was born in Troy, April 20, 1858, the son of John and Matilda Hawver. He was a member of Bushnell Council No. 163 Jr. O.U.A.M., and had been a member of Red Star Lodge for 49 years. He was retired a number of years ago after being employed 49 years with the former Foos Gas Engine Co. Survivors are a daughter, Mrs. Bessie Stanaway of Springfield; a son, Edgar A. of Sydney; two grandsons and three great-grandchildren. Judge Frank GEIGER Dies Heart Attack Fatal To Appellate Jurist In Columbus Hotel Judge Frank W. GEIGER, 77, of 733 S. Limestone st., a member of the Second District Court of Appeals, died of a heart attack at 5 a.m. Thursday, after collapsing in his room at the Deshler-Wallick Hotel, Columbus, where he was staying during a session of the court. He had left Springfield on Monday. Born and reared in Springfield Judge GEIGER was the son of the Rev. H.R. GEIGER, D.D., founder and for many years a member of the faculity of Wittenburg College, and a great grandson of Charles GEIGER, Revolutionary soldier. He was graduated from Wittenberg College, and after his admission to the bar, practiced law in Springfield. Early becoming interested in politics, Judge GEIGER served 12 years as judge of the Clark County Probate Court, and eight years as judge of the Clark County Common Please Court. He had been a member of the Second District Court of Appeals since 1937. Judge GEIGER retired from the bench in 1923, and continued the practice of law in Springfield until 1929 when he was appointed a member of the Ohio Public Utilities Commission, a position he held for five years. As a member of the Public Utilities Commission, he came in contact with important utility and transportation activities. In this position he was particularly active in obtaining legislation for the protection of railroad employees, and for the traveling public through grade eliminations and installment of automatic signals at grade crossings. During his service with the utilities commission Judge GEIGER was particularly interested in the protection autoists at railway grade crossing and the extension of electric light and power facilities in rural communities. He formulated the well known Administrative Order No. 110 of the Ohio Public Utilities Commission, which considerably reduced the initial cost of electric currant service to the farmers of the state. He had been active in the political and civic activities off his state, city and county. He served the Clark County Republican Executive Committee after attaining his voting majority. As judge of the probate Court, Judge GEIGER was largely instrumental in establishing the juvenile court in Ohio. Under his administration, the first detention home in the state, outside of Cleveland, was provided for the care of delinquent and negected children of Clark County. While judge of the Clark County common Pleas Court, he obtained legislative enactments which promoted the efficiency of the court. He was a candidate for judge of the Ohio Supreme Court in 1934. In 1936 he defeated Judge Lowell C.Bodey of Champaign County in the race for judgeship of the Appellate Court, Second District, on the largest in the state, and took office the following year. Judge Bodey, appointed by Go. Martin L. Davey, was serving the unexpired term of Judge Albert H. Kumkle, of Springfield who had been a member of the court for many years until his death in 1935. Judge GEIGER was re-elected in 193 to the Second District Court of Appeals, which he was serving as presiding judge at the time. The district includes the 11 counties of Clark, Champaign, Darke, Fayette, Franklin, Greene, Madison. Miami, Montgomery, Preble and Shelby. To Judge GEIGER goes the credit for public parks in the city. He was the first, as a young boy to suggest to the Snyder brothers that they leave their lands to the city, which they later did, with a $100,000 trust fund to keep it going. He was a strong proponent of the idea that the city make a parkway of all the banks of Buck Creek from Synder Park to the city waterworks. He had studied many parks of Europe, and though Springfield could have as fine as any, if city residents were to appreciate the natural beauties of the stream and the magnificent sycamores, buckeyes, and elms along its banks - trees which in Europe they nurtured in pride, instead of cutting down at whim. Judge GEIGER and the late Attorney George Dial raised funds for Cliff Park, and also promoted acquisition of pumping station land owned by the city, visualizing the afore-mentioned park through the city. Judge GEIGER was a member of the Covenant Presbyterian Church, and a member of various Masonic and other fraternal organizations in Springfield. His widow, Mrs. Laura WINGER GEIGER, is the only immediate survivor. She is the daughter of the late Capt. Amaziah WINGER, a pioneer Springfield business man, who was one of the founders of the Superior Drill Co. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Y., Mrs. William MURPHY of Charlottesville, Va., Mrs. Kenneth BACKMAN, Newton, Mass., Mrs. Earl PRYOR, Falls Church, Va., Mrs. Ben WORRELL, Palm Beach, Fla.; Mrs. Margaret G. WILLIAMSON, Palm Beach; Ben GARVER, Lockhart, N.Y.; John GARVER, Buffalo, N.Y.; Tracy GEIGER, Dayton; Robert GEIGER, Canton; Russell and Miss Rose GEIGER, both of Troy, O.; Arthur HOSTERMAN of Niagra Falls, N.Y.; Mrs. Bruce GEIGER of Piqua; and Mrs. Bert GEIGER of Troy. The body was to be brought to Springfield Thursday afternoon to the Littleton funeral home. Friends are requested to omit flowers.

The body was removed to the Woods Funeral Home and will be taken to the residence at 9 A.M. Sunday. Burail will be in Tremont City Cemetery. Mr Ballentine died at 12:15 P.M. Friday in the City Hospital following a week's illness. He had been in failing health for three months. Born in German Twp, he had resided in Clark County his entire life. Mr Ballenitine was a farmer and prominent civic affairs, serving on the township Board of Education for 16 years and as township trustee for 12 years. He was not serving in either capacity at the time of his death. He was a member of Harmony Baptist Church in Terre Haute. Mrs Mechlin, the widow of James C Mechlin, who died in March, 1942, was the granddaughter of pioneer Springfield residents and had resided here all her life. She was a member of Central Methodist Church for the past 75 years and was active in the YWCA and Rebekah Lodge. Survivors include three daughters, Mrs Grace SPARLING of Toledo and Mrs Ruth CULP and Miss Nancy MECHLIN of Springfield; one son Henry of Osborn, five grandchildren and two great grandchildren. High st., for 40 years. His wife, Lottie B., died Dec. 24, 1936. Mr. BALLENTINE was a member of St. Paul M. E. Church and the Red Star Lodge, No. 205, K. of P. Survivors include a niece, with whom he resided, and a nephew. The body was taken to the Littleton funeral home.
