Mrs. Jessie FORD, 44, died at her home, 716 E. Columbia St. at 9 pm Monday, following a short illness. Her husband, John W. FORD; two sons, Henry and James of Springfield; one daughter, Mary of Springfield; one step-daughter, Anna May LICKLIGHTER of Dayton; her mother, Mrs. G.B. LICKLIGHTER of Dayton, and two brothers and three sisters survive. The body was removed to the O'Brien Funeral Home, and was sent Tuesday afternoon to Jamestown, O. for funeral and burial Wednesday afternoon.

PORTER Name of Newspaper is Daily News, Springfield, OH on Tuesday, December 6, 1932

W. Taylor PORTER, 84, died at 9 am Tuesday at the Ohio Masonic Home, where he was admitted August 3, 1929, from Caledonia, O., Oliver Lodge, No 447, Free and Accepted Masons. He leaves no survivors. The body was taken to the Holl funeral home. Funeral services will be held at the home at 2 pm Thursday. Burial will be made in the home cemetery.

Mrs. Harriet E McGRATH, 76, died suddenly at 8 am Tuesday at her home, 608 W. Euclid Ave. She was born in Madison County, O., and had lived in Springfield for 35 years. She leaves her husband, Charles; one daughter, Mrs. Mary ACKERMAN; one half sister, Mrs. John FINNEY of Cedarville; two sons, Henry and Thomas BARRETT, both of this city; six grandchildren and one brother, Samuel DAVIS, of Washington Court House, O. Funeral services will be held at the residence at 2 pm Friday. Burial will be made in Clifton Cemetery.

Page 1. Following a lingering illness, Dr. W. E. BRIGHT, 66, of North Hampton who had practiced medicine in Clark County for the last 35 years, died at 3 p.m. Tuesday at the City Hospital. Although in failing health for a year and a half, Dr. BRIGHT continued in his practice until less than two weeks ago. He was taken to the hospital last Thursday. Dr. BRIGHT was born May 26, 1866, near Christiansburg, O., then called Addison. He attended the common schools there, graduating from the Christiansburg High School in 1888. From 1894 until 1897 he attended the Ohio Medical University, now a part of Ohio State University, graduating in March of 1897. He began his practice in the same year of his graduation at New Lebanon, O., and after three months there, moved to North Hampton in September of 1897, where he practiced until only a short time before his death. While he maintained his offices in North Hampton, he practiced general medicine throughout the county. He was a member of the visiting staff of the Springfield City Hospital, and was a member of the Ohio State Medical Association, the American Medical Association, and the Clark County Medical Society, in which he served in various offices. In 1890 he became a member of the Mt. Olivet Lodge, Free and Accepted Masons of Christiansburg, and in 1899 became a member of White Star Lodge, No. 292, Knights of Pythias of North Hampton. He was also a member of the North Hampton Junior Order United American Mechanics. His mother, Susan C. BRIGHT of Christiansburg, who is 88 years of age; one brother, Alvin J. BRIGHT, of Christiansburg; and a son, Charles H. BRIGHT, of North Hampton, survive. His wife died nine years ago. The body was taken to the Richison funeral home in St. Paris. Funeral arrangements have not been completed, but it is expected that the fraternal organizations of which he was a member, and the Clark County Medical Society, would take part in the services.

John O. STEPHAN, 87, died Wednesday at 9:30 a. m. at the Ohio Odd Fellows' Home. He was born in Germany. He had been at the home for eight years, being admitted from Portsmouth, O. He leaves his widow, Mrs. Mary STEPHAN, at the home. The body was taken to the Jackson funeral home. Funeral services will be held at the Odd Fellows' Home Friday at 1:30 p.m. Burial will be made in Ferncliff Cemetery.

Funeral services for Ollie STRAUSS, 44, who died at 11:30 p.m. Monday at the home of his sister, Mrs. Dora TOKOPH, 1619 S. Limestone st., will be held at the Jackson funeral home at 2 p.m. Thursday. Burial will be made in Ferncliff Cemetery. Services will be in charge of Rabbi Phineas Smoller. Mr. STRAUSS' death followed an illness of a year. He was born in Springfield, and had resided in this city all his life. He was a salesman. In addition to the sister at whose home he died, he leaves another sister, Miss Freda STRAUSS of this city, and his mother, Mrs. Clara STRAUSS.

William CLOSEY, 65, died suddenly at 8:30 a.m. Friday at his home 701 W. Columbia St. He leaves his widow, Mrs. Eleanor CLOSEY; one son, Martin, of Detroit; one daughter, Mrs. Sadie YETTER, of this city; six grandchildren and a sister, Miss Ella CLOSEY, of Urbana. The body was taken to the Schaefer Funeral Home and later to the residence.

Mrs. C.A. HINSON has received word of the death of her uncle, J. B. HECK, a former resident of Springfield and Urbana, who died Wednesday morning at his home in Sandusky. He had lived for the last 10 years in Indianapolis and Sandusky. He was married to Miss Clara HILL of Urbana who survives him. The time of the funeral will be announced later.

Daniel A. MAHONEY, 40, died at his home 511 Scott St., at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday. He was born in Springfield and had lived here his entire life. He was a structural iron worker employed in Springfield. His widow, Mary, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Patrick J MAHONEY; three brothers, Patrick J. MAHONEY, Jr., John J. and Walter A. MAHONEY; and three sisters, Mrs. J. F. MOYNIHAN, Elizabeth E. and Virginia MAHONEY, all of Springfield, survive. Funeral services will be conducted at 9 a.m. Saturday at the St. Joseph Church. Burial will be made in Calvary Cemetery.

Following a brief illness, death claimed Dr. Edward H. COLLIS, 53, of 1504 S. Center blvd., at 6:15 p.m. Wednesday at the City Hospital. Dr. Collis became ill last Friday and was taken to the City Hospital on Friday evening. Born in Springfield, he had lived here all his life and practiced dentistry in this city for the past 25 years. He attended local schools and was a graduate of the Ohio State School of Dentistry. For the past seven or eight years he maintained offices in the Arcue bldg., but last week moved to the Tecumseh bldg. His widow, Millicent; three daughters, June and Edith COLLIS, of Springfield, and Kathleen HOYT, also of this city; and two sisters, one a resident of Chicago and the other residing in California, survive. The body was removed to the Jackson Funeral Home. Funeral services held Saturday at the residence. Burial in Ferncliff Cemetery.

Watch Repair Man Succumbs. Following a brief illness, John R. MORSE, 56, died at 10 p.m. Monday at his home, 526 East Cassilly Street. He operated a watch repair stand at 60 West Main Street for the last five years. Mr. MORSE was a native of Andover, Ohio, and had lived in this city for the last 17 years. He was a member of the Northminster Presbyterian Church; Red Star Lodge, Knights of Pythias, and Bokara Temple, No. 113, Knights of Pythias. His widow, Mrs. Minnie MORSE; and one sister, Mrs. Rena BELDEN of Ashtabula, Ohio, survive. The body was removed to the Coffman funeral parlors.

William F. Day, 58, died at 8 a.m. Tuesday at his home, 907 Warder Street. Death was de to pneumonia. His wife, Elizabeth; one son, James and his mother, Mrs. Catherine DAY survive. He was a member of the Fraternal order of Eagles, the Holy name Society, the St. Bernard Church and the Superior Gas Benefit Association.

Mrs. Barbara DENLINGER, 82, died at 8:45 a.m. Monday at her home in Enon. Three sons, William Jesse and Clifford, all of Enon; one daughter, Mrs. Anna SHEETZ, of Osborn; and one brother, Jacob STCKLE, of new Carlisle, survive. Funeral services will be held at the residence at 2 p.m. Thursday. Burial will be made in the Enon Cemetery.

Funeral services for Henry Clay South 91, who died Tuesday morning at the home of J.W. Loy, 726 N. Limestone St., with whom he made his home for the past nine months, will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the Kingscreek Methodist Episcopal Church, in charge of the Rev. R.B. Herier, pastor of the Kingscreek Church. Burial will be made in Mt. Carmel Cemetery near Kingscreek. Mr. South a former resident of Salem Township, Champaign County was born in Baltimore, Md., in 1841. He was a veteran of the Civil War, having been a member of the 134th Ohio Volunteer Infantry. He was the last veteran in Salem Township. Five children, Mrs. David Mitchell of West Carrollton, Miss Nellie South of Dayton; Earl South of Kingscreek; Mrs. Pearl Johnson of Cable, and Miss Ethel South of Springfield, and a brother, J.E. South of Columbus, survive. The body is at the home of his son, Earl, in Kingscreek, where is will remain until time for the funeral services.

Yellow Springs st., following a lingering illness, will be held at the St. Bernard Church at 9 a.m. Monday, with the solemn requiem high mass. Burial will be made in the St. Bernard Cemetery. The body was taken to the O'Brien Funeral Home, and will be removed to the residence Saturday afternoon. Mr. KAMPMAN had lived in Springfield most of his life, and for the past 21 years had lived with his son, John. His wife, Mary, preceded him in death 29 years ago. He was a member of the St. Bernard Church. Nine children, Sister Mary Leonard, a teacher at St. Leo's School, Detroit, Mich.; Mrs. William WHITACRE of Springfield; George KAMPMAN of Xenia; Louis KAMPMAN of Balitmore, Md.; Fred KAMPMAN of Detroit; Joseph KAMPMAN of East Orange, N.J.; Leo KAMPMAN of the United States Navy and stationed at present on the Pacific Coast; Frank KAMPMAN, a detective of the Springfield police department; and John KAMPMAN, at whose home he died, survive. He also leaves one sister, Margaret KAMPMAN and three brothers, Benjamin, Joseph, and Henry KAMPMAN, all of Springfield, and 15 grandchildren.

Page 6. Funeral services will be conducted at the Schaefer funeral home at 2:30 p.m. Saturday for Samuel RUSSELL, 53, former Springfield resident who died at 7:25 p.m. Thursday in a Dayton hospital. His death followed an illness of six months, and was due to a stroke of paralysis. Mr. RUSSELL was an electrician by trade, and after leaving Springfield a number of years ago, spent some time in the Oklahoma oil fields. His mother, Mrs. Dora RUSSELL of 421 W. Pleasant st.; a brother, Thomas L. RUSSELL; and a sister, Miss Charlotte RUSSELL, both of Springfield, survive. Following services at the funeral home, burial will be made in Ferncliff Cemetery. Funeral services for Simon T. HAWKE, 82, a retired farmer, who died at 12:30 A. M. Monday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. D. S. RUST, one mile north of Dialton, will be held at 1 p. m. Thursday at that residence. Burial will be made in Ferncliff Cemetery. The body was taken to the Doom Brothers Funeral Home. Mr. HAWKE was born in Clark County and had lived in the northern part of the county most of his life. For a time he was connected with a hardware store in North Hampton. His widow, Mrs. Ellen HAWKE; and three children, Mrs. RUST, at whose home he died; Earl HAWKE of Columbus, and Howard Hawke of West Hope, N. D., survive.

He had spent most of his life in Clark County. A son, Walter E. MINNICK, of Springfield; five grandchildren, five great grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Amanda CANADY, of Springfield, survive. He was a member of the First Lutheran Church of Springfield. Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Jackson funeral Home. Burial will be made in Ferncliff Cemetery.

North Hampton, O. Mark SMITH, 74 of North Hampton, died suddenly of heart disease yesterday while working on the highway near his home. He was an employee of the State Highway Department and was engaged in repairing the road when he dropped dead. Besides his widow, Alice, one brother, Max , of Troy, and a grandson, survive. He was a resident of Springfield for many years, and at one time was part owner of a grocery store in New Carlisle. Funeral services will be conducted at the residence Thursday at 2 pm. Burial will be made in Ferncliff Cemetery.

Mrs. Oscar ZERKLE, 65, of 1111 Broadway, died at her home at 3:40 p.m. Sunday following an illness of a year. Mrs. ZERKLE was born in Champaign County, but had lived in Clark County most of her life. She had lived in Springfield for the last 30 years. Besides her husband, three sons, Lawrence, Arthur and John ZERKLE of Springfield; two daughters, Carrie and Lilliam ZERKLE, both at home; three brothers, John OWNES of Springfield, Alonzo OWENS of Cleveland, and Edward OWENS of Millersville, O.; and two sisters, Mrs. Harry NEFF and Mrs. Clinton DEER, both of Tremont City, survive. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Tremont Reformed Church, in Tremont City, and burial will be made in the Tremont City Cemetery.

G. E. SHELEY, 55, died at his home, 131 W. Columbia st., at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, following an illness of two years. He suffered a stroke of paralysis Friday evening. Mr. SHELEY was born in Jamestown, O., but had made his home in Springfield for the last 14 years. His widow; a step-son, Willis GLASS of Jamestown; one sister, Miss Jessie SHELEY, and two brothers, Arthur and Homer SHELEY, survive. The body was removed to the residence of his step-son, Willis GLASS, of Jamestown, where funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday. Burial will be made in the Jamestown cemetery.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday for Albert L. SLAGER, 81, of 514 S. Wittenberg Ave., secretary and curator of the Clark County Historical Society who died in an automobile crash Sunday night at High St. and Wittenberg Ave. The services will be conducted at the Central Methodist Episcopal Church, High and Center Sts., in charge of the Rev. Dr. Jesse Swank, pastor, instead of at the residence as previously announced. Burial will be made in the Ferncliff Cemetery. Friends may view the body at the residence from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Wednesday. Mr. SLAGER came to Springfield from Champaign County 50 years ago and for the last eight years had been secretary of the Clark County Historical Society. He was the author of many historical treatises and of the book, "Early Methodism in the Ohio Valley, 1789 to 1920". He served on the executive committee for the Sesquicentennial of the Battle of Piqua, held in Springfield in 1929. He has been identified with the prohibition movement in Clark County for the last 49 years, having served as the secretary of local dry organizations for the last 47 years. He retired in 1930 as secretary of the Clark County Dry Federation.

W. Evans was called, and gave a verdict of death due to heart failure, which was substantiated by Coroner Austin Richards, following an investigation. Mr. MARTIN was born in Greenbriar County, W. Va., and had lived in this city for more than 40 years. He was a salesman, and was widely known. He was a member of Anthony Lodge, No. 455, F. and A.M.; Norris Chapter, No. 426, O. E. S.; White Shrine of Jerusalem; Red Star Lodge, No. 25, K. of P.; the Central Methodist Episcopal Church; and of Class No. 1 of the Sunday School of the church. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Emma KIRK MARTIN; four step-children, Mrs. Lois BRIGHT, of Springfield, Mrs. Mabel HILLIARD, of Fletcher, O.; George KIRK, of Casstown, O., and Ralph KIRK, of Springfield; one sister, Mrs. Mary CONNER, of Casstown, O.; and two nephews. The body was removed to the Littleton Funeral Home, where the funeral services will be held Monday at 2 p.m.

Jack SHULTIS. Military funeral rites will be conducted at the Jackson funeral home at 3:30 p.m. Monday for Jack SHULTIS, 43, former Springfield resident who died a week ago at his home in Los Angeles, Calif. Burial will be made in the Enon Cemetery. Mr. SHULTIS' body arrived in this city, Sunday, accompanied by his widow, the former Lydia SHELLABARGER of Enon, O., and three children, Maribel, Wallace and Jackie SHULTIS. Mr. SHULTIS was a member of Battery F, 324 Heavy Field Artillery during the World War, later attending officers' training school at Camp Zachery Taylor, Kentucky. Since the war he had been manager of the Western District of the Champion Chemical Co., of this city. George Cultis Post American Legion will take part in the military rites Monday.

Limit Fixed on Burial Expense. The will of the late Charlotte C. WEAVER, disposing of an estate estimated to be worth nearly $10,000 was admitted to probate Monday by Judge Henry G. Gram in the Probate Court. Mrs. Lottie COLLINS, of Sardinia, O., and attorney Arthur J. TODD, Springfield, nominated executors, were formally appointed under a joint bond of $15,600. Under the terms of the will a nephew William TROUTWEIN, Columbus, is bequeathed a gold watch and chain which was the property of Mrs. WEAVER's husband. To the Springfield Cemetery Association, $200 is left in trust, the income from which is to be used for the maintenance of a family burial lot in Ferncliff Cemetery. Mrs. WEAVER specified that the expenses for her funeral services should not exceed $800., and that she be buried in a cement vault. A bequest of $100 is left to the St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church of Springfield and the remainder of the estate is left to the grand-...(remainder of article cut off).

Page 7. Harvey G. MARTIN, 72, a bachelor, committed suicide by hanging himself in a woods at the home of his brother, E. J. MARTIN, Springfield, Route 4, Thursday. Coroner Austin RICHARDS, who was called to the home at 11:15 p.m. Thursday, returned a verdict of death by strangulation with suicidal intent. Mr. MARTIN had been in ill health for some time, according to the report made to Coroner RICHARDS, and this is believed to have caused the act. His body, hanging from a tree, was found by his brother about 10 p.m. Thursday. He had been dead about eight hours when the body was found, the coroner said. Private funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the home of the brother and burial will be made in Ferncliff Cemetery. Mr. MARTIN was a native of Maryland, but had lived in this vicinity since he was four years old. Besides the brother at whose home he died, he leaves three other brothers, Silas C. MARTIN and John H. MARTIN, of Route 9; and Albert L. MARTIN, of the city, and one sister, Mrs. Mary C. HARLAN , of Springfield.

Funeral services for Mrs. David SHEETS, 90, life resident of Clark County, who died at 5:15 a.m. Friday at her home in Beattytown, will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the Jackson funeral home. Burial will be made in Enon Cemetery. Mrs. SHEETS was born Nov. 8, 1843, in Mad River township. She was a member of the Christian Church of Enon. Her husband, David SHEETS; two sons, F.E. SHEETSand P.A. SHEETS both of Springfield; five daughters, Mrs. Rose TAYLOR and Mrs. Carrie FROCK, both of Enon; Mrs. Emma RADER, of this city; Miss Celia F. SHEETS and Mrs. Bessie RICHESON both at home; 15 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren survive. The body will remain at the Jackson funeral home until after the services, when it will be taken to Enon for burial.

LONG ILLNESS IS ENDED BY DEATH. Following a seven months' illness, John W. BOWMAN, 63, died at 12:3 p.m. Friday at his home, 802 Clifton av. He was custodian of the Clifton Avenue Methodist Episcopal Church. Mr. BOWMAN was born in Warren County, O., but had made his home in Springfield for the last 40 years. He was a member of the Clifton Avenue M. E. Church. His widow, Jennie; two grandchildren, Erma Jean LINDEMANN and Ruth LINDEMANN; a son-in-law, Carl LINDEMANN; and one brother, B F. BOWMAN of Dayton survive. The body was removed to the Littleton funeral home and will be taken to the residence Saturday night. Funeral services will be held at the residence at 10:30 a.m. Monday. Burial will be made in Ferncliff Cemetery.

Alexander BURKE, 98, the oldest member of the Knights of Pythias Lodge in Ohio, died Friday at 11:30 p.m. at the Ohio Pythian Home for the Aged. Mr. BURKE had been in failing health for several months. He had been a resident of the home for 10 years, and came to that institution from Illinois. He was born in Cleveland and had lived there practically all of his life. Mr. BURKE was a piano tuner by trade. He had belonged to the Owatonna Knights of Pythias Lodge, No. 62, in Cleveland, for more than 50 years, and for this distinction had been given a 50-year jewel by Ohio Pythians. He leaves no survivors. The body was tkane to the Coffman Funeral Home.

page 13. Miss Clarice CURREY, 19, of 11 Alden Ave., died at the City Hospital at 3 a.m., Tuesday, June 6, 1933, of injuries sustained in an automobile-traction car crash on E. Main st. The body was removed to the Degenhart funeral home, and will be returned to the residence Wednesday afternoon. Funeral services will be conducted at the Second Lutheran Church at 2:30 p.m. Thursday. Burial will be made in Rose Hill Memorial Park.

Mrs. Sarah D. HARTZELL died Tuesday at 10:15 p. m. at the home of her niece, Miss Carrie FOSTER, 502 E. Grand av. with whom she made her home. She had been ill for several years. Besides the niece at whose home he died, she leaves a brother, James DUGAN, of S. Limestone St.; and a sister, Mrs. James L. WELSH, of 2565 E. High st., also a number of nephews and nieces. She was a member of one of the pioneer families of Clark County, being the daughter of William and Caroline DUGAN, parents of William DUGAN, having settled on a farm east of the city in 1806. A brother, Dr. John P. Dugan; and a sister, Mrs. Mary FOSTER, preceded her in death. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p. m. Friday at the Fletcher Chapel. Burial will be made in the Fletcher Chapel cemetery.

Mrs. Martha Jane HARDACRE, 48, wife of Orville HARDACRE, died Wednesday at 3 a.m. at her home in Anderson, Ind., according to word received by relatives in Springfield. Her husband, a daughter, Mrs. Hazel BENNEFIELD, Anderson, Ind.; a brother, William H. HAWKE, Springfield, Route 8; and a sister Mrs. Frank B. TICE, Bellefontaine, survive. Funeral services will be held Friday at 2:30 p.m. at the residence in Anderson, and burial will be made in an Anderson cemetery.

Page 11. Harold A. Schneider, 37, of 2225 Beatrice St., died Wednesday at 5 a.m. at the City Hospital after a short illness. The body will be at the home of his mother, Mrs. Charles F. Schneider, 1404 S. Center st. Mr Schneider, who was employed by Robbins and Myers, Inc. for the last 20 years, was born in New Bremen, O., and had resided in Springfield for the last 35 years. He was a member of the St. Raphael Church and of the Holy Name Society. Surviving him are his widow, Mrs. Mary Elizaabeth SCHNEIDER; four children, Mary Louise, Charles Edward, James Harold and William Joseph SCHNEIDER; his mother, Mrs. Charles F. SCHNEIDER, his brothers, Joseph J. SCHNEIDER of Fribourg, Switzerland; and Charles F., August R. and William P. SCHNEIDER, of Springfield; and three sisters, Mrs. Michael O'CONNER, of Chicago; and Misses Elizabeth and Mary SCHNEIDER, of this city.

Funeral services for Miss Mary LONEY who died at 6 pm Tuesday at her home, 104 Dover Rd, following an illness of six weeks, will be held at the St Mary Church at 9 am Friday. Burial will be made in Calvary Cemetery. The body is at the O'Brien Funeral Home, where it will remain until the time of the funeral. She was born in this city where she lived all her life and was a member of the St Joseph Church. She leaves one brother, the Rev. Fr. M.J. LONEY, and a sister, Miss Margaret LONEY, also of the Dover Rd address.
