James H. BUTTS, 73, of St. Petersburg, Florida, died Wednesday March 23, 1994, at the Drew Village Nursing Center, Clearwater. He was born in Springfield, Ohio and came to this area in 1972 from Springfield, Ohio. He was a retired machinist and shop foreman for ITT, Springfield, Ohio. He served in the United states Navy during World War II. Member of the Veterans for Foreign War Post 4256, Maderia Beach and a member of B.P.O.E. 192, Maderia Beach. Survived by two sons, Jerry J., of Seminole, Florida and Phillip J., of Perry, Michigan; one brother William BUTTS of Texas; and companion, Pearl GARDNER, of St. Petersburg; five grandchildren: Amy and Phillip of Springfield and three of Florida; six great-grandchildren of Florida. Arrangements are being taken care of by Hubbell Funeral Home of Florida. A memorial service will be held in Springfield in June at the convenience of the family.

He was born on August 8, 1904 in Horodetz, Russia, the son of Gabriel and Anna Greenland. He was a resident of Springfield for 54 years and the founder of Aetna Building Maintenance Company. He was a member of the Temple Sholom and a founding member of Bethel Synagogue. He is survived by his wife, Cecile S. (SONNE) GREENLAND, whom he married on August 6, 1978; a son, Julian (Roberta) GREENLAND of Springfield; a daughter, Natalie (Bob) BARRAR of Dayton; one brother, Max GREENLAND of Silver Springs, Maryland; 11 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Estella; and one brother, Isador. Funeral Services will be conducted Friday at 11 a.m. in the Jackson Lytle & Ingling Williams Funeral Home, North Limestone Chapel with Rabbi Lloyd Goldman officiating. Eugene E. "Hooky" HOOK, 70, retired Springfield Firefighter, died Wednesday, June 22, 1994 at 4:30 a.m. in Mease Dunedin Hospital, Dunedin, Florida, after suffering a massive heart attack on June 18. He was born in Springfield, Ohio on September 20, 1923, the son of Eugene and Louise (KRUPP) HOOK. He graduated from Catholic Central High School in 1941 and was appointed a firefighter for Springfield Fire Department on April 16, 1948, promoted to a lieutenant on July 1, 1961 for Engine House Number 4 on Lagonda Avenue, retiring on December 1, 1975 after almost 28 years. After retiring he moved to Dunedink, Florida in 1978 where he served for nine and a half years on the Pinellas County Sheriffs Department. He was a veteran of World War II having served in the United States Marine Corp. He was a member of the St. Bernards Catholic Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Liedertafel Club, Eagles Lodge and the Northridge Lions Club, Eagles Lodge and the Northridge Lions Club. Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Florence L. "Flo" (WALP) HOOK, whom he married on January 19, 1946; a daughter and son-in-law, Dianne and Richard GENTIS of Piqua; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Frederick Eugene HOOK of Springfield and James A. and Elizabeth HOOK of Palm Beach Gardens, Florida; a sister and brother-in-law, Dorothy and Carl DAVIDSON of Springfield; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Herman was a photo-engraver for Brown and Kroger Printing Company in Dayton retiring in 1991. Prior to that he was employed at Springfield Gravure Corporation for a number of years. He was a member of St. Raphael Catholic Church, an avid golfer, and marshaled professional golf tournaments. During the winter months, he enjoyed ice fishing. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Elaine (CONROY); a son, John R. Velma I. (SHIPLEY, PURTEE) WADE, 94, of Springfield, died Saturday evening February 25, 1995 in the Heartland of Springfield Nursing Home. She was born May 21, 1901 in Clark County, the daughter of William E. and Paradine (BAKER) SHIPLEY. Mrs. WADE was retired from the Montgomery Ward and a long time member of the First Wesleyan Church. Survivors include; one daughter, Audrey HOBART of Springfield (formerly of Cincinnati); one step-daughter, Esther LEWIS of Sarasota, Florida; one step-son and his wife, Ray and Elaine WADE of Colorado Springs, Colorado; one sister, Dorothy BLOTNER of Dayton; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Harlan and Lois SHIPLEY of Ludlow Falls, and Don and Francie SHIPLEY of Xenia; four grandchildren, Alan WALLINGSFORD and wife, Sondra of North Hampton, Jim and Carol PURTEE of Dayton, Neal and Lynn PURTEE of Mississippi, and Shirley; and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son, Wayne PURTEE (1992). Friends may call Tuesday in the First Wesleyan Church one hour prior to the time of service to be held at 2 p.m. Pastor Paul Berridge officiating, interment to follow at the Vale Cemetery. He was born August 27, 1944 in Bellefontaine, Ohio, the son of Wayne and marguerite (WILSON) POLLOCK and was employed by Micro Enterprises. He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Katherine E. (EVANS) POLLOCK; his father of Springfield; two sons and a daughter-in-law, James J. and Mary POLLOCK of Indianapolis, Indiana and Scott W. POLLOCK of Springfield; one brother and sister-in-law, Jerry A. and Jeanie POLLOCK of Springfield; four granddaughters, Tosha, Sara, Shelby and Sydney; three nieces and four nephews. Luke H. HARSHBARGER, 89, of Urbana, died at 4 p.m. Saturday, February 25, 1995 in Heartland of Springfield. He was born on November 4, 1905 in West Liberty, Ohio, the son of Samuel H. and Edith (YODER) HARSHBARGER. Mr. HARSHBARGER worked at Trenor Motor Company in Springfield, Ohio as general manager for many years. For two years he was owner of HARSHBARER and Son, Incorporated in Sidney, Ohio then returned to Urbana where he was employed at Trenor Motors, Incorporated until retirement. He was a member of the maiden Lane Church of God, where he served as Sunday School teacher, music director, and was on numerous boards and committees. He was a former member of the Lions Club International and served on various community and civic organizations. He is survived by four daughters and sons-in-law, Kathleen and William ELLIS of Scott Depot, West Virginia, Patricia and Jerry STEVENSON of Anderson, Indiana, Sylvia and John SHROADES of Fresno, California, and Stephanie and Frederick OURS of Xenia, Ohio; one son and daughter-in-law, J. Luke and Norma HARSHBARGER of Springfield; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; a sister, Mary HARSHBARGER of West Liberty, Ohio; and two nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sara E. (ZOOK) HARSHBARGER just 15 days ago on February 10, 1995; his parents; one brother; and one sister. She is survived by her husband of 50 plus years; two daughters and sons-in-law, Nicola Lee and Douglas CALKIN of Denver, Colorado, Diana and Dr. Mark MACNEALY of Dayton, Ohio; two grandchildren, Marcus and Margeaux MACNEALY; sisters, Mazie ROBERTS of Urbana, Patricia and husband, Richard SWADENER of Walnut Creek, California; three sisters-in-law, Louise CLARK of Winter Haven, Florida, Leota FAULKNER and Betty (WARREN) RAYBURN of Urbana; and several nieces and nephews.
