Pat Kight, 82, of Springfield, died unexpectedly at 3:35 a.m. Friday, December 2, 1988 in Community Hospital. He was born in Jackson, Ohio, September 27, 1906 the son of John and Bertha (MARTIN) KIGHT. He was a member of the Church of God in Richmondale, Ohio. He was a 27 year employee of Crowell-Collier Company and a retired employee of the Philadelphia Enquirer. He is survived by his wife, Nora (HUTTON) KIGHT whom he married June 23, 1928; three daughters, Mrs. Robert (Delores) ROGERS of Springfield, Mrs. Thomas (Patty) RENTZ of Centerville, Ohio and Mrs. John (Elaine) LONGSHAW of Vincentown, New Jersey; two brothers, John KIGHT of Detroit, Michigan and Damon KIGHT of Springfield; one sister, Ruth HAMMOND of Chillicothe; six grandchildren, Vickie GORDON, Mark ROGERS, David ROGERS, Pat BEEKMAN, Michele BEEKMAN, Jon LONGSHAW; two great-grandchildren, Christopher BEEKMAN AND Kristen GORDON; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by several brothers and sisters. Friends may call in the Austin Richards and Raff Memorial Home from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday. Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday in the Memorial Home with Rev. John Wilson and Rev. Norman Moore officiating. Burial will be in Glen Haven Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Christian Church. Pat, who lost his legs a few years ago, was an inspiration and source of strength to all of those who came into contact with him. He was loved dearly by his family and will be missed by many friends.

Elizabeth C. Benham 87, passed away in her residence at 1905 Audubon Park Drive on Saturday morning, December 3, 1988. She was born in Cincinnati, Ohio on May 3,1901 the daughter of Robert C. and Isabell (HINSHEY) COLTER. She was a 50 year member of the High Street United Methodist Church, the Springfield Country Club, the Clark County Dental Auxiliary, and several other community organizations. She is survived by her daughter, Mrs. Richard (Martha) MITCHELL of Springfield; three grandchildren, StevenMITCHELL, Elizabeth BANCROFT, and Lori MITCHELL, all of Springfield;three great-grandchildren, Erin and Loren MITCHELL and Cassandra BANCROFT. She was the widow of Dr. Earl G. BENHAM, who preceded her death in 1982, along with seven brothers and sisters. There will be no visitation. Services will be held on Monday at the convenience of the family with Rev. Dennis Moritz officiating. Interment will be in Ferncliff Cemetery. James "Jim" E. Burks, 62, of Medway, died Saturday, December 3, 1988 at the Hospice Unit at St. Elizabeth Hospital, Dayton after a lengthy illness. He was born on March 21, 1926 in Springfield, Ohio the son of Edward and Sadie (THOMAS) BURKS. He had worked for 27 years as a molder for Hoban's Brass Foundry, Dayton. He was a member of the North Dayton Democrats Club and the Crystal Lakes Property Owners Association. Jim was preceded in death by his parents and special grandparents, Ed and Nora Lee BURKS. He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Eva; two daughters and sons-in-law, Jamie and Jim GRAFTON of Medway and Cathy and Ben OLSEN of Martinez, California; two grandchildren, Joey and Benjie; three sisters and a brother-in-law, Retha and Kenny YAKE of Medway, Nora Lee STUMPFF of Dayton, and Celia PRICE of Dayton; nieces, nephew, other relatives, and friends. Family and friends will meet at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Trostel-Chapman Funeral Home, New Carlisle for procession to the Terre Haute Cemetery for a graveside service with Rev. Dan Witter officiating. He was born in Bourneville, Ohio, August 3, 1910, the son of Clyde and Wilhelmina (HEMPHILL) CALDWELL. He was employed for many years as a management consultant for a New York Consulting Firm and later for Haskins and Sells Accounting Firm, Cincinnati. For the past 28 years he was a South Charleston area farmer. He served in the United States Army. He was a member of the Sugar Creek Presbyterian Church of Kettering. Survivors include his wife, Hazel (BOWEN), whom he married February 5, 1942; two daughters, Mrs. Wilson (Carolyn) COOK of South Charleston and Mrs. Mitchell (Ann) YEARY of PICKERINGTON, Ohio; three brothers, Wilson of Cleveland, John H. and Phillip both of New Cannan, Connecticut; three granddaughters, Audra and Melissa COOK of South Charleston, and Michelle YEARY of Pickerington; also four nieces; and four nephews. �Miss Gretta C. O'Brien, Passed away at 1:27 p.m. Wednesday, December 7, 1988 in Community Hospital. Her grandfather, John O'BRIEN immigrated from Ireland to Cincinnati and then to Springfield in 1850. He was married to Dora McAVOY. Miss O'BRIEN's father was Richard O'BRIEN, Springfield Chief of Police in 1899 and was on the Police Force for over 20 years. Her mother was Margaret (BURNS) O'BRIEN. Miss O'BRIEN's uncle, on her mother's side, was Charles CREAGER, a noted Springfield architect. Two of his important projects were Warder Public Library and St. Raphael Catholic Church. Miss O'BRIEN operated the Hotel Rogers for many years. She was preceded in death by one sister, Dora of Cincinnati; and two brothers, William and Walter of Springfield. Her body was taken to the Jones-Kenney-Zechman Funeral Home. There will be no visitation. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Monday, December 12, 1988 at 10 a.m. in St. Raphael Catholic Church, with Father James Bramlage officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. A former member of Oakland Presbyterian Church, presently a member of Pine Street United Methodist Church in Williamsport. Bill was very active in the Boy Scouts of America for over 50 years, including working with Troop 12 in Oakland Presbyterian Church. Commission member, Chairman, Exployer advisor, Scouting coordinator, and last served as a Unit commissioner. He earned many awards in scouting including Commission Arrowhead, Commission Key, and the last District Commission award. He is survived by his wife, Martha (HOGAN) EISWERT BEECROFT whom he married November 26, 1988; one son and daughter-in-law, William G. and Kay BEECROFT III of Xenia; two granddaughters, Laura and Lisa BEECROFT; one brother; two sisters. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Norma, January 24, 1985. Private graveside services will be held Monday at Rose Hill Burial Park. He retired in 1968 from the International Harvester Compnay and was an avid walker and bicyclist in the Clark County area. VERTREES, of Springfield; two sisters, Mindy and Jennifer VERTREES, both of Springfield; a brother and sister-in-law, Jeffrey and Valerie BARNHORST, of Marysville, Ohio/ maternal grandparents, Paul and Lucy TRENNER, of Springfield; paternal grandparents, William and Cleona BARHHORST, of Batesville, Indiana; step grandparents, Ernel and Sarah VERTREES, of Springfield; and several aunts, uncles, and including Chief Petty Officer First Class Mary K.
