He was born January 20, 1905 in Ginghamsburg, Ohio the son of Harvey and Clara (Borchers) Wells. He was employed as a branch manager with Commercial Motor Freight retiring in 1970. Survivors include his daughter, Nancy Berneking of Wayzata, Minnesota. He was preceded in death by his wife, Esther in October of 1977; and a sister, Eva Layne in 1988. There will be no visitation. Inurnment will be in Ferncliff Cemeterry. A memorial service will be conducted at a later date. Memorial contributions are requested to the donors own choice. Elizabeth A. GAIER, 91, of 29 North Limestone Street, died Friday morning in her residence following several years of declining health. She was born on September 15, 1897 in Reynoldsville, Pennsylvania the daughter of Joseph and Florence (ADELSBERGER) SCHOLL. She was a 1920 graduate of the old City Hospital School of Nursing and worked as a nurse for the City of Springfield Health Department and the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company. She married her husband, Laurence C. GAIER in August of 1924, and later began the GAIER Furniture Company, where she was the owner. Mrs. GAIER was a member of St. Bernard Catholic Church, attending St. Teresa, and was a charter member of the Catholic Ladies of Columbia. She was also a member of the Ohio State Nursing Association, District Number 11. Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Dorothy and Edwin FRICK of Eaton, Ohio, Betty and Paul BARTRUFF of Springfield; a son and daughter-in-law, Robert L. and Sandra GAIER; one sister, Mrs. Robert (Josephine) MINNICK of Springfield; two brothers, Charles SCHOLL of Du Bois, Pennsylvania, and Gerald and wife, Alta SCHOLL of Reynoldsville, Pennsylvania; eight grandchildren and two-step grandchildren; 11 great and five step-great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Marie LONEY and Cecilia GAIER. Anna L. HENRY, 70, a former Springfield resident, died unexpectedly in her Los Angeles, California home on January 19, 1990. She was born in Dyersburg, Tennessee on Dec. 23, 1919 and moved to Springfield at an early age where she met and married Stanley HENRY. Mrs. Henry moved to Calif. in 1958 and worked in the restaurant business in Long Beach and Los Angeles for several years until her retirement in 1976. She is survived by three daughters, W. Jean THOMAS, Shirley GIDEON and Georgia RUSS; a son-in-law, Kenneth GIDEON; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and uncle, William BRADFORD of Springfield; two cousins; a host of nieces and nephews. She was born May 30, 1898 in Clark County, the daughter of Clinton and Viola (BAKER) HUFFMAN and had been an area resident all her life. Mrs. Jenkins attended Lawrenceville High School and received her teaching certificate from Wittenberg Collge. She was employed as an elementary school teacher in the Terre Haute school system and was a member of the First United Church of Christ. She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Leah and Lewis H.WRIGHT of Urbana; one sister, Esther ANDERSON of North Hampton; four grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
