Alice GEIGER Is Taken By Death Sister of Jurist Succumbs In Home At Age Of 85 Funeral services for Miss Alice GEIGER, 85, prominent in the educational and cultural circles of Springfield for many years, who died at 11:15 p.m. Friday at her home, 469 Woodlawn av., will be held at the residence at 4 p.m. Monday. Burial will be made in Ferncliff cemetery. She had been seriously ill for the past two weeks and had been in failing health for some time. Miss GEIGER was the sister of Judge Frank W. GEIGER, judge of the Second District Ohio Court of Appeals. Miss GEIGER had been residing with her sister, Miss Ella L. GEIGER, 469 Woodlawn av., in the home built by their father in 1846. She as the daughter of H.R. GEIGER, one of the founders of Wittenberg College and a leader in the history of Springfield half a century ago. She graduated from Wittenberg College in the class of 1879 at the same time Wittenberg diplomas were awarded to the late John L. ZIMMERMAN, Judge A. N. SUMMERS, former judge of the Ohio Supreme Court and her brother, C.A. GEIGER, a former Springfield and Troy manufacturer. Following in her graduation from Wittenberg, miss GEIGER accepted a teaching position in a Lutheran Seminary in Luterhville, Md., where she taught for several years. later she taught school in Cincinnati and Beatrice Neb. A member of the Covenant Presbyterian Chruch, Miss GEIGER had been a leader in church, school and cultural work of the community for many years. In 1937 when Miss GEIGER celebrated her 80th birthday, she was honored during the annual Wittenberg Founder's Day program, as the oldest woman graduate of the institution. At the time, tribute was paid to her by Dr. Rees Edgar Tulloss, President of Wittenberg, who said: "It is a pleasure to congratulate the oldest woman graduate of Wittenberg College upon the 80th anniversary of her birthday. The significance of your achievement will continue to be a matter of gratification and pride to Wittenbergers of every generation. On behalf of the long line of young women who have followed in your footsteps and of all alumi I send you hearty greetings and best wishes upon this happy occasion." Only surviving relatives of Miss GEIGER are her sister and Judge GEIGER. Pall bearers will be Miss GEIGER's nephews and grand nephews: Russell GEIGER of Troy; Tracy GEIGER of Dayton; George McGAVERN of Birmingham Mich.; Bruce GEIGER of Piqua, and Pual GEIGER, also of Piqua.

Funeral services for Mrs Urba Mae EVILSIZOR, 61, wife of Clem EVILSIZOR, of Springfield, Rt 4, sister of Mrs Ray Brown of Urbana Rt 1 and a sister of John Walker of St Paris, were to be conducted at 2 P M Monday with burial in Ferncliff Cemetery, Springfield. The rites were to be held in the Jackson-Lytle funeral home in charge of the Rev J A Jenkinson, assistant pastor of the Central Methodist church. Mrs Evilsizor died Friday morning after an illness of two months. A native of Bowlusville, in Champaign County she had been a resident of Clark County for the past 37 years. Surviving are the husband; two daughters, Mrs Lloyd Stratton of Springfield Rt 6, and Mrs. Esther Bryant, Springfield; two sons, Norman E of Springfield and Lt Paul C EVILSIZOR, serving with the united States Army Air Corps. Nine grandchildren also survive. Mrs. Evilsizor was a member of the Clifton Avenue Methodist Church, Springfield.

Ashby L. PENDLETON, 61, a retired farmer residing near North Hampton, died at 8:45 a.m. Saturday, in the City Hospital. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Julia PENDLETON, three children, Miss Julia PENDLETON, San Diego, Calif; Mrs. Margaret ZINN, Springfield, Route 1, and Raymond PENDLETON, Springfield; a sister, Mrs. ENGREBRETSEN, Newark, N. J.; four brothers, John H., Charles, Oscar and Newton PENDLETON, all of Springfield, and three grandchildren. The body was removed to the Doom Brothers funeral home in New Carlisle. Funeral services Tuesday in the New Lawrenceville Reformed Church and burials will be in Lawrenceville Cemetery.

William B. ROSS 42, of 528 W Main St died at 7:40 a.m. Tuesday in City Hospital following a nine-month illness. He had been a resident of Clark County for a year and a half, and was a part owner of Central Meat Market. Mr. ROSS was a member of the Central Methodist Church. He was born in Henderson KY, July 7, 1900. He leaves his widow Mrs. Eliza ROSS, two sons James and William both of Henderson Ky.: one daughter, Nancy Ho: two sisters Mrs. Frank CRAIG of Henderson Ky, and Mrs. Oscar GRIFFIN also of that city; two brothers, John H of New York City, Eugene of LaCrosse , Wis., and the Rev. Harty ROSS of Sturgis Ky, and a half sister, Mrs. Lucille BOOK of Henderson KY, The body was taken to the Richards Memorial Home.

Page 12. John Henry BUSINGER, 86, a former resident of Clark County, died Oct. 29 in Omaha, Neb., after several years' failing health, it was learned Monday by friends here. He is survived by one brother, Walter, of Mechanicsburg. In 1879 Mr. BUSINGER and his cousin, Frank, formerly of the O.S. Kelly Co., planted the maple trees in front of the old DEAR's School, which is now the country home of Attorney G.W. Tehan.

Memorial services for Robert L. PURGETT, 23, Enon's first war casuality, will be held in the Enon Methodist Church where he was baptized. The time of the rites has not been decided. PURGETT who was a signalman in the Navy was killed in action off Guadalcanal on the night of Oct. 11 on the U. S. S. Duncan, a destroyer, the Navy Department announced Wednesday. Signalman PURGETT who had been serving in the Navy for four years, after enlistment in August, 1939, seemed to have a premonition of his death. �Writing to his foster mother, Mrs. Edna M. RUEGER he said, "I don't know but this is the last time you will ever hear from me." The letter, written less than a month before his death, was received by Mrs. RUEGER in September. PURGETT was born in Enon where his father died when he was nine years old. From that time until his enlistment he had lived in the township as the charge of Mrs. RUEGER. He was a member of the class of 1936 in Enon High School, but left school three months before graduation. Upon entrance into the Navy, Signalman PURGETT went to the Naval Training Station at Norfold, Va. After training he served for a few months on the U. S. S. Stack, before he was selected to go to the Signal School at San Diego, Calif. From there, with the rank of signalman, third class, he rejoined his ship, serving on the submarine patrol from the Bahama's to Iceland. He was transferred to the U. S. S. Duncan last April.

Death followed three years of failing health and a critical illness of one day. A native of Fayette County, Mrs. CALLISON had lived in CLARK County most of her life. She was a member of the Lawrenceville Reformed Church. Survivors are the husband, Charles L.(uther) a daughter, Mrs. Forest GRIEST of Springfield, route 2 and two grandsons. The body was removed to the Jackson Funeral Home and returned to residence Monday night. Heart Attack Is Fatal To N. J. FISCHER. Special Investigator From Prosecutor's Office Dies At Age 62. Nick J. FISCHER, one of the most popular secret operatives in the history of prosecution of crime in Clark County, died unexpectedly of a heart attack in his home, 440 Linden Avenue, at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday. He was 62 years of age, had spent his life here, and for six years was special investigator in the office of the county prosecutor. Death came after three weeks of illness, during which FISCHER enjoyed a quiet Christmas celebration with relatives here in his home. His wife, Mary, however, stricken with a nervous disorder recently, was taken to the City Hospital Sunday, and was in such critical condition that she was not to be told of her husband's death immediately. FISCHER for 30 years operated his own detective agency in Springfield before accepting public office. He served as clerk of the city police court for two terms, before the court became known as the municipal Court. FISCHER'S patience and skill as a detective brought results in several of the shocking crimes in Clark County. He worked on cases which resulted in important arrests and in the uncovering of valuable information in the following: the John Bushnell blackmail case in 1915, the Dingeldine killings in 1937, the Cronely robbery in 1939, the Raymond Doss rape case in 1941, and most recently the Hughes-Robinson arson case, now awaiting disposition. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, and of the St. Raphael Church. FISCHER is survived by three brothers and two sisters. The brothers are Leo A. FISHCER and Fred E. FISCHER, both of Springfield, and William FISCHER of Cincinnati. The sisters are Mrs. Tillie KRIEGBAUM of Springfield and Mrs. Catherine FRANKLIN of Middletown, Ohio. The body was taken to the O'Brien funeral home.

His wife, Mary, critically ill in the City Hospital with a nervous disorder, has not yet been told of his death. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and of the St. Raphael Church. HANKEL, STAIR Name of Newspaper is Daily News, Springfield, OH on Thursday, December 31, 1942

Elmer HANKEL, 52, was found dead in the home of his brother, Herman H., of 317 S. Fountain Avenue, Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. The brother went to Mr. HANKEL'S room and found him dead. Coroner Austin Richards stated that Mr. HANKEL had been dead two hours and probably had died of a heart attack. At approximately 4:45 p.m. Mr. HANKEL was served coffee by his sister-in-law. He retired to a bedroom and sometime later Mrs. HANKEL assumed him to be asleep. Shortly after 7 p.m., Herman HANKEL had suffered previous heart attacks and, not feeling well, Wednesday remained at home. Mr. HANKEL, a native of Galion, Ohio, had been employed by the National Supply Co. for five weeks. Surviving are his brother Herman, and a sister, Mrs. Emma STAIR of Galion. The body was taken to the Richards memorial Home and was sent to the Volk Funeral Home in Galion Thursday for funeral services and burial.

Bert D. ALLEN, 87, a lifelong resident of Clark County, died unexpectedly late Monday of a heart attack in his home at 1916 W. Washington st. He had worked until 10 p.m. Monday, and then went to his home for supper. He was stricken a few minutes after eating. He died shortly before midnight. Mr. Allen was the son of Edward and Jane AALLEN of Clark County and had resided in the community most of his life. For the past 16 years he had been an engineer for the Borden Co. He was a member of the Grace Methodist Church. Surviving are the widow, Madge D.; one daughter, Emma Mae, at home; his mother, Mrs. Jane ALLEN of Springfield; three brothers, Edward of Dayton, and Walter and Harry ALLEN, both of Springfield, and two sisters, Mrs. Grace MILLER of Springfield and Mrs. Jennie INGLING of Dayton. Several nieces and nephews also survive. The body was removed to Richards Memorial Home.

A resident of Springfield for the last 35 years, BYERMAN was born in Frederick County, Md. He was a member of the Second Lutheran Church, Lessing Lodge, No. 372, Knights of Pythias; Uniform Rank Co. 6, and the D.O.K.K. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Helen Otstot, of the same address; three sisters, Mrs. Mada Turvy and Mrs. Maggie Turvy, both of London, O.; and a brother, Werter C. Dyer of Dayton. KISSELL, 88, nationally-known business figure and retired Springfield resident who died at 2:30 p.m. Sunday in the Arcade Hotel, where he had been residing during several months of failing health, will be held at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday in Richards Memorial Home. Although a native of Maryland, Mr KISSELL had long been associated with the Kelly-Springfield Tire and Rubber Co., and was serving as branch manager for the firm in Philadelphia, Pa., when he retired in 1925. He returned to Springfield, where he had previously lived, in 1931. He is survived by a niece, Miss Villa KISSELL, of Springfield, and three nephews. His wife, Sarah, died May 12, 1939 in Springfield.
