Rites will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday in the Littleton Funeral Home for David L. STICKLE, 69, of 145 1/2 W. Main st. The Rev. John Cox of London Church of God will officiate. Burial will be in Enon Cemetery. Friends may call in the funeral home from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday. Mr. STICKLE, a retired employee of the Washington Post, died Wednesday night in Mercy Medical Center where he had been a patient since he was injured in a fall Saturday. Survivors include seven children and a sister, Mrs. Gertrude GRIMSLEY of Springfield.

Joseph McLean, 39, Succumbs After Surgery
Joseph H. McLean, 39, of 2642 Casey dr., died unexpectedly following surgery at 9:45 p.m. Sunday in Mercy Medical Center. He was born in Springfield on September 10, 1932 the son of Fred and Lillian Ostermann McLean and had lived here all his life. He had been employed as an accounting clerk at International harvester Co., for the past 16 years and was a member of St. Teresa Catholic Church and the Holy Name Society there; Local 658, UAW-CIO and had been the Cub Scout Master of Pack 80 at St. Teresa Church for the past three years. Survivors include his wife, Edna M., two daughters, Teresa Ann and Mary Margaret; two sons, Timothy Francis and Mark Joseph, all at home; two sisters, Mrs. George (Florence) Gibson of Springfield and Mrs. William (Roselyn) Kiefer of Mt. Clemens, Mich.; four brothers, John, Robert and William, all of Springfield and Edward of Dayton, and a numbers of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Fred and Frank and one sister, Mrs. Mary Jung. His body was taken to the Conroy Funeral Home where friends may call from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday. Mass of the Resurrection will be sung at 9 a.m. Wednesday in St. Teresa Church. Visitation services will be held at 8 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.

George A. FASICK, 63, of 141 Delcourt dr., died at 4:30 a.m. Sunday in Community Hospital following five weeks of serious illness and one year of failing health. He had lived in Springfield a number of years. He was a former employe of Crowell-Collier Publishing Co., and more recently of the Dayton Daily News, having retired this year. Mr. FASICK was born in Harrisburg, Pa., October 1, 1908, a son of Charles and Ida BITNER FASICK. He was a member of Tremont United Methodist Church. He was a charter member of Mailers Union Local 137 for 43 years. He also was a member of the Salvation Army advisory board for 12 years. Survivors include his wife, Mildred; two daughters, Mrs. Phil (Karen) SATTERLEE of Sidney, and Mrs. Richard (Sandra) DEAN of Cincinnati; four grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Marguerite BOYD of Port Royal, Pa., and two brothers, Charles and Chester FASICK, both of Springfield. The body was taken to Richards Memorial Home where friends may call from to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday. Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home. Contributions may be made to the Tremont United Methodist Church or to the Springfield Corps of the Salvation Army. Burial will be Glen Haven Memorial Gardens.

Joseph Leslie WOODRUFF, 90, of 2323 N. Limestone st., died at 11 p.m. Sunday in the home of his sister-in-law, Miss Irene MASSIE of 3219 E. High st., following four weeks of serious illness. He was born October 22, 1880 in Lawrence County, O., the son of Joseph and Margaret WOODRUFF and resided in Springfield the past 54 years. He was a retired employe of the Ohio Edison Co., a member of the Central united Methodist Church, a member of Clark lodge No 101 F&AM and a member of the Ohio Edison Power Club. Survivors include his wife, Mollie; one daughter, Mrs. Doris CLERICUS of Springfield; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. A son, Robert, preceded him in death January 30, 1968 in Springfield. His body was taken to the Richards Memorial Home for arrangements to be announced.

He was born April 27, 1888 in Chillicothe, O., and entered the home on April 13, 1970 sponsored by the American Union No. 1, F and A.M. of Ohio, of Marietta, O. Survivors include two sisters, Mrs. Cecil KELLEY of Charleston, W. Va., and Mrs. Elizabeth MCCUALSKI of Belpre, O. Wilbur Clarence GROOMES, 60, died at 8:55 p.m. Sunday in Rickly Memorial Hospital following a short illness. He had entered the Ohio Masonic Home April 6, 1970, sponsored by Charleston Lodge 702 of Lorain. Mr. GROOMES was born in Lorain May 15, 1911. There are no known relatives. His body was taken to the Woods-Allgier Funeral Home and will be returned Tuesday to Rickly auditorium for services. Burial will be in the Home cemetery.

Page 12. Hugh I. CARTER. Former Springfield Fireman, Hugh I. CARTER, 81 of 741 Stanton av., died at 4 a.m. Saturday in Mercy Medical Center. He was born May 16, 1890 and was a retired member of the Springfield Fire Division and was later employed as a fire inspector at Wright-Patterson AFB, retiring from there in 1962. He was a member also of the Springfield and Clark County Hosement Association and had been active in training horses all his life. He was preceded in death by his wife, Caroline A., on Sept. 2, 1971. His survivors include a sister-in-law, Mrs. Helen STONE of Springfield and several cousins. His body was taken to the Jackson, Lytle and Coffman Funeral Home. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday in the funeral home with the Rev,. David Hodden of the Oakland Presbyterian Church officiating. Burial will be in Ferncliff Cemetery.

"County Man Wounds Wife, Daughter Then Kills Himself" A Clark County man apparently shot and killed himself shortly after 1 pm Monday after he wounded both his wife and daughter, Clark County sheriff's deputies said. Dead is Albert G PENWELL of 1359 Bowman rd, who is believed to have killed himself as deputies were preparing to enter the Bowman rd home. Clark County Sheriff Harold Mills and several deputies then broke into the home through the front door. They then went to the second floor of the house but as they approached a bathroom door, PENWELL apparently shot and killed himself. His wife, Gisela, a daughter Marion, a junior at Northeastern, were taken to Community Hospital. A witness who asked not to be identified said PENWELL was first noticed as he rushed out of the house chasing his wife into the side yard. She was heard to scream, "Please help me," then a shot was fired. PENWELL reportedly is a computer programmer for Schaefer's Bakery, Inc. His wife is said to be a waitress at the Holiday Inn. The Clark County Directory listed the two as the parents of four children, Marion, Cynthia, Deborah and James. PENWELL was shot in the neck of head, deputies said. They said he used a small caliber weapon, possibly a .22 or .32 caliber. Hospital officials said the mother was in "fair" condition following admission, while the daughter's condition was listed as "good". According to a spokesman at Schaefer's Bakery, Inc, 508 W Main st, where the man had been employed this was his day off. He had been employed at the bakery since May 03, 1965 and was a computer operator. He was born July 27, 1936, according to records at bakery.

Mrs Nancy Jeanine Slusher, 36 of 710 Riverside dr., died at 3:30 p.m. Saturday in Community Hospital after eight months of serious illness. She worked for 13 years at the former Guardian Bank (now Security National) but had been a housewife for the past five years. She was a member of Good Shepard Lutheran Church and was a 1954 graduate of Springfield (South) High School. A life resident of Springfield, she was born Nov. 15, 1935, the daughter of Willard E. and Crystal Offutt Clark. Survivors include her husband, James A.; a daughter, Kristin Lynne at home; her parents; a brother, W. Ronald of Springfield; two nephews and a niece and her maternal grandmother, Mrs. Corrine Offutt. He was born in Springfield, March 26, 1896, the son of John and Susan DUDLEY BYERMAN and had resided in this community most of his life. He was a partner in the moving and storage company here for more than 50 years, retiring in 1971. While a resident of Springfield, he was a member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church and after moving to Florida became a member of St. Stephens Lutheran Church in Pinellas Park. He was a member of St. Andrews Lodge, F. and A.m., the Springfield Lions Club, the Last Man's Club and the American Legion. During World War I he serve with the US Army in France and Germany. Survivors, in addition to his daughter, include a granddaughter, Mrs. Teresa MOHR of Auburn, Ind.; a sister, Mrs. Hazel HORTON of Springfield; a brother, C. Ray BYERMAN of Pinellas Park, Fla.; two great grandsons, and a number of nieces and nephews. His wife, Clarice, preceded him in death July 29, 1971. She was born May 12, 1887, a daughter of Christina and C.L. SCHMIDT. Mrs MORRIS was a member of First Lutheran Church, a former member of Womans Town Club and an honorary member of the Research Club. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Robert (Martha M) KNAUSS of 315 Broadmoor Blvd, and Mrs. Ben L (Dora Christene) SUMMERFORD, Jr of Vienna, Va.; a brother, Dr. Walter SCHMIDT of Evanston, Ill, and three grandchildren, Jeffrey Scott, Rebecca, and Jamie SUMMERFORD. Another grandchild, Morris KNAUSS, preceded her in death on Nov. 5, 1970. Two of her sisters also died recently, Miss Edith SCHMIDT on Feb. 2 and Mrs. Pauline SCHMIDT GROSS last Sept. 19. The body was taken to the Littleton Funeral Home. There will be no calling hours. Private graveside services will be conducted Friday afternoon in Ferncliff Cemetery by Pastor Lawrence T. He was the last survivor of a family of 13 children. His body was taken to the Littleton Funeral Home for services at 10 a.m. Friday, with the Rev Ralph L Harmon, pastor of the Emory Chapel United Methodist church, in charge. Burial will be in Ferncliff Cemetery. Friends may call from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday.
