Joyce A. (WAKTERS) Stickle, 52, of Springfield, died at 7:14 a.m. Thursday, January 30, 1997 in Community Hospital. She was born November 9, 1944 in Dearborn, Michigan, the daughter of Everett Carter and Daisy (WILLIAMS) WALTERS. She was the day school administrator at Noah's Ark Day School for 22 years. Joyce was a member of the United Pentecostal Church, where she had served as church secretary and was active in the Ladies Auxiliary at the Church. Survivors include her father; two sons, Charles R. (Tammi) STICKLE, and Thomas D. STICKLE; a daughter, Tara E. Stickle; a granddaughter, Michelle STICKLE, all of Springfield; a brother, David C. (Pam) WALTERS; a sister, Sandra L. (Lee) BIRTH; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends. She was preceded in death by her mother five years ago; her husband, Ronald E. "Butch" STICKLE in August 1996; and an infant brother, Everett C. WALTERS, Jr. Friends may call Sunday from 3 - 6 p.m. in the Jackson Lytle & Ingling Williams Funeral Home, North Limestone Chapel. Page 17-Charles E. BOST, 85 OF Springfield, passed away Wednesday, February 5, 1997 at 7:44 a.m. in Community Hospital. He was born May 8, 1911, in Springfield, Ohio the son of Oliver and Florence (CONARD) BOST. He was a graduate of Oak Grove High School, Cedarville College and received a Master's Degree from Wittenberg University. His hobbies included model airplanes and railroads and woodworking. He also enjoyed operating his Ham radio under the call letters W8KJT. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the United States Army and Air Force. He was employed for 36 years by the Springfield City Schools, and served both as a Teacher and Principal. He was a lifetime member of the National Education Association, the Ohio Education Association and a member of the Clark County Retired Teachers Association. Mr. BOST was a member of the Kiwanis and a lifelong member of the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church where he had served in various capacities. He is survived by his daughter, Connie E. BOST of Springfield; a special friend, Maude Knoop of Springfield; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Robert and Phyllis INGLING of South Charleston; a cousin, Williams C. BROTHERS of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Grace J. (INGLING) BOST on July 7, 1976. BOTKIN, 102, of Hope House Manor, Springfield, died Wednesday February 5, 1997 at 5:30 p.m. He was born January 15, 1895 in Clark County, the son of Leedom (Doc) and Sally (BRUNER) BOTKIN. Mr. BOTKIN was a farmer all his life, and later, an egg producer. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Bellefontaine. Survivors include his son, Virgil of Bellefontaine; a grandson, Gerald; three great-granddaughters; two sisters-in-law, Rachel P. YOCOM of Cable, Ohio, and Ruth F. BOTKIN of North Hampton, Ohio; a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Maud (PRINCE) BOTKIN in February 1975; four brothers, Ralph, Wendell, Paul and Elden; and two sisters Maye HECK and Gladys HOPKINS. There will be no visitation. Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday in Highlands Memorial Garden, West Liberty, with Rev. Jeff Bartlett officiating. He was born in Springfield, Ohio July 12, 1918, the son of, Frank J. and Katharine (MARTIN) GRAEBER. He retired in 1995 after 25 years of service with the Anitec Image Corporation, a division of International Paper Company. Prior to that time, he was employed as a photographer for the Crowell-Collier publishing company for a num-ber of years. He was a World War II veteran having served eight and a half years United States Air Force. He later served with the 160th Air National Guard Unit for a number of years. Survi-vors include his wife of 56 years, Angela M. (SIMONS); three children, Ada M. SIMONS, Lawrence M. GRAEBER, James GRAEBER; one grandson, Michael A. VOURLAS, all of California; two sisters, M. She held an Ele-mentary School Life Certificate since 1930; was a former Latin and English teacher at Hayward Junior High, and Springfield South High Schools; was employed by Springfield Public Schools for over 26 years. She was a member of the Spring-field Women's Town Club. She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, William C. LAMBERT; her husband of 46 years, Harry P. GATES; and son, William L. GATES. He was a veteran of the Army Air Force serving from 1942 until 1945 in New Guinea and Port Moresby and received the Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon, two Overseas Service bars and one Bronze Battle Star. Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Shirley and Dave BENDER of Hurricane, West Virginia, two grandsons, Michael (Liz) BENDER and Matthew BENDER of Phoenix, Arizona. Sophia PAVLATOS, died Wednesday, May 14, in her 104th year. Born Sophia DANALATOU on the Greek island of Cephalonia in 1892, she left her village home of Angona to come to the United States in December 1915. Upon arrival she married Basil PAVLATOS, who had immigrated a few years earlier. In Springfield Mr. Pavlatos had a partnership in shoe repair store. Mrs. Pavlatos raised four children through the difficult Depression years. She deeply valued education, though she did not, herself complete elementary school. She learned English, involved herself in the surrounding community, and guided her daughter and three sons through their schooling, which they all completed with advanced college degrees. She was selected Ohio's Mother of the Year in 1954 "for achieving a high standard of maternal understanding." The selection committee cited her "strong spiritual quality, community activity, and deep family affection." In 1992 the Greek Orthodox Church of the Assumption in Springfield honored her or the occasion of her 100th birthday praising her strength of will and character. Letters of congratulations arrived from the President of the United States, Governor of Ohio, Greek Orthodox Bishop of the Diocese, and other dignitaries. Friends and relatives remembered her home on North Street, with its award-winning garden and warm kitchen that never closed a door on friendly face. She was a member of the Greek Orthodox Church Assumption Of The Blessed Virgin Mary, and Philoptochos Society.
