Goldie M. (Burkepile) Ross, 96, formerly of Rolling Terrace Road died Wednesday, February 15, 1989 at 10:45 p.m. in Mercy Medical Center following an extended illness. She was born September 3, 1892 in Marysville, Ohio the daughter of Daniel and Jenny Belle (RHINEHART) COFFELT. She was employed as a vendor of Salt Water Taffy at Indian Lake for many years and was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. Survivors include a daughter, Thelma ROSS of New Carlisle; two sons, Ivan of St. Joseph, Michigan, and William (Bill) BURKEPILE of Hendersonville, Tennessee; a sister, Ruth SHERIDAN of Columbus, Ohio; and eleven grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Daniel BURKEPILE, in 1941; and her second husband, Arvell ROSS, in 1981; a son, Floyd; one sister; and one brother. She was born, August 26, 1893 in Springfield, Ohio the daughter of George and Kate M. (COLEMAN) NIUFFER. She was a retired librarian from Wittenberg University. She was a member of Covenant Presbyterian Church. Survivors include one cousin, Mrs. Robert McDONALD, Urbana; special friends, Mr. and Mrs. Robert and Mildred REMSBERG, Springfield. Graveside services will be held at ll a.m., Friday in Ferncliff Cemetery with Rev. Thomas Stout of Covenant Presbyterian Church officiating. Albert L. Corle, 75, of Springfield, died Wednesday, February 1, 1989 in Mercy Medical Center at 10 p.m. He was born March 26, 1913 in Canton, Ohio, the son of Frank and Marie CORLE. Mr. CORLE was a pressman for Crowell Collier Publishing Company and retired from Alco-Gravure Company in Memphis, Tennessee. He was also active in several gold leagues in the Springfield area. He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Ronald and Marilyn CORLE; a brother, Robert DERR of Springfield; a brother-in-law, Frank TOOMEY of South Charleston; a cousin, Dr. Sue MILLER of Springfield; four grandchildren, Pam and Richard BENNETT, Douglas, Penny and Polly CORLE; three great-grandchildren, Allison, Stephanie and Ricky BENNETT; several nieces and nephews. �Charles Marvin Newell, 63, of 580 S. Bird Road died Friday, February 3, 1989 in the Hospital of Wright Patterson Air Force Base following failing health for the last six months. He was born November 20, 1925 in Springfield the son of Elijah F. and Myrtie M. (RIFFLE) NEWELL. He was graduate of Plattsburg High School and the Eagles, Aries #397. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Air Force, serving in the Korean War and as a maintenance repairmen before his retirement. He also was employed a service man with the Krazy Cat Game Room. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law; Thea and Dale HANSON of Albuqueque, New Mexico. Two grandchildren, Aletha and Melissa HANSON and his mother, Myrtie NEWELL. Also three sisters; Verna VANHORN of South Vienna, Freida De JONG of Springfield and Ruby McCALL of Lucasville, Ohio. One brother William NEWELL of Springfield. He had retired in 1981 after serving as Chief Petty Officer in the United States Navy, serving twenty years active duty and ten years in the reserve. He was a veteran of both the Korean and Vietnam conflicts. He recently was employed for the past seven years for the Town House Motor Lodge. He was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1031 and the American Legion Post. George Forrest ZIRKLE, 92, of Springfield, died at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, February 5, 1989 in Mercy Medical Center following several months illness. He was born in Springfield, Ohio, August 25, 1896 the son of Forrest and Effie (HUFFMAN) ZIRKLE. He had lived in Springfield all his life. He was the founder and former owner of ZIRKLE Pattern Works, retiring in 1970. He was also a school teacher at South High School for 10 years. George was widely known as a maker of Grandfather Clocks and as a clock repairman. Photography and woodworking were also great hobbies of his. He served in the Untied States Army during World War I. He was a member of the First United Church of Christ, a life member of the Kiwanis Club and was one of four remaining members of the Last Mans Club. His masonic affiliations include, St. Andrews Lodge, Number 619 F,and A. M. of which he was a past master, Springfield Chapter Number 48 Royal Arch Masons, Springfield Council Number 17 Royal Select Masons, Palestine Commandery Number 33 Knights Templar, Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, Antioch Temple Shrine of Dayton, Springfield Shrine Club. He is survived by one niece and nephew. He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Irene (WOOSLEY) ZIRKLE, on February 28, 1982; they were married on June 9, 1920 and celebrated their 61st anniversary in 1981. He was also preceded in death by a sister Glenna McCAIN; a brother, Ralph Edward ZIRKLE who was a pianist and teacher in Springfield for 50 years. John D. Kuhns, 89, formerly of 2133 Oak Knoll Drive and presently of Oakwood Village died 7:50 a.m. Sunday, February 5, 1989 in Community Hospital after a brief illness. He was born September 30, 1899, in Dayton, Ohio, the son of William Jesse and Martha C. (SCHEFFEL) KUHNS. He was former owner of Kuhns Concrete Company. He was a member of First Lutheran Church for over 50 years and was a graduate of Wittenberg University in 1921 where he was a cheerleader. He was a member of the Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity and received the prestigious 1914 Alumni Award. He later served on the Wittenberg Board of Directors and was the second recipient of the Medal of Honor in 1976. He was also a graduate of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Architectural Engineering and received a membership in the Tau Beta Pi Honorary Scholarship Fraternity. He was one of the earliest radio broadcasters for W.B.Z in Boston. He was a member of the Professional Society of Engineers and was a member of H. S. Kissell Number 674 F. & A. M. of which he served as Past Master, other Masonic orders include Shawnee Chapter Number 237 R.A.M., Springfield Council Number 17 R. & S.M. and Palestine Commandery Number 33 Knights Templar of which he served as Past Commander. He was also a member of the Valley of Dayton Scottish Rite and was given the honor of becoming a 33rd Degree Mason. He served on the Board of Directors of Community Hospital, Board of Directors of the Springfield Cemetery Association which operates Ferncliff Cemetery, Board of Directors of the Springfield A.A.A. He was a member of the Springfield Rotary Club, Springfield Country Club of which he served as Past President of the Board of Directors, Van Dyke Club, University Club, Sons of American Revolution George Rogers Clark Chapter, and the Young Mens Literary Club. He also served on Board of Directors of the First National Bank. He is survived by his wife Margaret (TUSTISON) to whom he was married in 1928; two daughters and sons-in-law, Patricia Ann and Ralph McCORMICK, of Indianapolis, Indiana, and Nancy E. and Pastor Hobert JOHNSON, of Lakewood, Ohio; one brother, Richard, of Bayfield, Wisconsin; and six grandchildren. Paris "Jerry" Keaton, 62, of 1841 North Belmont Avenue, died in Community Hospital at 2:52 a.m. Tuesday, February 7, 1989 following three weeks illness. He was born June 12, 1926 in Circleville, Ohio the son of Paris J. and Thelma (WILSON) KEATON and had been a Springfield resident for over 30 years. Mr. KEATON served in the United States Army for 22 years and retired from Cooper Energy Service following 22 years service and was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Number 397 and VFW Post 1031. He is survived by his girlfriend, Avonelle May of Springfield; his nephew, Ronald KEATON of Dayton; and several other nieces and nephews. He was a member of Abiding Christ Lutheran Church in Fairborn, and a former member of Faith Lutheran Church in Springfield, where he was a Sunday School teacher for the Junior Boys and a member of the Church Council. He also belonged to the Fairborn National Association Retired Federal Employees and the Dayton Railway Historical Society. At the age of 16, he was the Countywide Chairman for the Teen Age Program (T.A.P.) for the Clark County National Foundation of the March of Dimes for Fight Against Birth Defects. Maxie had his own band called "Max NAVE and the Starlite Express". He is survived by his wife, Lisa Annette (NOLAN) NAVE; a daughter Melissa Ann NAVE; his mother, Marianne NAVE of Springfield; his father and step-mother, Max E. and Helen NAVE of Springfield; one brother, Douglas Eugene NAVE of California, one step-sister, Karen MOUNT of Springfield; two grandmothers, Hazel G. Survivors include three sons, Kyle and his wife Ruth, Eugene and his wife Mary, Wayne and his wife Helen, all of Springfield; 10 grandchildren; several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his first wife Eleanor and by his second wife Esther (EVILSIZOR) NEVIUS ; also two sisters, Katherine CRABILL and Esther GROSSMAN , and a brother David. (McCLURE) BUTLER. Mr. BUTLER was a retired employee of the Robbins and Myers Company and was a member of the Church of Jesus where he was senior deacon and also active in other church organizations. He is survived by four devoted sons, Rev. Louis D. BUTLER of Dayton, Charles LeRoy Russell BUTLER of Dayton, James Michael BUTLER of Suitland, Maryland, and John C. BUTLER of Springfield; seven devoted daughters, Carol J. HOLT of Dayton, Frances E. LYTLE of Forestville, Maryland, Linda L. BLACKSHEAR of Dayton, Betty L. COX of Toledo, Gladys A. RAGLAND and Carmen A. IRVIN both of Springfield, Lorna K. HOLT of Dayton; sister in law and husband, Gladys and Elder John E. JORDAN of Springfield; special niece Delores WELLS of Springfield; a number of other nieces and nephews; 42 grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren. He was born in the Comanche Indiana Territory (Oklahoma) in 1903. Attended the Oklahoma University, Ohio State University, and graduated from Oklahoma State. He was a graduate of Stonier Graduate School of Banking at Rutgers University. Mr. PRUITT was a member of the Lancaster Country Club, Symposiarchs, Lancaster Rotary Club, and Elks Lodge. He was a member of the Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity, First United Methodist Church. Mr. PRUITT was active in many community affairs. (Ginger) NEUHARDT and David W. (Katie) NEUHARDT; three grandchildren, Jessica, Joshua, and Benjamin; her father, Roger L. WHITTINGTON; and a sister, Mrs. Robert (Carolyn) BRADLEY.
