Annual Commencement Program of the Springfield
Township Public Schools in Springfield, Ohio
Submitted by: Sheri Seitz-Burkhardt, July 2002
The 1898 Springfield Township Graduation ceremony was held at the Clark County Court House on Wednesday, May 25, 1898. Here is some additional information on the schools. All of the schools were either one or two-room buildings. Students in grades 1-12 were taught in the same classroom. The teacher individualized the lessons to the grade level of the students. The normal amount in attendance for each building would be 30 to 40 students. Those 30 to 40 students made up the entire school. That is the reason for such a small amount of graduating students for any particular year. Students attending the various schools would join together for graduation ceremonies each year.
