WILL OF JAMES HATFIELD SPRINGFIELD TOWNSHIP CLARKCOUNTY DECEASED
STATE OF OHIO CLARK COUNTY PROBATE COURT.

Be it remembered that onthe 5th day of November A.D. 1855, a paper writing, purporting to be the lastwill and testament of James Hatfield late of said county deceased was producedbefore said Court for probate which is in the words and figures following towit:

In the name of God, Amen,I James Hatfield of the county of Clark and State of Ohio being of sound mindand memory, do make and this my last will and testament.

First, whereas my son,Stephen K. Hatfield and daughter Nancy King, wife of Wm King and have eachreceived five hundred dollars in consideration of which I give and bequeath toeach of my other children the following amount namely Sarah Ann Hatfield twohundred dollars and Melind Hatfield Hatfield five hundred dollars and MargaretJudy wife of Robert M. Judy three hundred and ninety dollars and NathanielHatfield five hundred dollars and July Ann Hatfield five hundred dollars andLavina M. Hatfield five hundred dollars and James Hatfield five hundreddollars, and Emily Hatfield five hundred dollars and Isaac K. Hatfield fivehundred dollars - The minor children namely Nathaniel, July Ann, Lavina M.,James, Emily, and Isaac K. Hatfield who have not receive a common education toreceive their support and such education at the expense of the estate.

I also nominate my beloved wife Mary Hatfield to be guardian for my son Isaac K. Hatfield.

I also bequeath to mybeloved wife five hundred dollars provided that my son Isaac K. should live theamount that is not expended at her death to come to him and if Isaac K.Hatfield should not live the unexpended part of the above named five hundreddollars to go to Edward Melatih & Emmaline Kitchen.

To Elizabeth A. Laird,Abigail C. Hatfield, Mary Jane, Ann Eliza, Sarah, Edward, Melatiah and EmmalineKitchen I give each ???? dollars with which to buy a Bible, that they remembertheir God and me. All the rest andresidue of my estate to be divided equally between my children, exceptNathaniel, who shall have two hundred dollars more than the others on final settlement.

I do nominate and appoint my son Stephen K. Hatfield to be the sole executor of this my last will andtestament.

In testimony where of, I Ihere unto set my hand and seal, and publish and decree this to be my last willand testament in presence of the witnesses named below this twenty seventh dayof October, in the year our Lord, one thousand eight hundred and fifty five.

Be if further understoodthat on or about the first of April last Wm King received of me four hundreddollars as borrowed money at ten percent interest for which he failed to givehis note as promised. I therefore authorize and empower my executor to collectsaid sum for distribution, as before mentioned. Signed - James Hatfield

Signed, sealed, declaredand published by the said James Hatfield as and for his last will andtestament, in presence of us, who at his request and in his presence, and inpresence of each other, have subscribed our names as witnesses hereto. And on the said 5th day of November A.D. 1855, the testimony of said subscribing witness was taken,reduced to writing, subscribed by said witnesses and filed, which testimony isin the words and figures following to wit:

State of Ohio, Clarkcounty, Court of Probate November 5th 1855. Be it remembered that on this day personally appeared before the Judgeof said court John Garlough, Samuel F. Stewart and James T. Hatfield subscribing witnesses to the last will and testament of James Hatfield late of said county deceased, who being of lawful age and duly sworn, depose and say that they werepresent at the execution of said will; that they saw the testator sign andheard him acknowledge the same as his last will and testament, and that at the time of the execution thereof, said testator was of full age, of sound and ????mind and memory, and not under any restraint; and that they signed the same as witnesses, in the presence of said testator, and at his request.
